5/19/24 : Minor League Roundup

International League ( AAA ) - Norfolk 5 (23-22) Lehigh Valley 3 (16-26) - 12 innings

Norfolk, VA - Harbor Park   


Summary :


Outstanding pitching on both sides resulted in a scoreless tie thru nine innings with a total of just seven hits allowed.


In extra innings the scoreless stretch ended in the top of the 11th when Aramis Garcia doubled to score placed runner Cody Roberts.


Norfolk scored a run (placed runner) in the bottom of the 11th on a single and ground out.


In the 12th inning Simon Muzziotti walked.  Weston Wilson doubled to score placed runner Jordan Luplow.  Esteban Quiroz reached on an error on which Muzziotti scored.


Heston Kjerstad hit a grand slam home run in the bottom of the 12th for Norfolk with two outs for the walk off win.


At Bat :3 R, 6 H,4 BB,16 K’s


David Dahl and Weston Wilson each had two hits (single & double).  Cody Roberts and Aramis Garcia each doubled.


On The Hill :  5 R, 7 H, 5 BB, 14 K’s


David Parkinson was outstanding - 6 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 1 HB, 1 BB, 5 K’s - 82 pitches - 55 strikes.  Taylor Lehman pitched an inning - 0 R, 1 H, 1 HB, 1 BB, 1 K - 24 pitches - 15 strikes.  Max Lazar pitched an inning - 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 3 K’s - 17 pitches - 12 strikes.  Ryan Burr pitched two innings - 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 4 K’s - 31 pitches - 22 strikes.  Nick Nelson went 1.2 innings, 5 R - 3 earned, 3 H, 1 BB, 1 K - 38 pitches - 20 strikes.


Series Stuff :


The IronPigs went 3-3 in Norfolk, they are 16-26 overall  - David Dahl hit for the cycle in game one of a doubleheader on Wednesday going four for four, it was the third cycle in franchise history and first in ten years. He went 9 for 21 in the series.  Cal Stevenson was 8 for 14 with three doubles and a home run, five walks (.650 OBP). Michael Mercado pitched five scoreless innings, one hit allowed.  Tyler Phillips went seven innings (three runs) to post his 4th win of the year.  David Parkinson threw six scoreless innings on Sunday. Darick Hall missed the series due to being placed in concussion protocol, he was hit by a ricocheted foul ball off the dugout wall early in the week.


Eastern League ( AA ) - Reading 6 (17-22) Richmond 2 (17-22)

Richmond, VA. - The Diamond


Summary :


Richmond scored in the second inning on a walk, stolen base and single.


Carlos De La Cruz walked in the fourth inning and scored on a double by Bryce Ball.  Casey Martin doubled to score Ball.


A walk and double scored a run for Richmond in the 6th inning.


Marcus Lee Sang singled in the 7th, Caleb Ricketts and Ethan Wilson walked.  Carlos De La Cruz doubled to score two runs.


Jose Rodriquez singled in the 9th, advanced to second on a fly out and scored on a single by Carlos De La Cruz.  Bryce Ball and Trevor Schwecke singled, Carlos De La Cruz scored.


On The Hill : 2 R, 5 H, 7 BB, 10 K’s


Konnor Ash opened and pitched three innings - 1 R, 3 H, 4 BB, 3 K’s - 72 pitches - 40 strikes.  Matt Russell pitched two innings - 0 R, 0 H, 2 BB, 2 K’s - 27 pitches - 15 strikes.   Mitch Neunborn pitched 2/3 of an inning - 1 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 K - 21 pitches - 11 strikes.  Andrew Schultz retired all four batters he faced - 1 K - 12 pitches - 7 strikes.  Cristian Hernandez pitched a perfect inning - 3 K’s - 13 pitches - 9 strikes.  Tommy McCollum pitched a perfect inning to close it - 9 pitches - 6 strikes.


At Bat : 6 R, 11 H, 5 BB, 10 K’s


Carlos De La Cruz had three hits (single & two doubles) with three RBIs.  Bryce Ball and Marcus Lee Sang each had two hits (single & double).  Casey Martin doubled.


Series Stuff :


Reading went 1-5 in Richmond, they are 17-22 overall - Carlos De La Cruz was 6 for 20 with three doubles. Jose Rodriguez was 6 for 16 with two doubles and three stolen bases. Noah Skirrow pitched six innings yielding one unearned run. Matt Russell made two scoreless relief appearances (4 IP).


South Atlantic League ( High A )  - Jersey Shore 6 (22-17) Hudson Valley 5 (19-17) - ten innings

Wappingers Falls, NY -  Heritage Financial Park


Summary :


Bryan Rincon reached on an error in the first inning, stole second base and went to third on a single by Otto Kemp.  Kemp stole second and moved to third when Leandro Pineda grounded out to score Rincon.  Kemp then scored on a balk.


Emaarion Boyd was hit by a pitch in the second inning,  Andrick Nava singled.  William Bergolla singled to score Boyd.


Leandro Pineda homered in the third inning.


Hudson Valley scored twice in the 5th inning on two walks and a double.


A fielding error (shortstop Erick Brito) and two doubles scored two runs for HV in the 6th.


Otto Kemp walked in the 7th, stole second base, went to third on a ground out and scored on a sacrifice fly by Felix Reyes.


HV scored a run in the 8th on a walk, single, hit batter and ground out.


Emaarion Boyd put down a sacrifice bunt in the top of the 11th to move placed runner Zach Arnold to third base, he scored on a sacrifice fly by Andrick Nava.


The game took 3 hours and 46 minutes to play.


On The Hill : 5 R, 9 H, 8 BB, 11 K’a


Starlyn Castillo went 4.1 innings - 2 R, 3 H, 1 HB, 4 BB, 6 K’s - 88 pitches - 51 strikes.  Jack Dallas went 1.1 innings, 2 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 K - 24 pitches - 18 strikes.  Daniel Harper went 1.1 innings, 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 2 K’s - 18 pitches - 11 strikes.  Andrew Walling pitched an inning plus one batter - 1 R, 1 H, 2 BB, 1 HB, 1 K - 20 pitches - 9 strikes.  Chuck King pitched two innings - 0 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 1 K - 22 pitches - 13 strikes.


At Bat : 6 R, 10 H, 4 BB, 6 K’s


Andrick Nava had three hits (singles).  Felix Reyes had two hits (singles).  William Bergolla had two hits (single & double).   Leandro Pineda homered.


Series Stuff :


The BlueClaws went 2-4 in Hudson Valley, they are 22-17 overall  - Otto Kemp went 10 for 24 with two doubles, two triples and home run. The BlueClaws hit four triples in the game on Saturday.  William Bergolla was 8 for 21 with five RBIs and Felix Reyes 6 for 15.  Leandro Pineda hit two home runs and drove in five runs.  Gunner Mayer made two scoreless relief appearances (3 IP) as did Daniel Harper (3.1 IP).


Florida State League ( Low A )  - Clearwater 3 (27-12) Daytona 2 (19-20)

Summary :


Trent Farquhar walked in the first inning, he was forced out at second base on a grounder on which Devin Saltiban reached base.  Saltiban stole second base and scored on a single by Pierce Bennett.


Jared Thomas walked in the second inning, Kehden Hettiger singled.  They both advanced a base on a groundout.  Avery Owusu-Asiedu hit a sacrifice fly to score a run.  Trent Farquhar singled to score another.


Daytona scored a run in the third inning on two doubles. A walk and two singles scored a ninth inning run for them.


On The Hill : 2 R, 6 H, 2 BB, 12 K’s


Jonathan Petit opened and pitched 3 innings - 1 R, 3 H, 0 BB, 3 K’s - 44 pitches - 29 strikes.  Brandon Beckel pitched great - 3 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 5 K’s - 31 pitches - 20 strikes.  Paxton Thompson threw two perfect frames - 4 K’s.  Saul Teran finished - 1 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 2 BB, 0 K’s - his 7th save of the year.


At Bat : 3 R, 5 H, 4 BB, 4 K’s


Trent Farquhar and Pierce Bennett each had two hits (singles), a walk and an RBI.


Series Stuff :


The Threshers went 5-1 hosting Daytona, they are 27-12 overall.  Trent Farquhar was 7 for 16 with eight walks (.625 OBP).

Keaton Anthony was 6 for 14 with two doubles.  Rafael Marchan went 3 for 11 on rehab assignment with a home run and three RBIs with three walks (.467 OBP).  Devin Saltiban was 6 for 19 with two doubles and two home runs, six RBIs. Mavis Graves pitched six innings, one unearned run, one hit, ten strikeouts.  George Klassen returned to action - two perfect innings - three strikeouts.  Brandon Beckel threw three scoreless innings in relief - one hit, five strikeouts.


System Transactions :


Lehigh Valley : Eury Ramos transferred to LHV from Reading.


Reading : Zach Haake reinstated from the Development List.  William Simoneitreinstated from the Development List.

Wesley Moore placed on the 7-day IL (retroactive to 5/18).
