System Transactions :
Reading : Madison Stokes was transferred from the Development List to active status. Ethan Wilson was placed on the seven day IL.
Player Development Center Training - Carpenter Complex
Ten pitchers threw side bullpen sessions on the seven mounds in front of the David Montgomery Training Center and on the pitching lab mound, pitchers who threw today - Mavis Graves, Nathan Karaffa, Jon Duplantier, Jhordany Mezquita, Victor Vargas, Malik Binns, Drew Garrett, Blake Brown, Daniel Harper & Griff McGarry.
Griff McGarry threw what’s referred to as a “short box” which is where the catcher receives the ball while setting up directly on the plate, he tossed about ten pitches or so, working his was back from an oblique strain. Andrew Painter, Gus Sosa and Rafael Marchan light tossed from ninety feet today while Nikau Pouaka Grego threw a bit from 60 feet or so. Progressions for each albeit a ways to go, patience and time required.
Live Bullpens :
Zach Haake and Jose Acuna threw. Haake was signed as a minor league free agent on 3/30/23 after being released by the Royals on 3/21/23. He’s a 6’7 twenty six year old hurler who was was the Royals 6th round draft selection in the 2018 draft from the University of Kentucky. He’s appeared in 66 minor league games, 46 as a starter. Today we saw three pitches from him, fastball (good pop), slider and a change up. Threw strikes and no one squared him up, decent first outing that we’ve seen him. It was evident that he’s got a power arsenal approach.
Simulated Game : One Inning
Nick Nelson and Estibenzon Jimenez each threw an inning. Nelson looks ready to go on rehab assignment, he threw two innings this week in simulated game action, last outing was on Wednesday. Had good pop today and seemed to throw all his pitches. I really like twenty one year old Estibenzon Jimenez, he’s been nicked up a bit which is why he didn’t open the season with Clearwater however he threw the ball really well today, had good velocity on the express and snap on his slider along with a slower curve. Produced a few swings and misses, he’s one to watch, I think he’s got a very bright future ahead of him.
