6/7/22 : Florida Complex League/Dominican Summer League Roundup

Florida Complex League :


The Phillies bussed over to Dunedin to play the Jays at their complex. They finished the suspended game from yesterday and then played a seven inning contest as the one scheduled.


Game One : Jays 7 ( 1-0 ) Phillies 4 ( 0-1 )


The game was suspended in the bottom of the fourth inning on Monday with the Jays leading 4-3. When play resumed today a double play ground out concluded the fourth.


The Phillies went ahead in the seventh when Freddy Francisco tripled and scored on a single by Diego Gonzalez.


The Blue Jays re-took the lead in the 8th on an RBI double by Manuel Beltre. They added two more in the ninth on a walk and three singles. Right fielder Albert Rodriguez picked up an assist when he threw out a runner at third.


On the Hill :


RH Jayden Estanista ( 20 yrs old ) threw three scoreless innings of relief allowing just one hit, no walks and striking out two batters. RH Estibenzon Jimenez took the loss as he was tagged for 3 runs on four hits and a walk in two innings of work.


At the Bat :


Albert Rodriguez ( 19 yrs old ) had two hits including a double. Felix Reyes doubled, Freddy Francisco tripled and Albert Jerez homered.


Game Two : Phillies 5 ( 1-1 ) Jays 0 ( 1-1 ) - seven innings


Four Phillies pitchers combined for a two hit shutout. RH Fernando Lozano started and pitched 4 innings allowing one hit, no walks and punching out three batters. A couple of rehab assignment hurlers followed - RH Sam Jacobsak threw a perfect frame ( two fly outs & a groundout ) and RH Albertus Barber followed for an inning allowing one walk and striking out one. LH Jared Wetherbee finished yielding a hit and a walk with two strikeouts.


The Phillies scored three runs in the third inning, Diego Gonzalez singled and scored on a triple by Jehisbert Sevilla. Jordan Viars reached on a fielders choice on which Sevilla scored. Viars moved to second on a wild pitch, to third on a single by Wendell Rijo ( rehab assignment from Reading ) and scored on a single by Yemal Flores.


Two more runs crossed in the seventh. Jordan Viars singled, went to second on a walk to Wendell Rijo and scored when Yemal Flores reached on a fielders choice and error by the Jays shortstop. Castillo scored on a ground out by Oscar Gonzalez.


Diego Gonzalez had two hits and Wendell Rijo walked twice.

Tomorrow is a camp day for the entire league.

Dominican Summer League :


Phillies White 5 ( 2-0 ) Tigers1 3 ( 1-1 )


The Phillies scored twice in the top of the first inning - Juan Villavicencio doubled and scored on a double by Ricardo Rosario. Rosario scored on a wild pitch and throwing error by the catcher.


The Tigers scored in the 5th on an error, walk and a single.

Raylin Heredia tripled in the sixth and scored on a single by Nolan Beltran which also moved Derek Escobar ( walked ) to second base. Escobar scored on a single by Erick Barria.


Samuel Rojas hit a two run double for the Tigers in the eighth.


Juan Villavicencio reached on a two base error in the ninth, stole third base and scored on a throwing error by the Tigers catcher.


Center Fielder Ricardo Rosario ( 19 yrs old ) had three hits in the game including a double and triple. Shortstop Juan Villavicencio doubled, walked and stole three bases.


On the Hill :


RH Maxwel Hernandez ( 19 yrs old ) started and pitched three innings ( 1 unearned R, 3 H, 1 BB, 7 K’s ). RH Luis Alcala went 2 2/3 scoreless innings allowing one hit while striking out three batters. RH Maikel Rosales went an inning and RH Hermes Astudillo finished with an inning of work.


Phillies White plays Tex Blue tomorrow.


Phillies Red 5 ( 2-0 ) Tex Blue 3 ( 1-1 )


Tex Blue scored twice in the first on two singles, a ground out and passed ball.


Jerffson Pena singled in the second inning, went to third on a double by Kliubert Avila and scored on a groundout by Santiago Torres.


Tex Blue scored a run in the fifth on an RBI triple by Echedry Vargas.


The Phillies scored four in the seventh - Aroon Escobar ( Ronald Acuna’s cousin ) singled and scored on a single by Marco Soto on which the Tex Blue center fielder made a throwing error. Jerffson Pena singled, Soto went to third. Soto then scored on a wild pitch. Pena later scored on another wild pitch. Jose Colmenarez walked, went to second on an error, to third on a balk and then scored on a single by Neify Rosario.


CF Jerffson Pena ( 18 yrs old ) was 3 for 5 with two runs scored. 3B Aroon Escobar ( 17 yrs old ) had two hits and scored a run.


On the Hill :


RH Luis Gomez pitched three scoreless innings ( 2 H, 0 BB, 2 K’s ) to close out the game and earn the W.


Phillies Red has a camp day tomorrow.
