1B/OF Jay Bruce announced his retirement today ... “After 14 incredible seasons, I’ve decided to make the very difficult decision to retire from baseball. All I ever wanted to be ’when I grew up’ was a baseball player, and to say that I got to live out my dream would be the understatement of a lifetime. This sport gave me more than I could’ve ever asked for.” He had gotten off to a very slow start with the Yankees hitting just .118 in 34 AB’s ... best wishes to Jay going forward
Designated for Assignment :
OF Nick Williams -White Sox - he recently cleared waivers and agreed to be re-assigned to the club’s alternate training camp. Nick appeared in four games with the big club going hitless in ten AB’s.
RHP Franklyn Kilome - Mets. - he was designated on 4/10 and has now cleared waivers. Franklyn has been re-assigned to the Mets alternate training camp in Brooklyn. Franklyn has battled injuries throughout the latter part of his brief career, he will become a minor league free agent at the conclusion of this season if he doesn’t get placed back on the 40 man roster prior to that.
Recently Signed :
RHP Ivan Nova has signed a minor league deal with the Colorado Rockies and has reported to their alternate camp. Nova was in spring training this year with the Phillies.
OF Jiandido Tromp has signed a contract to play for San Marino in the Italian Baseball League. Jiandido played in the Phillies organization from 2012 to 2018. He reached the AAA level in both 2017 and 2018 but played primarily at AA Reading those seasons appearing in 212 games for the Fightins.
Promoted to the Major Leagues :
LHP Jesse Biddle - he was signed by the Braves on April 2nd to a minor league contract after being released by the Reds on March 26th. Jesse was promoted by Atlanta to the Major leagues yesterday ( 4/17 ) replacing Sean Newcomb who went on the IL for undisclosed reasons. It didn’t take long for him to get into a game as he pitched 1/3 of an inning last night against the Cubs ( 4 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 K ).

LHP Cole Irvin has made three starts for the Oakland A’s including tossing six shutout innings last night against Detroit to post his first victory of the season. Overall he’s 1-2 with a 4.60 ERA in 15 2/3 IP with 11 K’s and 2 BB and a 1.15 WHIP

Twins : UTL Willians Astudillo is hitting .304 in 23 AB’s ... he even pitched an inning on 4/16 against the Angels ... soft toss extraordinaire ... one of his deliveries came in at 46 mph 🤓

Mariners : SS JP Crawford is hitting .275 in 51 AB’s ... surprisingly he’s only walked twice.

Nationals : 2B Josh Harrison has been scaling hot going 10 for 18 ( .556 ) out of the gate after a delayed start due to Covid issues
