3/5/24 : Today in Spring Training - Clearwater

Minor League Camp :

On field hitting, fielding and pitching this morning into early afternoon.  Seven pitchers (Konnor Ash, Andrew Baker, Robinson Pina, Mavis Graves, Malik Binns, Mitch Neunborn and Chase Hopewell) threw side bullpens on the seven mounds.  Estibenzon Jimenez and Matt Osterberg threw two inning up-down live BP sessions and Jaydenn Estanista threw a one inning live BP.  Hitters for live BP included Raylin Heredia, Avery Owusu-Asiedu, Devin Saltiban, Aidan Miller, Nikau Pouaka-Grego and Tjayy Walton.

I had a very well regarded and award winning scout tell me one day that anyone who thinks that they can project what a player will become based on one performance whether it be practice or game is kidding themselves.  He also said that no scout can really project what a player might become even if watching multiple performances but rather they can only assess the talent - whether the potential is there to climb the ladder, not whether they will or not.  I get tickled when folks state that a player can’t become something and even more so when they’ve likely never seen them in person or up close - just sayin - everyone has an opinion but no one has a crystal ball 🤪.

Grapefruit League Game Twelve :

Orioles 3 Phillies 2

Baltimore scored a run in the first inning on a double by Jackson Holliday and an RBI single by Colton Cowser.   The Phillies tied the score in the fourth inning as JT Realmuto doubled and scored on an RBI single by Jake Cave.

The Orioles scored a run in the sixth on a double (Jordan Westburg), single and RBI groundout.  They plated a ninth inning run on a walk, two stolen bases and an RBI single (former Phillie Diego Castillo).   The Phillies plated a run in the bottom of the ninth on a walk (Nick Podkul), single (Carlos De La Cruz) and pinch hit RBI single by Pedro Martinez.
