In exchange for RHP Enrique Segura the Phillies completed a trade for RHP Daniel Robert from the Texas Rangers.

Robert was added to the Phillies 40 man roster and optioned to Lehigh Valley. He is 30 years old and was the Ranger’s 21st round draft selection in the 2017 draft as a pitcher from Auburn where he was primarily a first baseman who pitched in relief as well. Robert is from the Birmingham, Alabama area. He didn’t initially sign after being drafted as he underwent TJ surgery, he signed six months later in 2018 joining the rehab group with the Rangers at their complex. He progressed thru the system to the triple A level and was a big league ST invite to 2023 camp with the Rangers. A year later he made his major league debut - in 4 appearances for the Rangers during his 2024 rookie campaign, he logged a 1-0 record and 3.18 ERA with 6 strikeouts across 5.2 innings pitched. This season he was in ST camp as a member of the 40 man roster before being optioned to AAA Round Rock. On 4/28/25 he was designated for assignment as the Rangers needed a roster spot for another transaction. He’s been pitching well at Round Rock this season posting a 1.54 ERA in 10 appearances (11.2 IP) with 17 K’s and 4 walks. Robert features a mid nineties four seam fastball along with a sweeper but also has a cutter, sinker and change up in his arsenal. Robert (nicknamed D-Bob) has two minor league options remaining.

RH Enrique Segura  is 20 years old and was signed by the Phillies as an international free agent on 1/15/22 from San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic. He opened the 2024 season with the FCL Phillies and made six starts (32.1 IP) posting a 3.90 ERA with 31 K’s and 12 walks. Enrique was promoted to the Clearwater Threshers on 6/11/24 and made 10 appearances (nine starts) totaling 42.2 IP - had some struggles with command/control and numbers weren’t great however he’s a resilient young man who used the experience as a learning one.  Enrique was back in Clearwater this fall as part of the High Performance Camp - he’s slender and adding “good weight” will certainly help him going forward.  Has good stuff and a delivery that’s akin to Aaron Nola.  At 6-foot-3 he features a 92-94 mph sinking fastball, a pitch that is a ground ball maker - his slider has good break and depth - is an out pitch.  In addition he throws a curve and change up.  This season with Clearwater Enrique had appeared in four games (three starts) and posted a 3.18 ERA in 17 IP with 19 strikeouts and 8 walks. In his last outing as a Thresher he went five innings allowing just one run on one hit and two walks - it was his best outing with Clearwater in 14 appearances over two seasons.  Enrique has always been on the prospect radar with potential mid nineties velocity and a competitive edge. The Rangers got a good young pitcher in return for a MLB ready reliever who drew significant interest once he was designated.  Seems like a fair trade at this point.

Best wishes to both young men as they continue their careers.

Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
