The Phillies current record of 30-18 (.625) and the Lehigh Valley IronPigs record of 32-14 (.696) is the best Major League/AAA tandem record at 62-32 (.659) for all thirty organizations. They are the only franchise at the moment to have 30 wins at the major league level and an affiliate with 30 or more wins - the IronPigs total of 32 ties with the Tigers big league mark as the current high mark in both Major and Minor League baseball. Along with the Tigers the Phillies represent the only two organizations to have the major league club and a full season minor league affiliate both playing above a 62 percent winning pace - the Tigers are 32-17 (.653) and AA level Erie is 26-14 (.650) while High A West Michigan is 26-13 (.667). 👏
Lehigh Valley’s Otto Kemp leads all of minor league baseball in Total Bases (108) with the next highest total being 95. Otto also leads in hits (57), extra base hits (28) and being hit by a pitch (13). He is tied for second in doubles (16), tied for third in home runs (11), tied for second in runs scored (38) and tied for third in RBIs (39). He’s also shown durability as he’s tied for second in games played (44) and is second in plate appearances (207). 😳
The Florida State League embarks on a new experiment this week, beginning with yesterday’s games bat-tracking technology to call check swings is in place. According to a May 20th article written by Sam Dykstra on MLB “Using the same Hawk-Eye system as ABS, a swing will be called when the head of the bat moves ahead of its knob by more than 45 degrees. Anything less than that will be considered a non-swing. Each club will have one Check Swing Challenge per game and will retain the challenge if it is successful.” The bat tracking technology was first used last year in the Arizona Fall League. The Florida State League was also the testing ground for the ABS for balls and strikes in 2022 as well as the “pie slice” – two lines in the middle infield prohibiting the shift around second base, both are still in use. Life in the minors has always been for experimenting and learning - that includes technology- just sayin. 🤓
Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
