Marcus Lee Sang had three hits including a double. Jadiel Sanchez also had three hits. Hao Yu Lee and Odubel Herrera each had two hits. Odubel doubled. Alexis Azuaje singled and walked twice out of the leadoff spot. Rixon Wingrove also singled and walked twice.

Notes :

Odubel played center field and looked to be moving without any difficulty - wouldn’t surprise me if he’s activated by the big club relatively soon - St Lucie is very close to Miami where the Phillies will play the next three days.

With the two step off or pickoff attempt limit rule per AB ( on the third it must result in an out else it’s called a balk ) it’s almost automatic after two attempts are made that the runner will go on the next pitch - that happened in the fourth inning when Gabriel Yanez did two step offs to keep a runner close at second base - the very next delivery the runner stole third and subsequently scored on a ground out. Weird rule.

Today in Extended Spring Training :

We stopped by the Complex and watched an intra squad scrimmage. It was an abbreviated version- four innings and in some of the half inning turns there weren’t any fielders in the field in essence making those occasions akin to a live BP session.

Infielder Nikau Pouaka-Grego is now stateside, the 17 year old Australian was signed in January and has been training at the Phillies Dominican Academy till now. He’s a middle infielder and left handed hitter. We met both his dad and grandfather today - they came to watch Nikau for a few days. He singled and walked in three plate appearances.

We also met OF/C Chris Burke’s mom and dad along with his brother today as they are in Clearwater to watch Chris play. He’s also an Australian and has been in the organization since July of 2019 and is just 20 years old - has been converting to more of an outfield role this season - very good wheels and perhaps could become a Daulton Varsho type player.

Pitchers in today’s scrimmage :

LH Jordan Fowler - 3 IP, LH Ethan Evanko - 2 IP, RH Aidan Anderson - 2 IP and RH Ty Collins - 1 IP. Anderson posted three strikeouts - his velocity on the fastball seems up a notch from last season, good action and movement.

Catcher Oscar Gonzalez made a strong throw to second base to nab a would be base stealer - we’ve touted his throwing ability for awhile now. In some of the half innings where no fielders took the field the hitters still ran the bases - Oscar had some fun with that as he feigned a throw coming into the plate as one of the runners headed around third base - gotta have fun on the backfields when ya can 😁.

Erick Brito and Leandro Pineda had a couple knocks today including ones that would have been extra bases and Albert Jerez stroked a double.
