Player Development Center Training - Carpenter Complex

Eleven pitchers threw side bullpen sessions on the seven mounds in front of the David Montgomery Training Center and on the pitching lab mound, pitchers who threw today - Mavis Graves, Jace Vines, Saul Teran, Estibenzon Jimenez, Victor Vargas, Noah Song, Jose Pena, Nicoly Pina, Oswald Medina, Jhordany Mezquita and Eric Garcia - Song, Vines and Mezquita on 20 to 25 limited pitch counts.

Extended Spring Training Game vs Blue Jays @ Carpenter Complex :

Phillies 3 Blue Jays 1

Daniel Mejia started and pitched two innings (1R, 3 H, 1 BB, 2 K’s)  followed by Jake McKenna (2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 K), Giussepe Velasquez ( 2 perfect IP, 2 K’s), Matt Seelinger (2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 4 K’s) and Albertus Barber (1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 0 K’s). McKenna impressed with by “pitching backwards” featuring his curve ball.  Velasquez and Seelinger were both sharp.  Barber pumped strikes in the ninth to close it out, good life on his pitches.

Catcher Leonardo Rondon had two singles, one a bunt.  He’s fun to watch play, scored a run from first base when with two outs he read a pop fly to short right center field perfectly and rounded second base hard, when it dropped in it allowed Shawn Williams (coaching third base) to send him all the way around to the plate where he scored with a slide, just a heady play with all out hustle - good stuff!

Ricardo Rosario was 2 for 3 (single & double) with an RBI.  Yemal Flores and Jackie Pertuz each doubled.  Yhoswar Garcia walked once in three plate appearances, stole two bases and scored a run.  Felix Reyes hit the ball hard today as did Gavin Tonkel who doubled over the left fielder’s head on a rocket liner.  Kendall Simmons played seven innings at third base and made a couple nice plays to his left.  Reyes played shortstop, he’s performed well there this extended spring.
