The Phillies FCL team played their first home game this afternoon at Carpenter Complex against Tigers West, on of the two squads the Tigers are fielding.
The Phillies prevailed by a count of 9 to 4. We watched from under our shade tree down the right field line, the complex remains closed to the public indefinitely.
Erik Miller made his first game appearance of the season, he was on a pitch count and went just 2/3 of an inning but was popping the mitt in the 95-97 range … looked to be throwing without any issues.
Marcus Lee Sang reached base on a fielder’s choice ground out in the bottom of the second inning. He circled the bases on an errant pickoff throw to first base by the Tiger’s pitcher that went far down into the right field foul territory.
The Tigers scored twice in the top of the third inning, Iverson Leonardo hit his first stateside home run for them. The Phillies plated four in their half of the frame as they loaded the bases with two HBP sandwiched around a single by Jadiel Sanchez. Jamari Baylor delivered an RBI single and Mitchell Edwards singled to plate two more. Marcus Lee Sang singled to score Baylor.
Tigers West scored a solo run in the top of the fourth inning, the Phillies plated three in their half with back to back triples following a walk to Oscar Gonzalez by Edward Barboza & Kervin Pichardo. Sanchez then hit a sac fly to score Pichardo.
The Phillies scored again in the 6th inning on an error, walk, wild pitch and passed ball 😳… hey it’s rookie ball 🤓.
The Tigers scored a run in the top of the ninth.

C Mitchell Edwards had two hits and two RBIs. Edward Barboza & Kervin Pichardo each tripled.
Defensive Gem :
RF Jadiel Sanchez threw out a base runner attempting to go from first to third base on a ground ball single … very strong and accurate throw 💪.
The FCL Phillies are now 2-0 … it was Tigers West first game … they are 0-1

OF Carlos De La Cruz was in uniform … he was assigned to the FCL roster before the game.
