6/10/24 : Minor League Week in Review - 6/3 to 6/9

A summary of results and standouts from the past week in the Phillies minor league system.

 

Lehigh Valley :

 

The IronPigs went 4-2 at home against Buffalo, they are 27-34 overall - newly acquired outfielder Ruben Cardenas (came from Rays) had a great first game hitting two home runs with six RBIs Saturday.  Infielders Trevor Schwecke (5 for 14) and Scott Kingery (6 for 20 - two HR’s) had good weeks.  RHP Tyler Phillips pitched seven innings on Saturday in a win, he’s averaged 6.1 innings/game in his twelve starts and 95 pitches per start. RHP Max Lazar made three scoreless relief appearances (3 IP) - his ERA at Lehigh Valley is 0.75 in ten games (12 IP).

 

Reading : 

 

Reading went 4-2 at home against Harrisburg, they are 25-32 overall - RHP Robinson Pina threw a complete game (seven inning contest) shutout on Saturday. RHP Noah Skirrow and four relievers threw a nine-inning shutout on Sunday with Skirrow going five innings.  Offensively outfielder Carlos De La Cruz had a strong week (8 for 22 - two HR’s & seven RBIs) as did outfielder Marcus Lee Sang (8 for 18), catcher Caleb Ricketts (5 for 15), first baseman Carson Taylor (6 for 20, 2 HR’s), third baseman Kendall Simmons (two HR’s - .421 OBP) and infielder Robert Moore (7 for 19). 

 

Jersey Shore :

 

The BlueClaws went 4-2 in Greensboro, they are 32-25 overall - with nine games left in the first half they are in first place with a half game lead over Greensboro for a playoff berth.  Nineteen-year-old infielder William Bergolla hit his first professional home run on Saturday, he was 10 for 21 this week and had a five-hit game on Sunday.  Infielder Otto Kemp continued his hot hitting going 10 for 25.  Center fielder Justin Crawford was 10 for 28 with seven RBIs - he had four hits on Sunday.  Infielder Erick Brito was 8 for 25 and played stellar defense at shortstop.  Outfielder Leandro Pineda went 9 for 29 extending his hitting streak to 14 games.  Outfielder Emaarion Boyd went 3 for 3 with two walks on Friday and had three more hits Sunday - he was 7 for 21 for the week with six RBIs.  Andrew Baker (2), Daniel Harper (3), Charles King (2), Mason Ronan (2) and Danny Wilkinson (2) made multiple scoreless appearances out of the bullpen.

 

 Clearwater :

 

The Threshers went 2-4 in Bradenton, they are 36-21 overall - with nine games remaining in the first half they trail Lakeland by one game for the West Division title and playoff berth.  LHP Mavis Graves struck out ten batters in five innings of work on Saturday - he’s posted 67 K’s in 47 IP this season to date. Offensively first baseman Keaton Anthony was 8 for 17 with two home runs and five RBIs.  He’s hitting .328 for the season in 119 AB’s. 

 

FCL Phillies : 

 

The FCL Phillies went 4-1 during the week, they are 15-11 overall.  RHP Enrique Segura pitched five and a third innings in his start on Friday allowing two runs - one earned, RHP Luis Gonzalez made two appearances during the week (five innings) yielding one run and struck out six batters. Infielder Aroon Escobar was 7 for 16 (.438) with a home run, six RBIs and four runs scored. Infielder Nolan Beltran hit two home runs and had four RBIs in Friday afternoon’s win. 

 

Dominican Summer League  :

 

The Dominican Summer League season opened on Monday - the Phillies have two teams - Red & White.  Team Red went 2-1 and Team White 1-2 for the week, each team had two rainouts. Catcher Alirio Ferrebus hit three home runs and drove in six runs in eight at bats.  Right-handed pitcher Joel Heredia went five innings in his first start allowing two runs on four hits.  Alexander De Los Santos pitched four scoreless and hitless innings on Saturday.

 

Injury Updates :

 

There are multiple players at the complex working with the rehab and re-tooling team.  This week RHP Andrew Painter made his first mound appearance, he threw ten tosses off the slope in front of the rubber - a progression in a long process of recovery.  RHP Dominic Pipkin threw off the field mound on Saturday in a thirty pitch up-down session.  RHP Max Castillo did so on Friday, RHP Jake Eddington, RHP Wen Hui Pan, LHP Jordan Fowler and RHP Luis Ortiz threw live BP sessions.
