6/25/23 : Week Twelve Minor League Review (6/19 to 6/25)


An overall record of 20-17 for the seven teams this week.  Reading, Jersey Shore and Clearwater each had a 4-2 winning record.  The Jersey Shore BlueClaw relievers had a great week, they threw over twenty one collective innings of scoreless baseball and starter Matt Osterberg pitched seven innings on Wednesday, as he did last week, allowing just two runs.  Relievers also pitched well for Clearwater, in particular Wen Hui Pan and Jonh Henriquez who each made two appearances and threw four innings apiece yielding just one unearned run between them.  Braeden Fausnaught pitched hitless and scoreless baseball for the Threshers in a three inning relief appearance and Adam Leverett (Reading) tossed no hit/no run ball over two appearances (four innings).  Tyler Phillips (two starts, two wins, eleven IP, two runs, ten strikeouts) had a wining outing on both Tuesday and Sunday for Reading.  Danyony Pulido was perfect over four frames with eight strikeouts for DSL Phillies White and multiple relievers had strong weeks for Lehigh Valley including Andrew Bellatti who hasn’t yielded a run or issued a walk over his last eight appearances (eight IP, nine K’s).


On the hitting side Darick Hall posted the highest OBP in the system (.609 in 23 PA’s, 8 hits, 6 walks) for the week and hit .471 for the IronPigs.  Carlos De La Cruz (Reading) extended his on base streak to 38 games and posted a .480 OBP for the week, Casey Martin(.421), Johan Rojas (.346) and Matt Kroon (.458) all put up great numbers at the dish for Reading.  Justin Crawford stayed hot for Clearwater (.412 avg. in 17 AB’s), he continues to lead the Florida State League in batting average with a .346 mark.  Ricardo Rosario had a two home run game for the Threshers. Marcus Lee Sang (.444) had a big week for Jersey Shore with three doubles and a home run.  Anthony Quirion (.533 average) put up great numbers on rehab assignment with the FCL Phillies along with teammate Marco Soto (.438 average).


AAA Level : Lehigh Valley : 2-4 for the week against Worcester, 36-37 overall - 6/28/23 vs Rochester

Tuesday : Jake Cave hit two doubles, Scott Kingery singled and doubled.  Drew Ellis doubled and had two RBIs.


Wednesday : The team was held to two hits, Darick Hall walked three times.


Thursday : Jake Cave (two doubles, two runs scored), Drew Ellis (single, HR, three walks, two RBIs ) and Darick Hall (single, double, walk,RBI) each had two hits.  Esteban Quiroz homered and had two RBIs.  Simon Muzziotti singled and had two RBIs.


Friday : Darick Hall had three hits (two singles and a double) and walked once. Dustin Peterson, Weston Wilson, Simon Muzziotti and Scott Kingery each had two hits.  Wilson, Haley and Kingery each doubled.  Simon Muzziotti and Dustin Peterson each homered.


Saturday : Rafael Marchan, Weston Wilson and Esteban Quiroz each had two hits, Marchan and Quiroz doubled as did Drew Ellis.  Wilson hit his 15th home run of the season.


Sunday :  Darick Hall had two hits and a walk, John Hicks had two hits.  Weston Wilson and Drew Ellis homered.


Pitchers :


Andrew Bellatti - three appearances, three IP, no runs, three hits, no walks, six strikeouts, no runs/walks in last 8 games, 9 K’s.

Connor Brogdon - two appearances, three IP, no runs, no hits, no walks, four strikeouts.

Ben Bowden - two appearances, three IP, no runs, one hit, two walks, three strikeouts.

Trey Cobb - three appearances, two and two thirds IP, no runs, one hit, three walks, two strikeouts.

Jesus Cruz - two appearances, three IP, no runs, no hits, two walks, five strikeouts.

Recap :


Tuesday : Bullpen game, seven pitchers used.  Trey Cobb and Jesus Cruz threw scoreless frames. Taylor Lehman retired the only two batters he faced and stranded two inherited runners.


Wednesday : Five pitchers were used, Trey Cobb, Luis Ortiz and Andrew Bellatti each threw scoreless frames.


Thursday : TJ Zeuch started and went four and two thirds, three relievers pitched scoreless baseball behind him; Taylor Lehman, Connor Brogdon (two perfect innings, two strikeouts) and Ben Bowden (two innings).


Friday : Six pitchers were used in the game, Jesus Cruz was most effective with two scoreless innings. Andrew Bellatti pitched a perfect ninth to seal the win.


Saturday : Francisco Morales pitched two perfect innings in relief, two strikeouts. Luis Ortiz pitched a scoreless inning.  Six pitchers were used in the contest.


Sunday : Three pitchers were used, Connor Brogdon pitched a perfect inning, two strikeouts.


AA Level : Reading : 4-2 for the week against Portland, 28-40 overall - 6/28/23 vs  Richmond

Tuesday : Matt Kroon (three singles),Casey Martin (two singles & double) and Johan Rojas each had three hits, Rojas singled twice, doubled and stole three bases, he’s now hitting .319 for the season.  Oliver Dunn had two hits including a home run, he also walked and posted three RBIs.


Wednesday : Matt Kroon and Johan Rojas each had two hits, Kroon, Baron Radcliff and Cody Roberts each doubled.  Oliver Dunn hit a two run home run.  Carlos De La Cruz extended his on base streak to 35 games.


Thursday : Carlos De La Cruz had three hits as did Ethan Wilson (two doubles & HR, three RBIs, three runs scored). Johan Rojas, Casey Martin and Baron Radcliff each had two hits. Radcliff, Rojas and Madison Stokes doubled, Oliver Dunn homered. 


Friday : Oliver Dunn and Madison Stokes each had two hits, both doubled. Carlos De La Cruz singled and walked twice.


Saturday : Nick Podkul had two hits (double & HR) as did Matt Kroon (single & double). Johan Rojas singled and had an RBI.


Sunday : Nick Podkul hit two triples, scored twice and drove in two runs.  Matt Kroon had three hits (two singles & a double) and two RBIs. Baron Radcliff had two hits.  Carlos De La Cruz and Cam Cannon each doubled.



Pitchers :


Tyler Phillips - two appearances, two wins, eleven innings pitched, two runs, eight hits, five walks, ten strikeouts.

Mick Abel - five innings pitched, two earned runs, five hits, three walks, four strikeouts.

Keylan Killgore - four appearances - four and one third IP, no runs, two hits, two walks, four strikeouts.

Adam Leverett - two appearances - four IP, no runs, no hits, two walks, four strikeouts.

Recap :


Tuesday : Tyler Phillips posted another strong performance, six innings, one run, five hits, three walks and four strikeouts.  Cristian Hernandez, Keylan Killgore and Brett Schulze threw an inning each to finish it.


Wednesday : Mick Abel went five plus innings, three runs, two earned.  Keylan Killgore and Tyler McKay threw scoreless innings in relief, Braden Zarbnisky went an inning and a third scoreless.


Thursday : Griff McGarry started, went three and two thirds, one run, four hits, three walks, four strikeouts.  Five pitchers followed, scoreless efforts were turned in by Matt Seelinger, Brett Schulze and Adam Leverett.


Friday : David Parkinson went six innings, four runs on six hits, one walk and nine strikeouts.  Andrew Baker stranded three inherited runners in the 8th by retiring the only batter he faced.


Saturday : Adam Leverett pitched three scores innings in relief, no hits, one walk and three strikeouts.  Keylan Killgore went one and one third scoreless, no hits, one walk.


Sunday : Tyler Phillips went five innings in his second strong start of the week, one run, three hits, two walks, six strikeouts. Brett Schulze, Keylan Killgore and Tyler McKay each threw scoreless innings.

Wednesday : Nick Ward had three hits, four players had two hits apiece, Hao Yu Lee, Gabriel Rincones Jr, Rixon Wingrove and Freylin Minyety.  Rincones Jr and Leandro Pineda each doubled.


Thursday : Freylin Minyety and Wilfredo Flores each doubled, the team had eight hits in total.


Friday : Nick Ward doubled, the team was held to five hits.


Saturday : Hao Yu Lee (single & double) and Marcus Lee Sang each had two hits (double & home run).  Leandro Pineda singled and walked twice.  Gabriel Rincones Jr delivered the walk off hit, a single.


Sunday : Jared Carr had three hits (two singles & triple), Marcus Lee Sang and Erick Brito each had two hits (single & double).  Hao Yu Lee homered.

Thursday : A bullpen game with seven pitchers appearing.  Rodolfo Sanchez, Jason Ruffcorn, Jordi Martinez and Orion Kerkering each threw scoreless frames


Friday : Gunner Mayer went five innings, one run, three hits, four walks and seven strikeouts.  The bullpen pitched scoreless baseball, Tristan Garnett, Wesley Moore and Carlos Francisco each threw perfect innings, Tommy McCollum allowed no hits and one walk in his scoreless frame, two strikeouts.


Saturday : Jordan Fowler started and went five innings, two runs - one earned, four hits, one walk and five strikeouts. Carlos Betancourt pitched an inning, one unearned run, Sam Jacobsak, Matt Russell and Jason Ruffcorn each threw a scoreless inning.


Sunday : Seven pitchers were used in the game,  Rodolfo Sanchez, Jordi Martinez and Orion Kerkering each threw scoreless frames, Martinez and Kerkering threw perfect ones.

Tuesday : Ryan Leitch hit a grand slam home run, he also singled and posted five RBIs.  Emaarion Boyd and Justin Crawford each had two hits, Crawford stole two bases giving him 30 for the season, the team stole seven bases. Bryan Rincon and Jordan Viars each doubled, Rincon also walked twice.


Wednesday : Felix Reyes and Cade Fergus each had two hits, Reyes and Troy Schreffler homered, Fergus, Caleb Ricketts and William Bergolla each doubled.


Thursday : Justin Crawford had two hits.


Friday : Ricardo Rosario and Jordan Dissin each had two hits, Rosario hit two home runs and drove in three runs, Dissin singled and homered and also drove in three runs.  Emaarion Boyd doubled and stole a base.


Saturday : Emaarion Boyd, Justin Crawford, Jordan Dissin and Bryan Rincon each had two hits.  Otto Kemp doubled, William Bergolla drew two walks as did Cole Moore.  Justin Crawford stole his 32nd base of the season.

Friday : Zach Haake started and went five innings.  Dominic Pipkin followed and pitched one and two third innings.  Konnor Ash pitched one and one third scoreless frames.  Jonh Henriquez earned his first save going two innings, one unearned run on two hits.


Saturday :  Alex McFarlane opened and went two innings, one run, one hit, three walks and two strikeouts.  Estibenzon Jimenez pitched four innings, one run, six hits, one walk and three strikeouts. Daniel Harper threw a perfect inning. Wen Hui Pan pitched the final two innings, no runs, one hit and five strikeouts earning his 3rd save of the season.


Sunday : Jonathan Petit went four innings, two runs allowed.  Seth Nightingale and Eiberson Castellano each pitched two scoreless frames.

Saturday : Anthony Quirion and Marco Soto each had two hits.  Quirion and Jorge Mendez each doubled. Chad Castillo homered. Gus Sosa singled and made his defensive debut at third base.

Thursday : Enrique Segura started and went three and one third innings, one run, one hit, one walk and five strikeouts. Eric Garcia pitched two and one third innings, one run, one hit, one walk and four strikeouts. Josh Bortka, Nicoly Pina and Luis Gomez each pitched an inning.


Saturday : Six pitchers were used in the game, scoreless efforts were turned in by Chase Webster (1 1/3 IP) and Nathan Karaffa, Guissepe Velasquez and Saul Teran who each threw an inning.
