Florida State League ( Low A )  Clearwater 9 (22-7) Dunedin 4 (16-13)

Dunedin, FL - TD Ballpark

Summary :

We attended this one in person, an 11 AM Education Day event.

The Threshers scored three first inning runs, Jordan Viars was hit by a pitch and Felix Reyes singled, they each advanced a base on a wild pitch.   Otto Kemp singled to score them both, Kemp stole second base and advanced to third on a balk.  Ryan Leitch singled to score him.

Ryan Leitch walked to lead off the fourth inning, he then scored on a hard hit double to center field by Cade Fergus.  Fergus advanced to third base on a balk call and scored on a sac fly by Bryan Rincon.

Cade Fergus hit a long fly over the left field wall in the sixth inning for a home run, easy power 💪.

Dunedin used two singles and two errors (one fielding & one throwing on center fielder Justin Crawford) to score a run in the bottom of the sixth.   They used two walks, a wild pitch and a single to score a run in the seventh.

Felix Reyes singled in the 8th inning, advanced to second when the center fielder kicked the hard one hopper, to third on a wild pitch and scored on Cade Fergus’s second double of the game.

Dunedin used three singles to score a run in the bottom of the eighth.

Emaarion Boyd, Justin Crawford and Jordan Viars each singled to load the bases in the ninth inning.  Boyd and Crawford scored on a fielder’s choice ground out by Felix Reyes and a throwing error on the play.

Dunedin loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth on two hit batters and a single.  A single by Adrian Pinto scored a run.

Noticing the little things :

It won’t ever show up in a box score but I noticed.  On a double to left field where the runner made a turn to second right fielder Cade Fergus busted his tail to get into a back up position for an overthrow.  While the overthrow never occurred it was the effort to be in the right spot that made an impression.  He’s a heady player who is well schooled - good stuff.

On the Hill :

Jayden Estanista started and pitched three scoreless innings, one hit allowed, four walks and four strikeouts.  Jonh Henriquez followed and went three frames, one unearned run on two hits, four walks and three punch outs.  Eduar Segovia pitched an inning plus and Wesley Moore finished it by going two frames.

The ABS (Automated Balls and Strikes) was in use today, was calibrated really tight, a very finite strike zone.  There were multiple pitches that certainly looked like strikes that were called balls,Threshers pitchers walked twelve batters in the game, they were indeed erratic but this observer feels that the ABS wasn’t entirely accurate either.  I will just never be a fan of automated pitch calling regardless, just sayin 🤦‍♂️.

At the Bat :

Cade Fergus had another good day, went 3 for 4 with two doubles and a home run, he scored twice and posted three RBIs. Emaarion Boyd, Justin Crawford and Felix Reyes each had two singles. Reyes hit three balls really hard in his five AB’s, the big fella can swing it, if you read me ya know I’ve been touting his bat for a bit now.  Otto Kemp had a single, walk and two RBIs.
