4/1/22 : Today in Spring Training

Didn’t venture over to the complex today as heavy rains from last evening and this morning likely kept workouts indoors. So - we stayed home and watched the Grapefruit League game on MLB TV from Sarasota instead. Also took the day to file my income tax return 🥴.

Orioles 3 Phillies 2

Offense :

Alec Bohm homered over the center field fence in the first inning, his first HR of the spring. Johan Camargo delivered an RBI single in the 4th inning scoring Bohm ( singled ).

Bohm had two hits in the game. Bryson Stott beat the shift, ( we’ve seen him do it quite often this spring ), with a ground ball down the third base line to lead off the sixth inning.

Rhys Hoskins squared the ball up consistently again today, he’s been swinging the bat well this spring, numbers don’t show it but it’s true. 🧐

The Phillies were held to just five hits.

Pitching :

LH Ranger Suarez - 2 IP, 2 R, 2 H, 2 BB, 3 K’s - yielded a two run HR in first inning to Ryan Moundcastle.

RH Corey Knebel - 1 IP, 1 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 K - gave up a solo HR to Jorge Mateo.

LH Bailey Falter - 3 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 K , 1 HB - threw very well - faced just 11 batters - crisp stuff today - looks ready to go.

RH Nick Nelson - 2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 2 K’s - also threw well - faced just 7 batters

Grapefruit League record is now 7-6-2

Minor League Releases :

Infielders Jose Tortolero and Cash Case were released yesterday. Best wishes to both young men in their future endeavors.

Other Notes

MLB umpires will use a microphone this season to announce replay review decisions to the crowd. NFL style.

Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
