4/4/23 : Jersey Shore Opening Day Roster

All but one player on the opening day roster are internally developed ( players that were drafted or originally signed as international free agents).  The roster is also heavily stocked with players who were part of the 2022 Australian League champion Adelaide Giants as well as bench coach Chris Adamson who was Adelaide’s manager.  Thirty players are made eligible each game day however more than that are generally listed on the team list.  Here’s the initial Jersey Shore roster.

Pitchers : 18

LH : Gabriel Cotto, Jordan Fowler, Tristan Garnett, Rafael Marcano, Jordi Martinez, Matt Osterberg

RH : Chase Antle, Carlos Betancourt, Carlos Francisco, Alex Garbrick, Sam Jacobsak, Victor Lopez, Gunner Mayer, Tommy McCollum, Jason Ruffcorn, Matt Russell, Rodolfo Sanchez, Cam Wynne

The initial starting staff will be Cotto, Fowler and Mayer with Osterberg, Marcano and Lopez taking turns in the rotation as well as being bulk relievers.  The back end of the bullpen will feature Martinez, McCollum, Russell, Garnett, Sanchez, Wynne, Ruffcorn and Garbrick.

Jordan Fowler closed out his spring training camp with a game in which he went three shutout innings, he’s also coming off a successful stint this winter in the Australian Baseball League with league champion Adelaide.  Gunner Mayer is a pitcher with upside potential who has battled the injury bug to date, hoping for a healthy and impactful season for the 22 year old 2019 5th round draft selection.  Lefty Gabriel Cotto had a good spring camp and moves up from Clearwater where he was a rotation anchor, the 22 year old was drafted in the 7th round of the 2018 draft from Puerto Rico.

Lefty Jordi Martinez amped up velocity in the off season and spring camp and moves to a bullpen role to use it more frequently.  Same with Matt Russell.  Plenty of more heat in the bullpen which figures to be a team strength with high octane arms like Tommy McCollum, Rodolfo Sanchez, Cam Wynne and Alex Garbrick.  Tristan Garnett brings an outstanding change up to the mix with a solid fastball to boot.  Jason Ruffcorn returns to JS as a closer option.

Catchers : 3

Anthony Quirion, Andrick Nava, Arturo De Freitas

All three receivers will see game action, Arturo De Freitas is a very good all around defender, Anthony Quirion is a take charge leader who can be both an offensive and defensive presence and Andrick Nava can rake.

Infielders : 7

Jamari Baylor, Wilfredo Flores, Hao Yu Lee, Casey Martin, Uziel Viloria, Nick Ward, Rixon Wingrove

Twenty year old Hao Yu Lee ( signed 6/15/21 from New Taipei, Taiwan ) anchors the infield with the brunt of his time likely at second base.  Casey Martin returns as the primary shortstop with Adelaide teammates Nick Ward and Rixon Wingrove holding down third and first base respectively, Ward will also see time in the middle infield spots.  Jamari Baylor ( 2019 3rd round draft choice - Benedictine HS, Richmond, VA ) had a really good spring camp and will see action at all four infield spots, he moves up from Clearwater.  Wilfredo Flores and Uziel Viloria are also multi position infielders, for that matter all but Wingrove will see action at multiple infield positions.

Outfielders : 4

Jared Carr, Marcus Lee Sang, Leandro Pineda, Troy Schreffler

Marcus Lee Sang ( 2019 11th round draft choice - Northern, Owings, MD ) and Leandro Pineda ( 20 years old - signed 7/6/18 from Valencia, Venezuela ) each had strong spring camps.  Lee Sang will be the primary center fielder with Jared Carr ( 2021 13th round draft choice - Shepherd University ) manning left field and Pineda right field, Troy Schreffler ( 2022 15th round draft choice - University of Maryland ) will play all three outfield positions.
