5/7/24 : Minor League Roundup

( AAA ) - Syracuse 18 (18-14) Lehigh Valley 3 (12-19)

Allentown, PA - Coca-Cola Park

Summary :

Syracuse scored two runs in the 4th inning on two singles, two walks and a force out.   They scored two more in the 5th on a fielding error and two singled.

Cal Stevenson doubled in the 6th inning and scored on a single by Jordan Luplow.

Two singles, a double and three walks scored three runs for Syracuse in the 7th inning.  Trayce Thompson hit a grand slam home run for 4 more runs.  A single, hit batter, three walks and a two doubles scored seven more runs.  In total a 14 run inning for Syracuse 😳.

In the bottom of the 9th Darick Hall singled, Weston Wilson and Esteban Quiroz walked.  Scott Kingery singled to score two runs.

At Bat : 3 R, 6 H, 5 BB, 10 K’s

Cal Stevenson doubled.

On The Hill : 18 R, 13 H, 10 BB, 6 K’s

David Parkinson pitched 4 innings, 2 R, 2 H, 3 BB, 4 K’s.  Tyler McKay pitched an inning - 2 R - 1 earned, 3 H, 0 BB, 1 K.   Kolby Allard pitched 1.1 innings, 7 R, 4 H, 3 BB, 0 K’s.  Andrew Bellatti went 1/3 of an inning, 6 R, 2 H, 3 BB, 0 K’s.  Taylor Lehman pitched 1.1 innings, 1 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 K.  Catcher Cody Roberts pitched the ninth inning - three up, three down - two groundouts and a line out.

With 40 steals since the start of April, the 'Pigs are t-2nd in the IL in stolen bags during that time frame. They've only been caught five times as well which makes for the best stolen base percentage in the IL over the past month as well (88.9%). In fact, they've only been caught stealing five times the entire season, the fewest caught stealings in the IL. - Media notes

Summary :

Jose Rodriquez doubled off the outfield wall in the first inning, he scored on a single by Carson Taylor.

Baron Radcliff and Ethan Wilson walked in the second inning, they both scored on a triple by William Simoneit.  A wild pitch allowed Simoneit to score.

Hartford scored a run in the 4th on two singles and a ground out.

Marcus Lee Sang hit a two run home run in the bottom of the 4th inning.

Marcus Lee Sang walked in the 7th, went to third on a double by Robert Moore and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jose Rodriquez.

On The Hill : 1 R, 8 H, 4 BB, 8 K’s

Noah Skirrow had his best outing of the season - 5 IP, 1 R, 5 H, 2 BB, 2 K’s - 82 pitches - 51 strikes.  Andrew Schultz pitched a scoreless inning - 0 H, 1 BB, 1 K.  Wesley Moore made his Reading debut by pitching a scoreless inning - 1 H, 0 BB, 3 K’s.  Matt Russell pitched an inning - 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 2 K’s.  Tommy McCollum pitched an inning - 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 0 K’s

At Bat : 7 R, 8 H, 6 BB, 6 K’s

Jose Rodriguez had two hits (both doubles) as did Carson Taylor (two singles).  Robert Moore and Bryce Ball each doubled, William Simoneit tripled and Marcus Lee Sang homered (5th of season).  Simoneit and Lee Sang each had two RBIs.

Summary :

Justin Crawford singled in the 4th, Bryan Rincon walked and Otto Kemp singled to load the bases.  Leandro Pineda singled to score two runs.   

William Bergolla singled in the 5th inning, Jordan Dissin walked.  Justin Crawford singled to score Bergolla.  Bryan Rincon singled to score both Dissin and Crawford.

Branden Boissiere homered for Wilmington in the seventh inning.

Otto Kemp doubled in the seventh and scored on single by Leandro Pineda.

On The Hill : 1 R, 2 H, 2 BB, 9 K’s

Jean Cabrera was outstanding once more - his second consecutive seven inning outing - 1 R, 2 H, 2 BB, 7 K’s - 86 pitches - 58 strikes.  Benyony Robles pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.  Jack Dallas closed it - 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 HB, 0 BB, 0 K’s.

At Bat : 6 R, 12 H, 4 BB, 6 K’s

Justin Crawford went 4 for 4 (singles) with two runs scored and an RBI.  Otto Kemp had three hits (two singles and a double). Leandro Pineda had two hits (singles) and posted three RBIs. Bryan Rincon had a single and walk and two RBIs.

LHP Braeden Fausnaught, who threw six scoreless innings with eight strikeouts on Saturday, was named SAL Pitcher of the Week.  He is the first BlueClaws winner this year and fifth since the team moved to High-A three years ago (Mitch Neunborn in 2023, Ben Brown in 2022, and Tyler McKay and Kevin Gowdy in 2021). - Media notes

Game One :  Tampa 8 Clearwater 2

Summary :

Two singles and a walk loaded the bases for Tampa in the 1st inning - a ground out scored a run.  Tomas Frick hit a two run home run for Tampa in the 2nd inning - two walks, a balk and two out single scored two more runs.

TJayy Walton singled in the 4th inning, stole second and scored on a single by Devin Saltiban.

Jackson Castillo hit a home run for Tampa in the 4th inning.

A walk and two singles scored a run for Tampa in the 5th.

Oswald Peraza homered for Tampa in the 6th inning.

Raylin Heredia and Trent Farquhar walked in the 7th inning, Aidan Miller singled.  TJayy Walton walked to score a run.

On The Hill : 8 R, 11 H, 6 BB, 3 K’s

Micah Ottenbreit pitched four innings - 6 R, 7 H, 4 BB, 2 K’s - 83 pitches - 43 strikes.  Brandon Beckel pitched two innings - 2 R, 4 H, 2 BB, 1 K.

TJayy Walton had two hits (singles).

Game Two : Clearwater 4 Tampa 3

Summary :

Jordan Viars doubled in the 2nd inning and scored on a single by Nikau Pouaka-Grego.  Avery Owusu-Asiedu doubled to score Pouaka-Grego.  Dakota Kotowski singled to score Owusu-Asiedu.

A single, four walks and double scored three runs for Tampa in the 4th inning.

Trent Farquhar singled in the 5th inning, TJayy Walton was hit by a pitch.  They both moved up on a groundout.  Farquhar scored on a sacrifice fly by Devin Saltiban.

On The Hill : 3 R, 4 H, 7 BB, 11 K’s

Jake Eddington opened and pitched two innings - 0 R, 1 H, 2 BB, 1 K.   Jaydenn Estanista pitched 1.2 innings, 3 R, 2 H, 4 BB, 4 K’s.  Jonathan Petit was excellent - 2.1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 5 K’s.  Saul Teran closed it for his 6th save -  1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 1 K.

At Bat : 4 R, 7 H, 2 BB, 2 K’s

Trent Farquhar had two hits and two walks. Nikau Pouaka-Grego had two hits, Jordan Viars and Avery Owusu-Asiedu each doubled.

FCL Phillies 4 (2-1) FCL Yankees 3 (1-2) - seven innings

Clearwater, FL - Carpenter Complex - Roberts Field

Summary :

Starlyn Caba walked in the 1st inning, stole second base, went to third base on a fly out and scored on a sacrifice fly by Eduardo Tait.

Two singles, a hit batter, passed ball and two walks scored two runs for the Yankees in the 4th inning.

In the 6th inning Guillermo Rosario was hit by a pitch, Jerffson Peña walked, Rickardo Perez hit an infield single which loaded the bases.  Ezra Farmer walked to score a run.  AJ Shaver hit a ground rule double to score two runs.

Josue Gonzalez homered for the Yankees in the 7th inning.

On The Hill :  3 R, 8 H, 4 BB, 8 K’s

Maxwell Hernandez pitched 4 innings - 2 R, 5 H, 4 BB, 4 K’s.  Adilson Peralta pitched two scoreless innings - 1 H, 0 BB, 2 K’s.  Josbel Garcia pitched an inning - 1 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 2 K’s.

At Bat : 4 R, 7 H, 4 BB, 6 K’s

Guillermo Rosario had two hits (singles).  AJ Shaver doubled and posted two RBIs.  Starlyn Caba singled, walked twice and scored a run.
