6/9/23 : Minor League Roundup


International League ( AAA ) - Lehigh Valley 9 (30-28) Syracuse 6 (23-36)

Syracuse, NY - NBT Bank Stadium


Summary :


Danny Mendick homered for Syracuse in the first inning.


Jim Haley singled in the 2nd inning, Jordan Qsar walked, they both advanced on a wild pitch, Haley scored on a sac fly by John Hicks.


Weston Wilson homered in the third inning.


Vimael Machin walked in the 5th inning, Weston Wilson doubled, they both scored on long home run to right field by Darick Hall.


Jim Haley singled in the 6th inning, Jordan Qsar walked, they both scored on a home run by John Hicks.  Jake Cave singled, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sac fly by Darick Hall.


Jonathan Arauz hit a two run home run for Syracuse in the bottom of the 6th. Carlos Cortes went back to back.


Jonathan Arauz tripled for Syracuse in the 8th and scored on a sac fly.


On the Hill :


Nick Nelson started and went three innings, two runs on three hits, two walks and five strikeouts. Trey Cobb threw a scoreless frame.  Luis Ortiz pitched two innings as did Jacob Barnes.  Ben Bowden closed it out with a scoreless ninth inning.


At the Bat :


Jim Haley (two singles & double) had three hits. Three players had two hits; Darick Hall (single, HR, four RBIs), Weston Wilson ( double, HR, two runs scored) and Simon Muzziotti (two singles).   John Hicks homered and posted four RBIs.  Jordan Qsar doubled and walked twice.

Summary :


The game start was delayed by rain till around 8:30 PM


Jose Peroza homered for Binghamton in the 2nd inning.


Carlos De La Cruz delivered an RBI single in the third inning scoring Cody Roberts (walked).


The game went into extra innings tied at one.


Nick Podkul was the placed runner in the bottom of the 10th, he advanced to third on a single by McCarthy Tatum. Carlos De La Cruz singled to score Podkul with the game winner!


On the Hill :


Mick Abel pitched very well, five innings, one run, one hit, three walks, five strikeouts.  Cristian Hernandez pitched two scoreless, one hit, one walk, two strikeouts.  Keylan Killgore went two thirds of an inning.  Tyler McKay seven of the eight batters he faced, five by strikeout 👀.


Defensive Gem :


Johan Rojas ran down a long drive to left center field to end the 10th inning, stellar play!


At the Bat :


Carlos De La Cruz had three hits, McCarthy Tatum and  Matt Kroon each had two hits.

Lakewood, NJ - ShoreTown Ballpark


Summary :


Nick Ward was hit by a pitch leading off the bottom of the first, he scored on a triple by Marcus Lee Sang.  Andrik Nava hit a sac fly to score Lee Sang.


Rixon Wingrove singled in the third and scored on a double by Andrik Nava.


Two singles and a double scored a run for Hudson Valley in the fourth.


A single and RBI triple (Grant Richardson) scored a sixth inning run for HV, a sac fly then scored Richardson.


The game went into extra innings tied at three.


Hudson Valley scored the placed runner in the 10th with a ground out and single. Another single and walk loaded the bases.  Three more runs scored on a fielding error and mental miscue (Tristan Garnett thought time had been called and flipped the ball out of play, the umpires advanced the runners two bases).  Another run scored on a single.


Andrik Nava singled to score the placed runner in the bottom of the 10th.


On the Hill :


Gunner Mayer started and threw the ball well, five innings, one run, four hits, three walks, six strikeouts.  Jason Ruffcorn pitched an inning, Jordi Martinez went two scoreless, Matt Russell an inning and a third and Tristan Garnett two thirds of an inning.


At the Bat :


Rixon Wingrove had two hits, Andrik Nava had three hits including a double, Marcus Lee Sang tripled.

Summary :


Three singles and a double scored two runs for Fort Myers in the third inning.


Ricardo Rosario tripled in the fifth inning and scored when Emaarion Boyd reached on a fielder’s choice.


Fort Myers scored twice in the fifth inning on two singles, a double and wild pitch.


Fort Myers loaded the bases in the 6th on a single and two hit batters. A wild pitch scored a run. A walk and two singles scored another run for them in the seventh inning.


On the Hill :


Jean Cabrera started and went four and one third innings.  Eiberson Castellano made his season debut, he stranded three inherited runners in the 6th inning, he pitched two innings.  Daniel Harper made his season debut also tossing a perfect 8th inning.


At the Bat :


Ricardo Rosario tripled.  The team was held to five hits.

Summary :


Raylin Heredia tripled in the first inning and later scored on a Pedro Martinez ground out.


The Yankees scored a run in the fifth on a walk followed by an RBI double by Willy Montero.


Matt Alifano doubled to score Dakota Kotowski (reached on a fielders choice) in the sixth.


Diego Gonzalez reached on a fielding error in the 7th and Jorge Mendez reached on a throwing error, Gonzalez scored on a scorched double over the center fielder’s head by Raylin Heredia which also sent Mendez to third base.  Mendez later scored on a wild pitch.


The Yankees scored a run in the 8th on a single, double & ground out.


On the Hill :


Zach Haake started and pitched four scoreless innings, three hits, two walks and three strikeouts.  Jose Peña Jr had another strong outing, three IP, one run, two hits, one walk and four strikeouts.  Saul Teran and Luis Gomez each pitched an inning, both in their attack the zone style, Teran earned a hold and Gomez a save.


Defensive Gem :


Center fielder Santiago Torres made a great over the shoulder running catch to deep on the track to end the 7th inning, he made a diving catch to rob a hit earlier in the game, yet another slick and quick outfielder!


At the Bat :


Raylin Heredia had two hits (double & triple), scored a run and drove in another.  Matt Alifano had two hits (single & double) and Diego Gonzalez doubled.




Dominican Summer League


Phillies Red 2 (2-2) Phillies White 0 (3-1) - seven innings

@ Phillies Academy


Summary :


Phillies Red scored twice in the second inning, Manolfi Jimenez singled, Jaeden Calderon doubled to score Jimenez.  Esterling Rodriquez singled to send Calderon to third, Jaeden later scored on a wild pitch.


On the Hill :


Six pitchers threw scoreless baseball, Luis Gonzalez (4 IP), Edwar Chirinos (2 IP) and Luis Alcala (1 IP) for Phillies Red and Cristian Diaz (1 2/3 IP) and John Sosa (1 IP) for Phillies White, Alexis De La Cruz started and went three and one third innings for Team White, he yielded the game’s only runs.


At the Bat :


Jaeden Calderon had the only extra base hit of the game, a double.  Phillies White had just two hits total while Phillies Red were limited to five hits.



System Transactions :


Lehigh Valley : RHP Connor Brogdon optioned from Phillies.  RHP Nick Nelson activated from seven day IL.


Jersey Shore : RHP Cam Wynne activated.


Clearwater :  RHP Eiberson Castellano has been transferred from the FCL Phillies to the Clearwater Threshers.  RHP Daniel Harper has been reinstated from the seven-day injured list.   RHP Eduar Segovia has been placed on the seven-day injured list.


Player Development Center :


Elicier Bata, Drew Garrett, Francisco Morales, Micah Ottenbreit and Dominic Pipkin each threw live bullpen sessions today facing Baron Radcliff, Troy Schreffler and Nikau Pouaka-Grego as hitters.  Ottenbreit and Pipken did an up-down with a total of about 30 pitches each.
