5/19/23 : Minor League Roundup


International League ( AAA ) - Worcester 9 (22-21) Lehigh Valley 8 (20-22) - 10 innings

Worcester, MA - Polar Park


Summary :


Drew Ellis hit a three run home run in the first inning.


Niko Goodrum and Bobby Dalbec hit solo home runs for Worcester in the bottom of the first.


Daniel Palka homered for Worcester in the second inning.


John Hicks walked in the 6th inning, went to second on a passed ball, to third on a ground out and scored on a sac fly by Vito Friscia.


Worcester tied the game with a run in the bottom of the sixth on three singles.


Drew Ellis hit his second home run of the game in the seventh inning, this one scored two runs.


Narcisco Crook doubled for Worcester in the 8th and scored on a single by David Hamilton.


Simon Muzziotti reached on a two base error in the ninth, advanced to second on a sac bunt by Jim Haley and scored on a grounder by Drew Ellis where the catcher missed the throw home for an error.


Worcester scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game as Bobby Dalbec singled, Ryan Fitzgerald doubled and Ronaldo Hernandez singled to score them.


The game went into extra innings tied at seven.


Vimael Machin doubled to score placed runner Scott Kingery in the top of the tenth.


The placed runner, an infield single by David Hamilton, stolen base and intentional walk loaded the bases for Worcester in the bottom of the 10th with no outs.  A grounder to third baseman Drew Ellis and throw home was the first out of the inning. Bobby Dalbec singled to score two runs for the walk off win for Worcester.


On the Hill :


Michael Plassmeyer pitched five innings, three runs on eight hits, two walks, four strikeouts. Four other pitchers followed.


At the Bat :


Drew Ellis had three hits (single & two home runs) with five RBIs.  Jordan Qsar and Vimael Machin doubled.

Summary :


Carlos De La Cruz singled in the first inning and went to third on a single by Johan Rojas.  Rojas stole second base.  De La Cruz scored on a ground out by Oliver Dunn.  Rojas scored on a single by Nick Podkul.


Johan Rojas singled, stole second and scored on an RBI single by Nick Podkul in the second inning.


Somerset scored one run in the fifth inning as they loaded the bases on a single, fielding error (missed catch) by left fielder Carlos De La Cruz and a walk.  A ground out scored the run.


Two walks and a single loaded the bases for Somerset in the sixth inning, a two out RBI single by Brandon Lockridge scored two runs.


Somerset loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth on walks, a fly ball to center field scored the walk off winning run.


Web Gem :


Left fielder Carlos De La Cruz made a very nice over the shoulder running catch in the fourth inning.


On the Hill :


Good bounce back outing for Mick Abel, five innings, one unearned run, two hits, three walks and three strikeouts.  Mick used his power fastball (95 to 98 mph) to pitch out of a fifth inning jam.  Andrew Baker and Andrew Schultz each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.


At the Bat :


Nick Podkul had three hits (singles) and two RBIs. Johan Rojas hit two singles, stole two bases and scored twice.

Summary :


Marcus Lee Sang tripled in the second inning and scored on a single by Casey Martin.  Arturo DeFreitas walked and Wilfredo Flores singled to load the bases, Nick Ward doubled to score two runs.  Kendall Simmons homered to score two more.


Three singles scored a run for Wilmington in the third inning.


Leandro Pineda doubled in the third inning, went to third base on a single by Arturo DeFreitas and scored on a single by Wilfredo Flores.  Nick Ward grounded out to score another run.


Erick Mejia homered for Wilmington in the fourth inning.


Leandro Pineda walked in the fifth inning, stole second and scored on a single by Kendall Simmons.


Rixon Wingrove homered in the bottom of the eighth inning.


Wilmington scored two runs in the ninth inning on two walks and two singles.


On the Hill :


Jordan Fowler was once again solid, five innings, two runs, eight hits, one walk and one strikeout. Chase Antle pitched a scoreless sixth inning. Carlos Francisco pitched a perfect seventh inning, Jordi Martinez a scoreless eighth.  Tommy McCollum struggled with control in the ninth but was able to finish it out.


At the Bat :


Rixon Wingrove was three for five (two singles & HR) Kendall Simmons had two hits (single & HR) and three RBIs. Wilfredo Flores was three for four (two singles & a double), Nick Ward walked and doubled and posted three RBIs.  Leandro Pineda doubled, Marcus Lee Sang tripled.

Summary :


Three singles scored a run for Bradenton in the second inning.


Otto Kemp singled in the sixth inning, went to third on a double by Gabriel Rincones Jr and scored on a balk. Jordan Dissin singled to score Rincones Jr.  Cade Fergus singled, advanced to second on an error and scored along with Dissin on a single by Chad Castillo.


Two singles, a balk and a ground out scored a run for Bradenton in the seventh inning, another scored on an RBI single by Javier Rivas.


Cade Fergus doubled to score Jordan Dissin (walked) in the 8th inning.


On the Hill :


Good outing for Alex McFarlane, five innings pitched, one run, seven hits, two walks and eight strikeouts. Wen Hui Pan pitched three innings, two runs, three hits, two walks and two strikeouts.  Jack Dallas finished it with a perfect ninth inning.


At the Bat :


Gabriel Rincones Jr and Cade Fergus each had two hits (single & double), Justin Crawford walked three times and stole two bases.

Fifteen pitchers threw side bullpen sessions, pitchers who threw today - Jake McKenna, Eric Garcia, Mason Ronan, Eiberson Castellano, Christian McGowan, Starlyn Castillo, Yoniel Ramirez, Ty Collins, Christopher Soriano, Luis Gomez, Josh Bortka, Chase Webster, Micah Ottenbreit, Nathan Karaffa and Seth Nightingale


Extended Spring Training Game vs Blue Jays @ Dunedin, FL :


Blue Jays 7 Phillies 6 (8-3-4)


William Bergolla and Dakota Kotowski had three hits apiece. They both doubled.  Leonardo Rondon had two hits (single & triple), Marco Soto doubled.  Kotowski had three RBIs.  Raylin Heredia, Jehisbert Sevilla and Gavin Tonkel each singled.


Jon Duplantier (two frames, two runs, one hit, two walks and three strikeouts), Zach Haake (two IP, one run, two hits, one walk, one strikeout), Jose Peña (two IP, one run, three hits, one walk, one strikeout), Konnor Ash (one scoreless IP, no hits, one walk, two strikeouts), Braeden Fausnaught (one IP, one run, one hit, no walks or strikeouts) and Oswald Medina (one IP, two runs, three hits, no walks or strikeouts) pitched.

5/18/23 : Tigers1 4 Phillies Red 3 (6-3-1)


Nolan Beltran and Eduardo Tait each doubled as part of the eight hits the Phillies collected in the game.  Juan Villavicencio, Manolfi Jimenez, Jaeden Calderon, Jarol Martinez, Dervin Andrade and Kilwer Colmenares each singled.  Rainy Mota and Ramon Reyes each threw two scoreless innings allowing just one hit apiece, Reyes struck out five batters.  Naoel Mejia pitched a scoreless ninth inning and Joel Heredia pitched two innings allowing one run on two hits.


5/18/23 : Phillies White 3 (7-2-1) Pirates2 2


Angel Mata homered, Starlyn Caba, Jerffson Pena and Yhoan Escalona each singled.  The team was held to just those four hits but also walked seven times, two each for Andres Tabares and Leny Carela.  Luis Avila started and pitched two scoreless innings allowing one hit and two walks, he struck out four batters.  Eduar Fernandez pitched two perfect frames including two strikeouts.  Javier Fuenmayor and John Sosa each struck out the side in a perfect inning of work and Juan Melendez pitched a scoreless inning.
