This week’s Spotlight Player : Utility Player Nolan Beltran - 21 years old - signed as international free agent 1/15/22 - Barranquilla, Colombia
Last season was an injury riddled season for Nolan who began the year as the regular shortstop with Clearwater before being transferred to the FCL on May 6th and being placed on the IL three days later - he didn’t return to active status till August 5th and finished out the season with the Threshers.
This season began with an assignment to AA Reading - he played in two games and garnered three at bats before being transferred to Clearwater on April 9th. Once given the chance to play regularly with the Threshers he’s taken off offensively posting a .339/.493/.429 slash line in 73 plate appearances with 19 hits and 17 walks driving in 13 runs while scoring 16. This week against Palm Beach he went 7 for 15 (.467) with a double, home run and seven RBIs - he also drew 5 walks (.600 OBP in 20 PA’s). It’s been the best offensive run of his brief career to date - he had a very solid 2023 season in the Dominican Summer League posting a .297/.375/.405 slash line in 128 plate appearances and had a strong month of July that year with a .333/.368/.361 slash line in 38 plate appearances.
Nolan is a left handed hitter who throws right handed - defensive versatility has been his calling card as he’s played all four infield positions and left field in his career to date. He was a member of the 2022 DSL champion Phillies White club playing in 51 games that season as a regular in the middle infield (26 games at 2B and 23 at SS). He plays winter league ball in his native Colombia for the Tigers de Cartegena - the team played in the league championship series this past season. Nolan has played for the Tigers each of the past two winter league seasons. He’s off to a great start this season - hoping good fortune continues his way in both health and on field performance!
