3/7/24 : Today in Spring Training

Minor League Camp :


Fielding and batting practice sessions along with side bullpens in the morning followed by live BP and an intra-squad scrimmage in the afternoon.


Side Bullpen sessions - Jean Cabrera, Micah Ottenbreit, Ezequiel Ventura, Wilmer Blanco, Starlyn Castillo, Danny Wilkinson, Saul Teran, Ty Collins, Nate Karaffa, Eduar Segovia, Drew Garrett, Alexis De La Cruz


Live BP’s -  LH Braeden Fausnaught and RH Enrique Segura


Good outing for Braeden Fausnaught  - showed swing and miss slider and cutter - good offsets to the fastball - struck out two of the five batters faced -yielded one single.  Enrique Segura had good pop on his fastball last season, that has seemed to increment even more, he yielded a hit against the four batters he faced.   Avery Owusu-Asiedu and Rixon Wingrove each singled.


Intra-squad Scrimmage : Roberts Field (six innings)


In the bottom of the first inning Brandon Marsh walked (he didn’t run the bases - runners were put in for him if he reached base) and Trent Farquhar was hit by a pitch.  Both runners moved up on a 2-3 ground out, Herbert Iser hit a sacrifice fly to center field to plate a run.


Ryan Leitch doubled to lead off the top of the second inning, he advanced to third on a groundout and scored on a sac fly by Lou Helmig.  The “visitors” scored another run in the top of the third inning as Yhoswar Garcia and Brandon Marsh singled, Garcia later scored on a 5-4-3 double play ground out.   Arturo DeFreitas hit a long home run to left field in the fourth inning.  DeFreitas knocked in another run in the 6th inning with a single to score Ryan Leitch (doubled) and Diego Gonzalez scored a run with an RBI single.


At the Plate :


Brandon Marsh made six plate appearances (he batted for both squads) and went 1 for 4 with a single, two walks and a strikeout.  Arturo DeFreitas had a day - he went 3 for 3 with two singles and a home run and posted two RBIs.  Ryan Leitch had two doubles in three at bats.  Yhoswar Garcia had two singles and a walk in four plate appearances.   Chad Castillo went two for three  with two singles, impressive hitter - smoked the ball twice.  Wilfredo Flores and Leonardo Rondon each singled, Rondon also stole a base.

Tampa scored three runs in the first inning on three singles and a double.  The Phillies plated two in the third inning as Bryson Stott singled and Edmundo Sosa doubled - they both scored on a single by Aramis Garcia.


At the Plate : 2 R, 7 H, 5 BB, 12 K’s


Edmundo Sosa went 2 for 3 with a single, double and walk, he scored a run.  Johan Rojas doubled.
