The game ended on a weird play, Johan Rojas hit a pop up in front of the mound, no one came to field it so the pitcher tried to catch the ball, it clanked off his glove however runner Pedro Martinez (walked) was caught off second base because runner Max McDowell (walked) didn’t break from third, there were two outs on the play.  Martinez assumed McDowell would run and was steaming towards third base - he wasn’t a happy camper at getting thrown out.  Weird play indeed.

Notes :

Starting pitcher Tyler Phillips was ejected from the game in the bottom of the third inning by the home plate umpire arguing a safe call at home on a wild pitch where a runner scored from third base.  Tyler appeared to have tagged the runner out but didn’t get the call, he spiked the baseball in anger and was tossed.

A Quick Reflection :

In January of 2015 I retired from Pfizer and embarked on a second life as an amateur baseball writer focused on the Phillies minor leagues.  Nine years later I’m still plugging along as an amateur minor league writer and have had the honor of getting to know many baseball folks.  We’ve seen players we watched in their initial years of pro ball reach the majors but also have seen many become managers/coaches/scouts or move on to other jobs and professions.  Every now and again I like to look at the fellas I’ve gotten to know from the beginning of their pro careers who have reached the show at one point or another to see where they are now.
