System Transactions :

Lehigh Valley : RHP Jake Jewell released, INF Vimael Machin released.

Reading : RHP Jake Thompson signed to a minor league contract.  He’s 28 years old and was the 4th round draft selection of the Boston Red Sox in the 2017 draft from Oregon State.  He’s a reliever who had been pitching for AAA level Worcester this season before being released on May 18th.  He’s another “big arm” pitcher whose fastball has reached 97 mph, he’s also got a slider and splitter and throws both a two seam and four seam heater.

Jersey Shore : INF Hao-Yu Lee reinstated from the 7-day IL. INF Uziel Viloria placed on the Development List.

Clearwater : INF Matt Alifano and OF Tony Schreffler promoted from the FCL Phillies.

Matt (22 years old) was signed on 7/25/22 as an un-drafted free agent from Adelphi University.  He played with the Threshers last season appearing in 15 games.  This year he participated in extended spring training and posted a high OBP (.578) as he recorded 8 hits and 16 walks in 45 plate appearances, he hit .308.  He also made quite a few strong standout defensive plays at second base. In this year’s FCL play he’s went 4 for 12 and has posted a .385 OBP appearing defensively at second, shortstop and third base. I’d expect him to have a similar role with the Threshers playing multiple infield positions.

Schreffler is a 22 year old and began this year with the Jersey Shore BlueClaws before being transferred to the Player Development Training Center in early June to work on offensive approach.  Drafted in the 15th round of the 2022 draft from the University of Maryland he’s got outstanding speed and is a strong defender at any of the three outfield positions.  Troy stole nine bases in the 19 games he played at Jersey Shore this season and posted a .379 OBP in 58 plate appearances showing a good eye capturing 12 walks.  The coaching staff has been working with him to be able to drive the ball more, there’s pop in the bat which if unlocked and coupled with his speed can produce gap to gap results.  He will get the chance to deliver with the Threshers where he played in 27 games last season.

Note :

Beginning tomorrow I will be taking a three week hiatus, during that time I won’t be posting daily minor league roundups in the same manner.  I suggest reading each of the affiliated websites, if you aren’t already, for detailed coverage.  It’s my intention to return to my regular posting process in early July.

Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
