Twenty five year old Felix Reyes (initially signed 2/22/20 as an international free agent from the Dominican Republic) is joining the Phillies today and will make his major league debut. It’s a proud occasion for the entire organization but in particular the Player Development group. Felix is highly regarded both for his baseball prowess (especially hitting) and as a person.
I was intending to spotlight him this week in my minor league weekly recap article - in fact I had reached out to Director of Player Development Luke Murton yesterday morning to get his thoughts on Felix and he said that “Reyes - he can just hit. One of the best kids in our organization. I see him as an MLB player for us.” Now he’s gonna get his chance.
In 2026 big league spring training he turned heads posting a .303/.324/.606 slash line and .930 OPS in 34 PA’s with a double, 3 home runs and 11 RBIs. Since then Felix has posted a .333/.345/.654 slash line and .999 OPS with 8 doubles, 6 home runs and 15 RBIs in 84 plate appearances over 18 regular season games played for Lehigh Valley. This week in four games in Minnesota against the St Paul Saints he’s went 8 for 20 with 1 double, 3 HRs and 5 RBIs. For the month of April he’s hit .344 in 64 plate appearances with a .719 slugging appearance. Felix is a very aggressive hitter and has not walked once during the month.
Last season at Reading he was named the Eastern League MVP playing in 95 games - 395 plate appearances - .335/.365/.572 slash line and .937 OPS - 34 doubles, 4 triples, 15 home runs, 65 RBIs, 18 walks, 61 strikeouts and 13 stolen bases. He won the Eastern League batting title and led the league in doubles, slugging percentage and OPS - was 5th in OBP. It was an absolute breakout season after beginning the year in extended spring training. Felix is an aggressive hitter that puts the ball in play and consistently hits it extremely hard. He doesn’t walk (5 % of PA’s in his career) or strike at a high rate (17 % of PA’s in his career) and his bat to ball skills are excellent.
For those of you who read me ya all know I’ve long touted Felix as one who consistently hits rockets - hard contact is his forte - in an article I wrote about him last season (link : https://www.philliesbaseballfan.com/post/7-3-25-minor-league-spotlight-felix-reyes ) he told me “Since I was little, I've worked on hitting the ball hard. My focus is always on making contact. Standing in a good position to be ready for the fastball and able to react to slow pitches.”
He’s a positive person (“The Positive” is his instagram handle) who believes in his abilities but is also cognizant of his roots - he said in the interview that “I grew up in a small town in Bani called Catalina. I was born and still live in the same place. I'm proud to represent my family and my town for having one more of the professionals in baseball” and “Well, the positive means that I always believe in what I do, always positive that everything will turn out well for me. Never negative.”
Felix is a big powerful fella at 6’3” but is also athletic - while he is not the fleetest of foot nor the greatest of defenders he can adequately play both infield and outfield corners. He’s confident in his abilities defensively - when he was in extended spring in 2023 he actually played shortstop due to a lack of infielders on the squad - then FCL Phillies Manager Shawn Williams told me then “Felix played some shortstop in extended spring. Has good hands and arm, we figured it could only help him to get a few innings there and it did, made some very athletic plays. Always has a smile, great personality. Loves the game, so refreshing to watch someone like that play. He can hit, has power and bat to ball skills. Big body, can play both corners and the outfield.”
I am very happy for Felix and truly believe his hitting ability will translate to continued success in the major leagues. He’s ready and confident to show his skills!
Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️

Felix Reyes
