4/7/23 : Minor League Roundup


International League ( AAA ) - Scranton Wilkes-Barre 6 (3-3) Lehigh Valley 5 (3-3)

Allentown, PA - Coca-Cola Park


Summary :


Scott Kingery doubled in the first inning and scored on a triple by Dalton Guthrie.  Vimael Machín doubled to score Guthrie.


Jesus Bastidas hit a two run home run for SWB in the second inning.  A hit batter, walk, fly out advance and sac fly scored a third run.


SWB scored a run in the third inning on a walk, double (Jamie Westbrook) and a sac fly by Jesus Bastidas.


The Iron Pigs loaded the bases in the fifth inning on walks, John Hicks walked to score a run.


John Hicks doubled to score two runs in the seventh, Jim Haley (singled) and Dustin Peterson (reached on FC) scored.


SWB scored the game tying run in the 8th on a walk, wild pitch and two singles.  Billy McKinney singled to put the RailRiders ahead by one.


Francisco Morales threw very well, two perfect frames.  Ben Bowden struck out two batters in a perfect inning and Louis Ortiz struck out the side in a perfect ninth inning.


Defensive Gem :


Simon Muzziotti robbed extra bases with a leaping catch of a long fly against the left field fence to end the fourth inning.

Vimael Machín reached base in four of five plate appearances, he had two hits (single & double) and two walks. Simon Muzziotti had two singles.  Dalton Guthrie tripled and walked.  Scott Kingery doubled.  John Hicks had a double and three RBIs.  Esteban Quiroz singled and walked twice.

South Atlantic League ( High A ) - Brooklyn 9 (1-0) Jersey Shore 8 (0-1) - 11 innings

Brooklyn, NY - Maimonides Park


Summary :


The BlueClaws loaded the bases in the first inning as Hao Yu Lee was hit by a pitch, Leandro Pineda doubled and Rixon Wingrove walked.  Anthony Quirion walked to score a run after which Casey Martin singled to score a couple, another run scored on a throwing error.


Brooklyn scored their first run in the second inning on a walk, stolen base and single. A second run scored on a walk and two singles.


Cesar Berbesi tripled to bring home two runs for Brooklyn in the third inning.


Leandro Pineda hit his second double of the game in the sixth inning to score Hao Yu Lee (singled).


Brooklyn scored a run in the 8th inning on a walk, stolen base, throwing error and wild pitch.


Nick Ward and Casey Martin drew walks in the ninth inning, with two outs Jared Carr hit a fly ball to left field that the fielder clanked - Ward scored but Martin was thrown out at the plate.


With one out Brooklyn loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth on a single, walk and fielders choice.  A walk tied the score.


Marcus Lee Sang doubled off the left field wall to lead off the 10th inning to score placed runner Jared Carr.  Leandro Pineda singled to score Lee Sang.


Omar De Los Santos doubled for Brooklyn in the bottom of the tenth to score the placed runner. Joe Suozzi singled to score De Los Santos and tie the game. A walk put two runners on, a wild pitch moved them into scoring position.


With the placed runner on three walks scored the game winner in the 11th inning for Brooklyn.


Lefty Rafael Marcano was excellent as the bulk reliever going three scoreless innings allowing just one hit.


Defensive Gems :


Catcher Anthony Quirion threw out the first base stealing attempt he was challenged with nailing a runner at second base in the second inning.

Hao Yu Lee reached base in 4 of his 6 plate appearances (single, double, HBP, BB). Leandro Pineda had three hits (two doubles and a single) and posted two RBIs.   Anthony Quirion had two hits (single, double) and a walk and three RBIs.  Jared Carr was 2 for 4 with two singles.  Nick Ward had a single and three walks in six plate appearances, he also stole two bases.  Marcus Lee Sang had two knocks (single & double).  Casey Martin singled and walked in six plate appearances and had two RBIs.



Florida State League ( Low A ) Bradenton 3 (1-0) Clearwater 2 (0-1)

Bradenton, FL - LECOM Park


Summary :


Bradenton scored a run in the first inning on a single and three walks.


A hit batter and three walks scored a Bradenton run in the fourth inning, a wild pitch allowed a third run to score.


Cade Fergus doubled off the left field wall in the eighth inning to score Otto Kemp (walked). Erick Brito beat out a ground ball down the third base line for an infield single sending Fergus to third base. Justin Crawford reached on a fielders choice with his wheels on what could have been a 6-4-3 double play, instead the relay throw was thrown wide allowing Fergus to score.


Jean Cabrera pitched very well as the bulk reliever going three scoreless frames, he displayed great exuberance as well with his success, I truly enjoy when the players have fun playing the game!
