5/14/23 : Minor League Roundup


International League ( AAA ) - Lehigh Valley 12 (19-19) Memphis 11 (24-15) - 11 innings

Allentown, PA - Coca-Cola Park


Summary :


Dustin Peterson doubled in the second inning, advanced to third on a single by Esteban Quiroz and scored on a single by Scott Kingery.


Memphis scored three runs in the fourth inning, they loaded the bases on walks, Aaron Antonini tripled to score them all.


Dustin Peterson doubled in the bottom of the fourth, advanced on a single by Scott Kingery and scored on a single by Vimael Machin.  Aramis Garcia singled to score Kingery.


Memphis scored four runs in the seventh inning.  Two walks, a throwing error and wild pitch scored the first run.  Two more walks and a double by Jordan Walker scored two runs.  A fielding error scored another run.


Scott Kingery doubled in the eighth inning and Vimael Machin walked, they scored on a double by Jake Cave.


Jhailyn Ortiz walked in the ninth inning and scored on a game tying home run by Weston Wilson.


The game went into extra innings.


Juniel Querecuto hit a two run home run in the top of the tenth for Memphis. Kramer Robertson doubled and later scored on a throwing error by catcher Aramis Garcia.


Aramis Garcia doubled to score placed runner Scott Kingery in the bottom of the tenth.  Jake Cave singled to score Garcia, Jim Haley singled to advance Cave to second base.  Jordan Qsar doubled to score Cave.


Memphis scored the placed runner in the 11th on a single by Luken Baker.


Vimael Machin singled in the bottom of the 11th to score placed runner Jhailyn Ortiz. Machin advanced to second base on the throw home. Aramis Garcia singled to left field to score Machin with the winning run for a walk-off victory!


On the Hill :


Michael Plassmeyer started and went four innings, three runs on three hits and four walks, four strikeouts. Jakob Hernandez pitched two scoreless frames allowing three hits. Four other pitchers pitched with Jeremy Walker finishing it with one and two thirds innings, one unearned run on three hits.


At the Bat :


Aramis Garcia had three hits (two singles & double) and three RBIs including the game winner. Scott Kingery had three hits (two singles and a double).  Vimael Machin hit three singles and an RBI.  Dustin Peterson hit two doubles. Jake Cave singled and doubled and had three RBIs. Weston Wilson homered, his 10th of the season.  Jordan Qsar doubled and walked twice.  The team had 18 hits and walked 6 times.



Eastern League ( AA) -  New Hampshire 7 (17-15) Reading 5 (12-20)

Reading, PA - First Energy Stadium


Summary :


Dylan Rock hit a two run home run for New Hampshire in the third inning.  Luis De Los Santos doubled in a run for them in the fourth inning and Karl Ellis hit a sac fly to score another.


Matt Kroon singled and Ethan Wilson doubled in the bottom of the fourth.  McCarthy Tatum singled to score Kroon. A fielding error allowed Wilson to score.


A walk, subsequent throwing error on a pickoff attempt and a fielder’s choice resulted in a run for New Hampshire in the sixth inning, Zac Cooks followed with a two run home run.


Nick Podkul homered in the seventh inning.


Johan Rojas homered and Matt Kroon singled in the eighth inning, they both scored on a double by McCarthy Tatum.


On the Hill :


Josh Hendrickson went five innings, four runs allowed, two earned on seven hits and a walk. Matt Seelinger pitched two perfect  innings in relief with two strikeouts, Braden Zarbnisky threw a scoreless frame.


At the Bat :


McCarthy Tatum had two hits (single & double) and three RBIs. Ethan Wilson had two hits (single & double). Matt Kroon had two singles.  Nick Podkul homered.



South Atlantic League ( High A ) - Jersey Shore 6 (14-15)  Greensboro 1 (20-13)

Greensboro, NC - First National Bank Field


Summary :


Nick Ward walked to lead off the game, he advanced on a single by Hao Yu Lee and scored on a single by Kendall Simmons.


Andrik Nava singled in the second inning and scored on a home run by Nick Ward, it was Nick’s third tater of the series.


Jared Carr doubled in the fourth inning, advanced to third on a fly out and scored on a sac fly by Hao Yu Lee.


Doubles by Tres Gonzalez and Will Matthiessen scored a run for Greensboro in the bottom of the fourth inning.


On the Hill :


Gunner Mayer started and pitched very well, three scoreless and hit less frames, one walk and five strikeouts. Rafael Marcano pitched two innings, one run on two hits and no walks. Rodolfo Sanchez pitched a scoreless frame, one hit allowed and two strikeouts posted. Tristan Garnett, Tommy McCollum and Matt Russell each pitched a scoreless inning, McCollum and Russell each threw perfect frames, McCollum struck out the side.  The staff had 13 strikeouts, allowed just four hits and two walks.


At the Bat :


Hao Yu Lee went three for three with a walk in four plate appearances.  Nick Ward was two for four with a home run and three RBIs, he also walked and scored twice.  Kendall Simmons had two hits and a walk in five plate appearances.  Andrik Nava singled and walked twice and Jared Carr doubled.


Notes :


Photographer Mark Wylie who moved to North Carolina during the off-season was on hand today at the stadium, I’m sure the team was happy to see him!

“Coming into today’s game Marcus Lee Sang had two home runs and thirteen walks on the current road trip.  He drew three walks on Saturday night, Lee Sang hit home runs on May 6th and Tuesday.  He also made a diving, over-the-shoulder catch on April 13th against Greensboro that was voted as the Minor League Baseball Defensive Play of the Month for April.” - from Media notes supplied by Greg Giombarrese - BlueClaws Director of Communications


Florida State League ( Low A ) Dunedin 6 (18-15) Clearwater 3 (24-9)

Dunedin, FL - TD Ballpark


Summary :


The Threshers scored the game’s first run in the first inning as Emaarion Boyd singled, went to second on a balk and scored on a single by Otto Kemp who extended his on base streak to 23 games with the base knock.


Dunedin scored twice in the bottom of the first, they loaded the bases on a hit batter and two walks.  A third walk forced in a run and a sac fly scored another.


The Blue Jays plated three runs in the second on a hit batter, groundout and single by Manuel Beltre.  After a single by Tucker Toman a double by Glenn Santiago scored two runs.  A walk followed by an RBI double by Jean Arnaez scored a run for them in the third inning.


Clearwater scored twice in the seventh inning, Cade Fergus hit a long home run over the left field fence that landed on the school roof beyond the stadium, our friend Gary Kay (whom we were sitting next to at the game) had called a dinger for Cade before he hit it 😎.  Two hit batters and a walk loaded the bases, a second walk scored a run.


On the Hill :


Wen Hui Pan was outstanding in relief, three perfect innings with four strikeouts.  He needed only 34 pitches, 22 of which were strikes, fastball was in the 96 for 98 mph range, he also threw a slider and splitter,  the splitter had minimal spin and fell off the table at the plate, really strong outing.  Wesley Moore pitched a scoreless and hit less eighth inning, one walk and two strikeouts.


At the Bat :


Otto Kemp had two hits (single & double) and an RBI.  Felix Reyes and Gabriel Rincones Jr each doubled.  Cade Fergus homered.
