5/20/23 : Minor League Roundup

International League ( AAA ) - Worcester (22-21) Lehigh Valley (20-22) - PPD - Rain

Worcester, MA - Polar Park

Eastern League ( AA) -  Reading 6 (14-23) Somerset 5 (23-14)

Bridgewater, NJ - TD Bank Ballpark

Summary :

Austin Wells homered for Somerset in the first inning.

Matt Kroon doubled in the second inning and scored on a home run by Madison Stokes.

TJ Rumfield homered for Somerset in the third inning scoring two runs.

Brandon Lockridge homered for Somerset in the fourth inning.

Madison Stokes singled in the fifth inning and went to third on a single by Max McDowell.  Nick Podkul tripled to score them both, Carlos De La Cruz singled to score Podkul.

Somerset scored a run in the bottom of the fifth on a walk, single (Austin Wells) and a sac fly.

Oliver Dunn walked in the 6th inning, advanced to second on a balk, to third on a single to right field by Matt Kroon and scored on a 4-6-3 double play.

On the Hill :

Josh Hendrickson started and went four plus innings (faced two batters in the fifth).  Matt Seelinger pitched two scoreless innings allowing one walk and striking out one, an inherited runner scored in the fifth inning.  Braden Zarbnisky pitched a perfect seventh inning.  Max Kuhns pitched in and out of trouble in the 8th inning (first two runners reached on a double & walk) by striking out the side in a scoreless frame.  Taylor Lehman pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn the save.

At the Bat :

Madison Stokes (single & HR), Max McDowell (two singles) and Matt Kroon (single & double) each had two hits.  Nick Podkul tripled.

The other Eastern League team to not be shutout was Altoona, but the Curve were no hit at Bowie last night. Summary :

Otto Kemp walked in the seventh inning, advanced to second on a single by Jordan Viars and scored on a single by Felix Reyes.

Bradenton loaded the bases with no outs in the eighth inning on a single and two walks, Javier Rivas doubled to score three runs.

On the Hill :

Estibenzon Jimenez pitched five scoreless innings, one hit, one hit batter, four walks and five strikeouts.  Alex Rao was tagged for three runs on two hits and two walks in two plus (faced three batters in the 8th inning) innings of work. Wesley Moore pitched two innings, three inherited runners scored in the eighth inning, his line - no runs, one hit, one walk, three strikeouts.

At the Bat :

Otto Kemp extended his on-base streak to 27 games with two singles and walk.

Player Development Center Training - Carpenter Complex

Five pitchers threw side bullpen sessions, pitchers who threw today - Drew Garrett, Dominic Pipkin, Mavis Graves, Giuseppe Velasquez and Jhordany Mezquita.  Mitch Neunborn and Daniel Harper threw live BP’s.
