7/13/21 : Phillies 17th Round Draft Pick

The Phillies selected Alex Garbick, a RHP from the University of South Carolina Upstate in the 17th round of the draft today.

Here’s a bit about him. He’s from Mill Hall, Pa.

Garbrick started his college career at Morehead State and graduated from the Kentucky school last May. He later announced he would continue his education and baseball career at the University of South Carolina Upstate.

Garbrick was a standout on the Keystone Little League 2011 World Series team and had an outstanding high school career at Central Mountain.

Garbrick had been drafted by the New York Yankees in the 40th round in the MLB draft in June of 2019 but elected to return to Morehead State.

PRIOR TO MOREHEAD STATE : Perfect Game has him ranked as the 11th best pitcher in the state of Pennsylvania, and he is in the top 500 nationally and a 2015 Underclass High Honorable Mention on the outfit's prospect list ... He is also the 23rd best hurler in his state, according to Prep Baseball Report ... Played in the 2011 Little League World Series, struck out 19 in 16 innings as a junior in 2015 and limited opponents to a .152 batting average ... Teamed with fellow signee Dom Masullo on the Flood City Elite travel ball team ... Was named Second-Team All-Conference last year on the basketball court ... In class, he was named to the High Honor Roll each year.
