At the conclusion of each minor league spring training camp the Phillies select two players to receive the Bill Giles and Larry Rojas Awards. These awards were established in 1999 to honor minor league players who share the same attributes as the awards namesakes : a love and respect for the game of baseball. They are given respectively to the American born and foreign born player who has been chosen by the coaches and staff as having the most outstanding camp. The awards were announced to the players earlier today at the Complex and this afternoon to the public.
This years winners are 21 year old catcher Logan O’Hoppe ( Giles Award ) and 20 year old outfielder Johan Rojas ( Rojas Award ). Both players were participants in major league camp in February/March and carried over their efforts into minor league camp once it began in April. They are both highly regarded prospects in the organization.
Congrats to both Logan and Johan for being awarded these prestigious honors !
