Summary :


Syracuse scored two runs in the first inning on three walks, a single and sacrifice fly.  A walk, two singles and a sac fly score two more runs for them in the third inning.


Syracuse scored two runs in the 6th on two singles and a double.


At Bat : 0 R, 3 H, 1 BB, 9 K’s


Jim Haley had three hits.  Weston Wilson and Darick Hall and each had two hits.  Haley and Simon Muzziotti doubled.


On The Hill : 6 R, 14 H,  6 BB, 13 K’a


David Parkinson pitched 3 innings - 4 R, 5 H, 4 BB, 2 K’s.  Ricardo Pinto pitched two innings - 0 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 3 K’s.  Tyler Gilbert pitched  an inning - 2 R, 3 H, 0 BB, 2 K’s.  Griff McGarry pitched 1.2 innings, 0 R, 4 H, 0 BB, 3 K’s.  Andrew Bellatti pitched 1.1 innings - 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 3 K’s.


Series Stuff :


The IronPigs went 1-5 during the week - Jim Haley was 6 for 16 (.375) with two doubles and a triple. Scott Kingery was 3 for 10 (.300) with 2 HR’s and 5 RBIs, he left the game on 5/10 in the 4th inning with an injury and didn’t play the next two games.  Cody Roberts went 3 for 7 (.429) and Cal Stevenson posted a .450  OBP in 19 PA’s with 4 hits and 5 walks.  David Buchanan threw 6.2 innings in his start allowing 2 runs.  Ryan Burr made two scoreless appearances (2.1 IP - 5 K’s) as did Griff McGarry (2.2 IP - 5 K’s) and Ricardo Pinto (3 IP).


(AA) - Reading 6 (16-17) Hartford 3 (15-15)

Reading, PA - FirstEnergy Stadium


Summary :


Three singles scored a run for Hartford in the 1st inning.


Robert Moore doubled in the bottom of the 1st, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a groundout by Jose Rodriguez.


Carlos De La Cruz singled in the second, Caleb Ricketts walked. They both advanced on a wild pitch, Kendall Simmons singled to score De La Cruz.  Baron Radcliff hit a sacrifice fly to score Ricketts.


A single, double and fielding error scored a run for Hartford in the third inning.


Kendall Simmons singled in the 4th, Baron Radcliff walked.  Marcus Lee Sang singled which along with a fielding error scored them both.


Jose Rodriguez reached base on a throwing error in the 7th, stole second, advanced to third on another throwing error and scored on a sac fly by Carson Taylor.


A single and two fielding errors scored a run for Hartford in the 8th inning.


On The Hill : 3 R, 9 H, 0 BB, 9 K’s


Robinson Pina pitched six innings, 2 R, 8 H, 0 BB, 4 K’s - 93 pitches - 67 strikes.  Carlos Francisco pitched a perfect inning and struck out the side.  Matt Russell pitched an inning - 1 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 0 K’s.  Tyler McKay closed with a perfect 9th inning - 2 K’s.


At Bat :  6 R, 8 H, 2 BB, 7 K’s


Robert Moore and Kendall Simmons each had two hits.  Moore doubled.


Series Stuff :


Reading went 5-1 for the week - Kendall Simmons was 4 for 8 (.500) with a double, home run and three RBIs, he also was hit by a pitch twice and walked - .636 OBP in 11 PA’s.  Carson Taylor went 5 for 13 (.385) with a .438 OBP. , Ethan Wilson 7 for 19 (.368) with 2 doubles, a triple and 4 walks - .478 OBP, Jose Rodriquez 6 for 22 (.273) with 2 doubles, a triple, HR and 7 RBIs and Marcus Lee Sang (5 for 17 -. 294, HR, 3 RBIs ). 


Noah Skirrow pitched 5 innings in his start (1 unearned run), Konnor Ash three innings as an opener (0 Runs) and Robinson Pina went 6 frames (2 runs) as starters. Carlos Francisco (3.1 IP), Matt Russell (2 IP), Tristan Garnett (2.2 IP), Tyler McKay (2 IP), Tommy McCollum (2.1 IP) and Mitch Neunborn (3.1 IP) each made two scoreless relief appearances.


( High A )  - Jersey Shore 4 (20-13) Wilmington 1 (15-16)

Eleventh consecutive BlueClaws win!


Summary :


Wilmington scored a run in the third inning on a hit batter, ground out and single.


Leandro Pineda, Erick Brito and William Bergolla singled in the 4th inning.  Cade Fergus walked to score a run.  Jordan Dissin hit a sacrifice fly to score a run.


William Bergolla walked in the 6th inning and scored on a home run by Zach Arnold.


On The Hill : 1 R, 5 H, 2 BB, 8 K’s


Starlyn Castillo pitched 5 innings, 1 R, 4 H, 2 BB, 2 K’s - 73 pitches - 41 strikes.  Andrew Baker pitched a scoreless inning, 1 H, 0 BB, 2 K’s.  Trey Dillard pitched a perfect inning - 1 K.  Chuck King pitched a perfect inning and Andrew Walling struck out the side in a perfect inning to close out the win and record the save.


At Bat : 4 R, 8 H, 3 BB, 4 K’s


Justin Crawford had two hits (singles).  Zach Arnold hit a two run home run.


Defensive Standout :


Second baseman William Bergolla made a couple spectacular plays showing great range and a strong arm to record outs.  The young man has been solid all season on defense while working on finding his stride on offense.


Series Stuff :


The BlueClaws went 6-0 in the series.  Leandro Pineda was 11 for 20 (.550) with two doubles, a home run and seven RBIs. He also walked four times for a .600 OBP. 😳🔥.  Justin Crawford was 8 for 20 (.400), Emaarion Boyd 7 for 19 (.368), Cade Fergus 5 for 14 (.357),Erick Brito 6 for 17 (.353), William Bergolla 3 for 10 (.300) and Otto Kemp posted 6 hits and 2 walks in 26 PA’s (.346 OBP).


Jean Cabrera pitched seven innings in his start (one run allowed, 7 K’s), Samuel Aldegheri and Braeden Fausnaught each pitched six innings (each allowed just one run, 7 K’s each), Eiberson Castellano went five innings (one earned run, 7 K’s), Starlyn Castillo five innings (1 run) and Estibenzon Jimenez pitched 5.2 innings (two runs) as the starting pitching was excellent. 


Andrew Baker (2 IP - 4 K’s), Trey Dillard (2.1 IP), Daniel Harper (2 IP - 3 K’s), Chuck King (2 IP), Andrew Walling (2 IP - 4 K’s), Jack Dallas (3 IP) and Benyony Robles (2 IP - 4 K’s) each made two scoreless appearances in relief.  Gunner Mayer struck out 5 batters in two scoreless innings of relief work (one appearance).


(Low A )  - Clearwater 8 (22-11) Tampa 2 (10-23)

Summary :


Pierce Bennett led off the game with a walk, he advanced to third base on a double by Trent Farquhar.  Luis Caicuto doubled to score two runs. Jordan Viars walked and Bryson Ware was hit by a pitch.  Raylin Heredia hit a sacrifice fly to score a run.  Nikau Pouaka-Grego walked.  A wild pitch allowed a run to score.


Tampa scored a run in the bottom of the first on a double and single.  A walk, single and sacrifice fly scored a run for Tampa in the third inning.


Raylin Heredia walked and Nikau Pouaka-Grego singled in the 4th inning, they advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Pierce Bennett.


Pierce Bennett and Trent Farquhar walked in the 7th, Luis Caicuto singled.  Jared Thomas grounded out to score a run.  Jordan Viars hit a sacrifice fly to score another.


On The Hill : 2 R, 9 H, 2 BB, 6 K’s


Mavis Graves pitched five innings - 2 R, 6 H, 1 BB, 3 K’s - 86 pitches - 52 strikes.  Ethan Chenault pitched an inning, 0 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 K.  Jaydenn Estanista pitched an inning - 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 K.  Brandon Beckel pitched an inning - 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 1 K.   Chase Hopewell pitched a perfect inning - two ground outs, one fly out.


At Bat : 8 R, 7 H, 9 BB, 7 K’s


Jordan Viars and Luis Caicuto each had two hits (single & double).  Trent Farquhar doubled. Pierce Bennett and Nikau Pouaka-Grego each singled and walked twice.


Defensive Standout :


Luis Caicuto gunned down two would be base stealers at second base, he’s been very impressive with how quickly he gets rid of the ball and throw accuracy/arm strength - very good defensively behind the dish.


Series Stuff :


The Threshers were 4-2 for the week.  Aidan Miller was 7 for 16 (.438) with 2 doubles, 2 home runs and 7 RBIs - he posted a .526 OBP.  Nikau Pouaka-Grego was 4 for 9 (.444)with two walks (.545 OBP).  Jordan Viars 6 for 14 (.429) with 3 doubles, a home run and 3 RBIs,  Luis Caicuto 4 for 13 (.308), Pierce Bennett 3 for 10 (.300), Trent Farquhar 3 for 10 (.300) with 7 walks  (.611 OBP) and Raylin Heredia 5 for 17 (.294) with two doubles and a home run.  Casey Steward pitched five innings in his start (1 earned run) as did  Mavis Graves (2 runs).  Saul Teran (2 IP) posted two saves in two appearances.  Drew Garrett struck out four batters in two innings of relief work, Jonathan Petit made two appearances (4.1 IP) yielding just one run.


Complex League 1st week review : FCL Phillies  (3-3)


The FCL Phillies opened their year on 5/4/24 - they are 3-3 so far.  The highlight of the season to date was a 5-0 nine inning no-hitter on 5/11/24 by Enrique Segura (6 IP), Adilson Peralta (2 IP) and Josbel Garcia (1 IP)!


Eighteen year old Shortstop Starlyn Caba ( 6 hits, 6 walks in 25 PA’s - .480 OBP and a .316 batting average (6 for 19) is off to a hot start, he’s an outstanding fielder as well.  Nineteen year old catcher Guillermo Rosario is also off to a strong start (7 for 21 -.333) as is third baseman Aroon Escobar (19 yrs old) who is 7 for 22 (.318) with a .375 OBP.


Twenty year old left hander Juan Amarante has impressed in his two outings, swing and miss curve ball and a strike thrower - he’s posted 7 K’s in 3.2 IP.  RHP Luis Avila (20 yrs old) has shown a power arm straight over the top delivery - he’s made two strong relief appearances (2 IP) in the first week of the season. Adilson Peralta (20 yrs old) has made two appearances - 4 scoreless innings - 6 K’s.


Dominican Summer League :


Players at the Dominican Academy continue to train for their upcoming season (starts 6/3/24) by participating in extended spring games.  Standouts this week were 17 year old outfielder Samuel Estevez who went 5 for 9 (.556) with three doubles, a home run and three RBIs.  Seventeen year old catcher Anderson Navas was 5 for 11 (.455).


System Transactions :


Reading : Robinson Pina reinstated from the Development List.  Caleb Ricketts was reinstated from the 7-day IL.  Matt Osterberg placed on the Development List (retroactive to 5/10).  William Simoneit placed on the Development List.


Clearwater : RHP Jake Eddington has been placed on the 7-Day Injured List (retroactive to 5/10).
