Player Development Center Training - Carpenter Complex

Nick Nelson faced seven hitters in a simulated inning, he struck out one batter, got three ground outs and a fly out.  Yhoswar Garcia got a broken bat single to center and Felix Reyes singled.  Nelson intentionally threw about thirty pitches which included both fastballs and off speed deliveries.

Prior to the game the position players in camp had a team competition, divided into Team Blue and Team Red they went thru various practice drills earning points for their respective teams when they produced successes in each. The final round was BP with the last drills being situational hitting. It all boiled down to a last AB, Gavin Tonkel had the challenge of delivering a line drive to right center field and he came thru for the victorious Team Blue! 🤓.

Catcher Jack Conley left camp this morning to join the Iron Pigs in Durham, congrats to Jack for the assignment.  Yesterday infielder Cole Moore was assigned to the Clearwater Threshers, we wished him well also.  The PDC training is done to keep players at the ready when needed, it’s a long season and less than two weeks into it the group has already been tapped for backfills.

Extended Spring Training games begin next week, the Phillies PDC group will play the Jays at Carpenter Complex on 4/18 and 4/21 and the Yankees in Tampa on 4/20.  Games start at one o’clock.

Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
