4/3/22 : Today in Spring Training
Carpenter Complex was quiet today as the backfields were drenched with overnight rain storms - as we left the stadium after today’s game the grounds crew was still working spreading new dirt in the infield areas. Good thing that tomorrow was already a scheduled off day for the minor leaguers. We spent our afternoon as per usual on Grapefruit League home field game days by watching the action inside the stadium.
The Grapefruit League Game : Phillies 8 Tigers 7
Mickey Moniak and Bryce Harper each hit two home runs. Harper would have had three but a strong wind was blowing in from right field when he hit it and brought it back into the field to be caught by the Tigers right fielder. Harper was 3 for 4 in the game as he also doubled. JT Realmuto had two hits and Kyle Schwarber also homered - his went completely over the back fence behind the berm in right field into the swamp area where long home runs come to rest. Moniak has made the opening day roster - no surprise at this point but still congrats to Mickey for the accomplishment !
The swamp area beyond the right field fence has multiple baseballs lodged in the water and mud 🤓

Other notes :
Minor League players 1B Rixon Wingrove and LF Leandro Pineda made their Grapefruit League debuts today as fielders. Freylin Minyety and Felix Reyes got at bats - Reyes rocketed a hard line drive to center field that was caught.
A group of minor league players that have been assigned to the Jersey Shore Blue Claws were in attendance to watch the game. The Claws were scheduled to fly north yesterday but the flight was cancelled due to the inclement weather. They will now depart tomorrow. Also in the house was former Phillies minor leaguer Curtis Mead who is now a highly touted prospect with the Rays. Curtis was on hand to cheer for fellow Aussie and friend Rixon Wingrove.
Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
