3/31/23 : Minor League Round Up


International League ( AAA ) -  Lehigh Valley 8 (1-0) Rochester 7 (0-1) - 10 innings


Rochester, NY - Innovative Field


Summary :


Game was played in a light mist with the temperature hovering in the low 40’s 🥶 - today was the earliest home opener in Rochester team history.


Rochester scored the first run of the game in the second inning, Stone Garrett singled and scored on a triple by Travis Blankenhorn.  Yadiel Hernandez doubled to score Blankenhorn. Onix Vega singled to score Hernandez.


John Hicks doubled on a line drive over the center fielder’s head in the fifth inning and later scored on a single sliced down the left field line by Simon Muzziotti.  Scott Kingery blasted a 413 foot home run over the left field bleachers to knot the game at three apiece.


Esteban Quiroz singled in the seventh inning and scored on a triple to the right center field gap by Simon Muzziotti.  Muzziotti scored on an errant throw by Rochester’s second baseman.


Rochester scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh on an error, three infield singles, a couple wild pitches and a single to left field by Stone Garrett.


Aramis Garcia tied the game at six each with a 435 foot home run to left field to lead off the ninth inning.


Vimael Machin led off the 10th inning with a home run to right field to plate the placed runner ahead of him.


Travis Blankenhorn singled for Rochester in the bottom of the tenth to score the placed runner.

Simon Muzziotti had three hits ( two singles and a triple ) and a walk.  Vimael Machin hit a double and home run. John Hicks had two hits ( single & double ).  Scott Kingery hit a two run home run.  Aramis Garcia homered.  Jhailyn Ortiz doubled.

Catcher Aramis Garcia threw out two would be base stealers, one at second and the other at third base.  Left fielder Simon Muzziotti made a sliding catch to end the seventh inning, he made a diving catch in the 10th inning to rob former Phillie Wilson Garcia of an extra base hit.

Side Bullpens :


Eleven pitchers threw side bullpen sessions on the seven mounds in front of the David Montgomery Training Center, pitchers who threw today - Adam Leverett, Braeden Fausnaught, Jonathan Petit, Jon Duplantier, Braden Zarbnisky, Estibenzon Jimenez, Jace Vines, Matt Russell, Nick Nelson, Tristan Garnett and Albertus Barber


Live Bullpen :


Louis Head threw on Roberts Field.


Intra-Squad Games


In a next to last day tuneup before breaking camp two squads played eight innings on Roberts Field while two others played five innings on Ashburn Field.


Roberts Field :


RH Tyler Phillips, RH Mick Abel and LH Josh Hendrickson each pitched four innings.  RH Gunner Mayer pitched two innings and LH Sam Aldegheri pitched three innings.  Abel and Hendrickson struck out six batters apiece.


Wilfredo Flores went three  for five, Matt Alifano was two for four.  Ryan Leitch hit two home runs, Garrett Whitley and Cole Moore each homered.


Ashburn Field :


RH Alex McFarlane ( three innings ) RH Enrique Segura ( two innings ), RH Jean Cabrera ( three innings ) and RH Victor Lopez ( two innings )  each pitched in the five inning scrimmage.  McFarlane struck out six batters.


Nick Podkul homered for the only run in the contest.


Rehab in Clearwater  :


The Phillies placed pitchers Nick Nelson, Ranger Suarez, Christopher Sanchez and Noah Song on the major league 15 day injured list and catcher Rafael Marchan as well as first baseman Rhys Hoskins on the 60 day IL.  All but Hoskins are currently in Clearwater working at the Complex with the rehab team.
