The Clearwater Threshers will take a 13 game winning streak to Dunedin on Tuesday while also fashioning the best winning percentage in 2023 minor league baseball with a .778 clip (21-6). Norfolk of the AAA level International League is next, they are winning at a .750 clip (24-8).
It’s the longest Thresher win streak since they ran off eight consecutive wins last season from April 19th to April 27th and I believe the longest in minor league baseball this season (the AAA level Memphis Redbirds won 12 in a row in April). According to what I could find in my internet research it is also the longest since the AA level Portland Sea Dogs of the Eastern League won 15 in a row in 2021 from July 8th to July 21st.
The Sea Dogs streak matched a 15 game run by the 2018 Nashville Sounds of the AAA level Pacific League. Those streaks were the lengthiest I could find after the 2015 Savannah Sand Gnats of the Class A South Atlantic League won 18 games in a row.
According to my Cracker Jack research the longest minor league winning streak in history belongs to the 1987 Single A Salt Lake City Trappers of the Pioneer League who won 29 games in a row from June 25th to July 26th of that season. The Trappers were an independent team in a league that featured teams affiliated with the Reds, Dodgers, Brewers, Blue Jays, Braves and Giants and consisted of players who went undrafted or unsigned by baseball’s major league franchises.
Just sayin, the Threshers thirteen game win streak is pretty impressive in the scheme of recent minor league baseball. It’s also impressive that the last four wins of the current run were done in walk-off fashion! Good stuff.
