The Phillies have historically issued “Player of the Month” awards in two categories - Hitter and Pitcher. Below are a few nominations for the April awards 🤔🤓.
Hitter of the Month :
UTL Otto Kemp - Lehigh Valley - 25 years old - from Fullerton, CA - signed 8/1/22 as an un-drafted free agent - Point Loma Nazarene - eleven multi hit games - .315/.414/.685 slash line in 128 plate appearances with an OPS of 1.099 - 11 doubles, 1 triple, 9 home runs, 27 RBIs, 24 runs scored, 12 walks, 7 hit by pitches, 4 stolen bases - 74 total bases. Amongst or at the top of the International League leaders in runs, home runs, hits, RBIs, slugging pct, OPS and batting average.
2B Aroon Escobar - Clearwater - 20 years old - from Caracas, Venezuela - signed as an international free agent 1/15/22 -
seven multi hit games - .360/.461/.627 slash line in 89 plate appearances with an OPS of 1.088 - 5 doubles, 5 home runs, 18 RBIs, 11 walks, 3 hit by pitches, 21 runs scored - 47 total bases. Amongst or at the top of the Florida State leaders in runs, batting average, OBP, Slugging and OPS.
Pitcher of the Month :
RH Mick Abel - Lehigh Valley - 23 years old - from Beaverton, OR - 2020 1st round draft selection - Jesuit HS , Portland, OR - 3-2 record in 6 starts with a 2.88 ERA (34.1 IP) - 36 K’s, 13 BB, 1.25 WHIP, .231 BAA - Amongst or at the top of the International League in Wins, IP, K’s and ERA.
RH Ryan Dromboski - Clearwater - 21 years old - from Hamilton, NJ - signed as an un-drafted free agent 8/1/24 - University of Pennsylvania - 1.77 ERA in 6 appearances (1 start) in 20.1 IP with 19 K’s and 4 BB - 0.84 WHIP, .194 BAA
RH Luke Russo - Jersey Shore - 24 years old - from Howell, MI - 2023 16th round draft selection - Eastern Michigan University- 2.89 ERA in 5 appearances (18.2 IP) with 23 K’s and 5 walks, 1.07 WHIP and .205 BAA.
RH Griff McGarry - Reading - 25 years old - from Atherton, CA - 2021 5th round draft selection - University of Virginia - 0.00 ERA in three starts (12 IP), 16 K’s, 7 BB, 0.75 WHIP, .051 BAA - only 2 unearned runs and 2 hits allowed - went on seven day IL 4/21/25.
