5/3/24 : Minor League Roundup

Following are game recaps for the Phillies minor league affiliates.

( AAA ) - Worcester 4 (14-16) Lehigh Valley 2 (12-16 )

Worcester, MA - Polar Park

Summary :

Enmanuel Valdez homered for Worcester in the first inning.  Three singles scored another run for Worcester in the second inning.

Scott Kingery walked, Jose Godoy was hit by a pitch and Simon Muzziotti singled in the 7th, Kingery scored on a Kody Clemens ground out.  Darick Hall hit a sacrifice fly to score another.

A catchers interference, double, wild pitch and single scored two runs for Worcester in the 8th inning.

At Bat : 2 R, 5 H, 5 BB, 5 K’s

Darick Hall and Matt Kroon each doubled.

On The Hill : 4 R, 8 H, 7 BB, 8 K’s

Tyler Phillips went 6.2 innings, 2 R, 6 H, 7 BB, 6 K’s -  112 pitches - 61 strikes. Kolby Allard pitched 2/3 of an inning,  2 R - 1 earned, 2 H, 0 BB, 0 K’s.  Ryan Burr struck out the only two batters he faced.

Did Ya Know 🧐 :

Jose Ruiz had his contract selected by the Phillies when they placed RHP Yunior Marte on the IL. Ruiz has allowed two runs across 11 innings (1.64 ERA) with three walks against 13 strikeouts in 10 relief appearances for the IronPigs this season, holding opposing hitters to a .179 batting average. His three saves lead the team

(AA) - Portland 9 (14-8) Reading 3 (10-14)

Portland, ME - Hadlock Field

Summary :

Two doubles and three singles scored four Portland runs in the third inning.

Caleb Ricketts singled in the 4th inning and scored on a double by Bryce Ball.

Mathew Lugo homered for Portland in the bottom of the fourth.

A double, two walks and three singles scored four runs for Portland in the 5th inning.

Carson Taylor walked in the sixth, he scored on a single (Trevor Schwecke) and subsequent error.  Bryce Ball doubled to score Schwecke.

On The Hill : 9 R, 15 H, 5 BB, 13 K’s

Matt Osterberg pitched four innings - 8 R, 10 H,  1 BB, 4 K’s.  Matt Russell pitched an inning, 1 R, 2 H,  2 BB, 3 K’s - three inherited runners scored.  Andrew Schultz pitched an inning - 0 R, 1 H, 2 BB, 2 K’s.  Tommy McCollum pitched a perfect inning - two K’s.  Matt Lazar pitched an inning - 0 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 2 K’s.

At Bat : 3 R, 7 H,  1 BB, 14 K’s

Bryce Ball had three hits (single & two doubles) and two RBIs

Did Ya Know 🧐 :

The Fightin Phils continued a six-game series at the Portland Sea Dogs tonight. It was the ninth of 21 matchups between the teams this season, with Portland coming in holding the 6-2 edge. Reading won the series in 2023 11-9 over Portland.  Following last night’s postponment, the teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, begining at 1p.m.

( High A )  - Jersey Shore 8 (12-13) Bowling Green 5 (13-12)

Lakewood, NJ - ShoreTown Ballpark

Summary :

Two walks, two singles and a wild pitch scored two first inning runs for Bowling Green.

A single by Leandro Pineda followed by two hit batters loaded the bases for Jersey Shore in the 2nd inning.  William Bergolla hit a sacrifice fly to score a run.  Emaarion Boyd and Otto Kemp pulled off a double steal to score another.

A single, stolen base and throwing error scored a run for Bowling Green in the third.

Otto Kemp tripled in the fourth inning and scored on a Cade Fergus ground out.

Otto Kemp singled in the 6th and scored on a Cade Fergus home run.

Justin Crawford reached on an error in the seventh, Jordan Dissin and Bryan Rincon singled.  Felix Reyes singled to score a run, Leandro Pineda singled to score two.  Otto Kemp hit a sacrifice fly to score a run.

Hunter Haas hit a two run home run for Bowling Green in the eighth inning.

On The Hill : 5 R, 7 H, 4 BB, 14 K’s

Eiberson Castellano pitched three innings, 3 R - 2 earned, 3 H, 2 BB, 5 K’s.  Mason Ronan pitched two scoreless innings - 0 H, 2 BB, 4 K’s.  Trey Dillard pitched 1.2 innings, 0 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 1 K.   Wesley Moore pitched 1.1 innings, 2 R, 1 H, 1 HB, 0 BB, 3 K’s. Daniel Harper finished it - 1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 K

At Bat : 8 R, 9 H, 2 BB, 6 K’s

Otto Kemp (single & triple) and Leandro Pineda (two singles) each had two hits.  Cade Fergus homered and had two RBIs.

Note :

Left fielder Emaarion Boyd was hit by a pitch in the shoulder and then later landed on his shoulder making a catch - he came out of the game with the trainer after the catch.  Right fielder Troy Schreffler left the game later also with an apparent injury.

Did Ya Know 🧐 :

Erick Brito had two hits on Thursday, his fourth two-hit game of the season, the second most on the team behind Justin Crawford (seven).  Brito had nine with the BlueClaws last year (June 13th through the end of the season) and four from July 3rd through the end fo the season.  He also has four stolen bases so far this year.

( Low A )  - Clearwater 5 (17-8) Lakeland 3 (16-9)

Lakeland, FL - Joker Marchant Stadium

Summary :

Aidan Miller doubled in the third inning, he scored when TJayy Walton reached on a throwing error by Lakeland’s shortstop.

After walking two batters George Klassen was taken out of game in the top of the fifth after summoning the training to come out - hopefully nothing serious.  Lakeland scored two runs in the inning as a double and single followed the walks after a double play.

Devin Saltiban was hit by a pitch in the 6th, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Pierce Bennett single.

Lakeland scored a run in the 6th on two walks, a wild pitch and a sacrifice bunt.

Avery Owusu-Asiedu doubled in the 9th inning, Trent Farquhar singled. TJayy Walton doubled to score a run.  Luis Caicuto singled to score two more.

On The Hill : 3 R, 7 H, 6 BB, 10 K’s

George Klassen went 4 + two batters innings - 1 R, 3 H, 3 BB, 7 K’s - 72 pitches - 44 strikes - left game with an apparent injury concern.  Jake Eddington pitched 1.2 innings, 2 R, 3 H, 3 BB, 0 K’s.  Jose Peña Jr was very good - 2.1 innings, 0 R, 0 H,  1 HB, 0 BB,  1 K.  Saul Teran closed it - 1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 2 K’s.

At Bat :  5 R, 12 H, 1 BB, 13 K’s

Aidan Miller had three hits (single & two doubles).  TJayy Walton had two hits (single & double) as did Devin Saltiban (two singles).  Avery Owusu-Asiedu doubled. Luis Caicuto had two RBIs.

Defensive Gem :

Shortstop Aidan Miller made a terrific turn (full pivot on toss from second baseman behind the bag) to complete a double play in the fifth.

System Transactions :

Lehigh Valley : RHP José Ruiz promoted to Phillies.  RHP Ricardo Pinto elects free agency.  RHP Beau Burrows transferred to roster from Reading.

Clearwater : RHP Luis Ortiz has been returned from his major league rehab assignment (retroactive to 5/2).
