Pitchers : 17
LH Mavis Graves - 22 years old - drafted in 6th round of the 2022 draft from Eastside HS, Taylors, SC - finished 2025 on the IL - has now worked his way back to active status - threw his first spring game work in the breakout contest - He’s a big fella at 6’6” with a competitive approach and has a great amount of upside. Has a good feel for his changeup which has a decent speed differential from his four seamer. He’s made steady progress during his three full seasons in the program with a projectable path to the show.
RH Sam Highfill - 25 years old - signed as non drafted free agent 7/29/25 - NC State University - began last year with Clearwater. Promoted to Jersey Shore on 7/29. Overall amassed 106 IP in his first pro season in 24 games with a 4.50 ERA. Sam had a solid initial full pro season - reliable innings eater. Four seam fastball in the 91-95 mph range, slider, sinker, change-up, curve and cutter. Has a great competitive spirit who knows how to pitch. Will keep his team in games with a chance to win.
RH Luke Gabrysh - 22 years old - drafted in 15th round of the 2024 draft from St Joseph’s University, PA - he’s had a very solid set of camps dating back to Fall High Performance Camp thru Minor League Spring Training - has added muscle which has increased velocity - his four seam fastball and sinker both already sat consistently at 92-95 mph. He’s a bulldog type competitor who gets after it, is fun to watch.
RH Aaron Combs - 24 years old - acquired in trade with White Sox 1/1/25 for LHP Tyler Gilbert - He was Chicago’s 8th round draft selection in the 2024 draft from the University of Tennessee. Aaron grew up in Sarasota, Florida and played High School baseball at two prestigious programs, the Inspiration Academy and IMG. He transferred to IMG for his senior year. In his last appearance at Tennessee he recorded the final out to clinch the 2024 NCAA championship. He throws from a slightly lower than 3/4 arm slot and generally sits in the 91-94 mph range with his fastball - secondaries are a slider, change-up, cutter and curve. Has a great outlook and personality - a winner’s attitude who’s been part of multiple successful teams.
RH Ryan Dromboski - 22 years old - signed as un-drafted free agent - 8/1/24 - University of Pennsylvania - began last year with the Clearwater Threshers - made 17 appearances (nine starts) posting a strong 2.63 ERA in 54.2 IP. Was promoted to Jersey Shore on 8/6. Overall had a 9-6 record with a 2.69 ERA in 22 games (13 starts) totaling 80.1 IP. Very good initial pro season. Ryan attended North Burlington County High School in Columbus, NJ where he played both baseball and soccer. He’s a very pleasant and energetic young man, the excitement and enthusiasm to become a Phillie was evident in his voice when we first spoke shortly after he first arrived at the Clearwater Complex. His fastball is generally in the 90-94 mph range, also throws a sinker, slider, curve, change up and cutter. He has shown that he will throw each pitch in any count with the slider as his go to pitch. Knows how to pitch and get batters out.
RH Reese Dutton - 24 years old - signed as an un-drafted free agent - 7/26/24 - University of Kansas - began last year with the Clearwater Threshers - appeared in 11 games (four starts) pitching 39.2 innings. Was promoted to Jersey Shore on 6/5. Overall he pitched 105 innings in his first full pro season with a 4.03 ERA. Reese is an innings eater and strike thrower who can pitch as either a starter or bulk reliever - went five or more innings in eleven of his twenty four outings and four or four plus frames in another six games. He is a sinker ball pitcher (88 to 91 mph - touches 93) with a slider, change-up, cutter and curve. Uses his pitch-ability to get outs. He is from Kenosha, Wisconsin - originally attended Heartland Community College and then USC Upstate - transferred to Kansas for his final collegiate season where he led the team in innings pitched.
RH Gabriel Barbosa - 24 years old - acquired in the minor league Rule 5 draft 12/11/24 from the Yankees - was originally signed by the Rockies on 7/2/18 from Bastos, Brazil. The Yankees selected him in the minor league Rule 5 draft on 12/11/23 and he pitched all of 2024 for their Low A affiliate in Tampa. Four Seam fastball in the 89-92 range, slider, change-up, curve, sinker and cutter. Uses mix and pitch-ability to get batters out. He re-signed with the Phillies in the off-season foregoing minor league free agency.
RH Brandon Beckel - 24 years old - drafted in 12th round of the 2023 draft from Texas Tech - Has a sharp darting slider that he keeps down in the zone, a pitch that’s heavy and is a ground ball maker. Decent fastball - 92-94 mph that has been up to 95. Mostly used in a multi inning role - it’s how he was used in college as well. He set new career marks for IP, K’s and ERA last season - he’s intriguing - especially the slider and his ability to generally throw strikes - made more quality pitches this summer as well.
LH Juan Amarante -21 years old - signed as international free agent 1/28/22 - Valencia, Venezuela - last season he posted an overall ERA of 4.34 with the FCL Phillies & Clearwater - 18 games - 17 starts - 76.2 IP (career high). Was promoted to Clearwater on 6/5/25 - made 13 appearances (12 starts) with the Threshers - 54.2 IP.
He features a sinker and four seamer (90 to 93 mph), change-up, slider and big spin curve. Competes well, generally throws strikes and eats innings. Pitches predominantly off his fastballs (sinker primarily and four seamer secondary) but when he incorporates either the changeup or slider effectively into the mix he can shut down opponents. Not necessarily a strikeout pitcher but one has strong pitch-ability skills.
RH Luis Avila - 22 years old - signed as international free agent 2/23/23 - Turmero, Venezuela - He features a 95 to 99 mph four seam fastball, slider, change up (splitter) and cutter but predominantly uses his fastball and slider. Luis has the ability to shut down the opposition. The coaching staff believes his splitter could be a real weapon and has encouraged him to use it more.
RH Ryan Degges - 23 years old - drafted in 17th round of the 2024 draft from UNC Charlotte - made 22 appearances (18 starts) for Clearwater in 2025 posting a 3.89 ERA in 81 IP. Ryan is from Knoxville, Tennessee and graduated from the Christian Academy of Knoxville HS. His fastball is in the 92-96 mph range which he couples with a sinker, slider, change-up, cutter and curve. He was a reliever in college so starting was a return endeavor for him to his high school days - he handled it very well. The fastball plays up with ride, it’s linked to his release point which is somewhat unique. The slider has sweeper action. When he throws strikes consistently he’s difficult to square up - the key moving forward will becoming more adept at doing so.
RH Jake Eddington - 24 years old - drafted in 7th round of the 2023 draft from Missouri State - began last year with Clearwater and pitched in 13 games (27.2 IP) Was promoted to Jersey Shore on 6/5 - appeared in 19 games (29 IP). He features a four seam fastball (92-95 mph - touches 96), slider, change-up, curve and cutter. Generally pitches out of the bullpen as a multi-inning reliever - primarily two innings - on occasion three innings (five times). Is from Missouri where he was a two time all-state selection in baseball. Was a starter in college - very nice young man who always says hello every time I see him.
RH Titan Kennedy-Hayes - 24 years old - drafted - 11th round of the 2024 draft from Austin Peay State - features a four seam fastball that sits 95 to 98 mph and often touches 100 mph, a slider, sinker (95-99 mph) and cutter. Had a very solid spring camp, quality strikes with triple digits velocity. Began last season with Clearwater - 30 appearances (35.1 IP) - promoted to Jersey Shore 8/4 - appeared in 10 games (10.1 IP). He is from Enid, Oklahoma and graduated from Enid High School - pitched for Cowley College, Cisco College and San Jacinto College before pitching one season for Austin Peay.
RH Jose Pena - 22 years old - drafted in 6th round of the 2021 draft from Tampa Prep HS, FL - began last year in Clearwater - 20 appearances (25.1 IP) posting a 0.71 ERA. Promoted to Jersey Shore on 6/24 - made 14 appearances (15.2 IP). Overall appeared in 34 games (41 IP) with a 1.54 ERA. Pitched this off-season in Puerto Rico and had a very good Spring Training camp. I first met Jose when he was pitching on the backfields in the FCL - Is often used in inherited runners situations and more often than not leaves those runners stranded. He has a power curve/slider that is a swing and miss pitch - it is an out maker that compliments a 92-96 mph fastball. He’s a highly energetic young man who wears his emotions on his sleeve. He not only threw strikes this past season but quality ones and handled the pressures of back end game situations. Great to see him developing the way that he has.
RH Adilson Peralta - 22 years old - signed international free agent 11/16/21 - Moca, Dominican Republic - last season at Clearwater appeared in 28 games (51.1 IP) recording a 4-1 record with a 3.68 ERA. He showed a fastball (92-95 mph),slider and change-up as deliveries. Was a starter in the Dominican Summer League his first two seasons - now pitches in a bulk relief role - went two or more innings in 15 of his appearances - big frame, lean build at 6’4” - decent velocity and movement - solid mechanics.
RH Danyony Pulido - 23 years old - signed international free agent 2/2/21 - Caracas, Venezuela - had a great Spring Training Camp winning the Larry Rojas Award. He is a power arm that excelled this past season when moved to the bullpen - has reached triple digits with his four seam fastball - generally in the 94 to 98 mph range with a slider as primary secondary pitch - also has a curve, change-up and an infrequently used cutter. He pitched in both the Arizona Fall League and for the Adelaide Giants this off-season in the Australian Baseball League. Should be one of primary back end of the bullpen options for the BlueClaws.
RH Guissepe Velasquez - 22 years old - signed international free agent 7/2/19 - Porlamar, Venezuela - returned to game action last year on 6/19 with the FCL Phillies after almost two years of rehab work coming back from Tommy John surgery. Made five appearances (two starts) totaling 16.2 IP. Promoted to Clearwater on 6/26 - made eight appearances (seven starts) totaling 33.2 IP. Overall threw 52.1 innings over 14 appearances (he pitched two scoreless innings in a FSL playoff game on 9/11). Pitched for the Adelaide Giants in the off season Australia Winter League. He’s a true “pitch-ability” pitcher who changes speeds, hits locations and uses mix to force soft contact from hitters. Is a welcoming young man who’s always greeted me with a fist bump and smile. The arsenal includes a four seam fastball (90 to 93 mph), a tumbling curve ball, changeup and sinker. When he’s at his best he can carve up opposing hitters with mix, deception and location - it’s fun to watch.
Catchers : 3
Kodey Shojinaga - 23 years old - drafted in 6th round of the 2024 draft from Kansas University - he’s from Honolulu, Hawaii and graduated from Mid-Pacific Institute HS. Played two seasons at Kansas primarily as a second baseman while also seeing time at first and third. He was recruited as a catcher but converted to an infielder to get his bat in the everyday lineup as Kansas had a starting catcher already. He’s known for his willingness to adapt to team needs, maturity and winning attitude. In his first full pro season that adaptability shined thru as he split time between catching and first base. Has good bat to ball skills and shows patience at the plate - walked (14%) nearly as much as he struck out (15%) in his plate appearances.
Luke Davis - 23 years old - signed as un-drafted free agent - 7/23/24 - Long Beach CC, California - had a very good Spring Camp carrying over from Mini Camp - was a patient hitter at the dish last season and drew 70 walks posting a .381 on base percentage in 113 plate appearances - this spring he’s been more aggressive and has delivered in scrimmages and games with extra base hits including a long home run on Roberts Field.
Luis Caicuto - 23 years old - acquired in minor league rule 5 draft - 12/6/23 - RH hitter - Luis was originally signed by the Arizona Diamondbacks on 7/2/19 from Lecheria, Venezuela. He’s a spark plug with good defensive skills and loves the game of baseball. In July he told me “It’s the sport I love and enjoy it from the beginning of the day until it ends, sharing with my teammates, learning new things every day is the most fun of all this.” Every occasion I’ve had to speak with him he’s always been upbeat. Injuries and circumstances have hindered his chances to play but when he’s been able to get some consistent playing time he has performed well. He’s a young man who has the leadership qualities required to play the catching position.
Infielders : 6
Nick Biddison - 25 years old - acquired in trade with Dodgers 6/25/25 - was the 2022 4th round draft pick of the Los Angeles Dodgers out of Virginia Tech. He’s from Glen Allen, Virginia and graduated from St. Christopher’s HS. The Phillies acquired him in a cash transaction. He’s a high energy guy who is both willing and capable of playing any position on the field. Noted for having an above average arm and running speed. Had two shoulder surgeries in his amateur career. His versatility is a valued asset.
Jose Colmenares - 23 years old (24 on 4/3/26) - signed as free agent - 8/15/25 -was released by the Yankees on 8/6 and signed a two year contract with the Phillies. He was originally signed by the Yankees on 7/2/18 from Cerro La Guacara, Venezuela. He has played second, short and third base in his minor league career - decent fielder, a take charge presence in the infield. Played winter ball this offseason for Águilas del Zulia in the Venezuelan Winter League and Adelaide in the Australian Baseball League. Will likely get opportunities to play regularly at shortstop for Jersey Shore.
Brady Day - 24 years old - drafted in 10th round of the 2024 draft from Kansas State - He’s from Hempstead, New Hampshire and graduated from Pinkerton Academy HS. Played three seasons at Kansas State. He was previously drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 12th round of the 2023 draft. He’s got good bat to ball skills and is a difficult hitter to strike out. A patient hitter that will take his walks. Has a strong arm and decent range at third base - was primarily a second baseman in college. When I’ve watched him play he shows as steady, smart and disciplined - has the traits of a well schooled ball player. Bat is quick and he consistently makes good contact.
Trent Farquhar - 25 years old - signed as an un-drafted free agent - 7/19/23 - Michigan State - 2025 was an injury riddled season after a solid 2024 year when he played well at three levels despite missing time with a broken hamate bone. He’s from Highland, Michigan and graduated from Lakeland High School. Initially played at Bowling Green University before transferring to Michigan State where he earned distinguished scholar honors. Works counts and is normally an on-base machine - .416 OBP in 750 college plate appearances and a .433 OBP in 2024. Is the cousin of fellow Phillies organization mate RHP Micah Ottenbreit. A smart, heady ball player who does things the right way, great spirit and dedication. His defensive versatility coupled with his ability to get on base and steal bags are his tickets upwards.
Raider Tello - 25 years old - signed as an un-drafted free agent - 7/23/24 - University of Iowa - A smart, heady player who posts everyday and offers versatility with good defense at multiple positions. He’s from El Monte, California and graduated from Arcadia HS. Began his collegiate career at Pasadena City College. Transferred to Iowa and played two seasons there. When I’ve watched Raider play I’ve always seen a professional approach and effort, he gives it all he has - a good player.
Brock Vradenburg - 24 years old - signed as a minor league free agent - 8/6/25 - was the Miami Marlins 3rd round draft choice in the 2023 draft from Michigan State. Released 8/4/25. He’s from Pasadena, California and graduated from Maranatha HS. Played three seasons at Michigan State - a collegiate teammate of fellow Phillies minor leaguer Trent Farquhar. Brock is a big fella at 6’7” who was noted as a gap to gap hitter in college. Showed pull side power in spring training camp this year.
Outfielders : 4
Devin Saltiban - 21 years old - drafted in 3rd round of the 2023 draft from Hilo HS, Hilo, Hawaii - had a strong spring training camp after playing this off season in the Australian Baseball League for the league champion Adelaide Giants - now converted to being a full time outfielder - very quick bat which has been on display all spring - power is there as well - can drive the baseball - now entering his third pro season the path forward and upward is unleashing the power bat and providing solid defense.
John Spikerman - 23 years old - drafted in 3rd round of the 2024 draft from the University of Oklahoma - John had a good ST camp - drove the ball with authority. The young man battled thru injuries last season which limited him to just 62 games of play - now looks healthy and ready to go - has versatility defensively, able to play all three outfield positions well.
Joel Dragoo - 23 years old - drafted in 7th round of the 2024 draft from Presbyterian College - He is from Beckville, Texas and graduated from Northside Christian Academy. That power has come thru in spots as a pro. Has a solid build at 6’2” and athleticism, good speed and quickness. Is noted as a hard worker.
Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
