Spotlight Hitters of the week :
Twenty-two year old outfielder Avery Owusu-Asiedu (Jersey Shore) went 8 for 18 (.444) during the week. In the month of July he’s hitting .385 (15 for 39) and has a .467 OBP in 44 plate appearances. Avery was promoted from Clearwater on 6/24/25 and was the Phillies 9th round draft selection in the 2023 draft from Southern Illinois-Edwardsville. A little known fact about him is that he’s the fastest runner in the organization. He has power bat potential (6 HR’s this season) at 6’4” 230. On the season he’s hitting .280 with a .386 OBP in 286 plate appearances.
Eighteen year old third baseman Francisco Loreto (FCL Phillies) went 6 for 16 (.375) with a double and two home runs during the week. He posted five RBIs. Francisco’s season numbers aren’t eye catching but for those of us who’ve watched him the hitting tool potential is evident. Quick hands, high bat speed and the ability to drive the baseball playing stateside as a teenager who just turned 18 on 6/21. He’s from Maracay, Venezuela and has hit 5 home runs on the expansive backfields this season, there’s a good projectable path for this young man. Defense has been a struggle as he’s playing third base for the first time (was signed as a catcher) but is a name to put in the memory bank for future development.
Spotlight Pitchers of the Week :
RH Braydon Tucker (Jersey Shore) pitched seven scoreless innings on Saturday allowing just two hits and no walks. In his last two starts he’s pitched 13 scoreless innings with no walks, allowing just five hits while striking out thirteen batters. Braydon is 25 years old and was signed on 7/19/23 as an un-drafted free agent from Lipscomb University.
RH Mick Abel (Lehigh Valley) pitched six scoreless innings on Thursday allowing just one hit (had a no hitter thru five innings) and one walk while striking out four batters. He threw 67 pitches - 47 for strikes (70%) and reached 98 mph while averaging 96 mph with his four seamer. He used his slider more (13 pitches) then he was in the big leagues while also throwing his curveball (9 pitches) as an offset to the heat.
RH Alex McFarlane (Jersey Shore) continued his recent stretch of pitching dominance. He threw five scoreless innings (three hits) with no walks on Thursday. Over his last three starts (6/25, 7/2, 7/10) he’s pitched 15 scoreless innings allowing just three hits and three walks while striking out 19 batters. Alex was the Phillies 4th round draft selection in the 2022 draft from the University of Miami. Since shifting on the rubber towards third base to create more deception and help his direction towards the plate he’s excelled with a power (upper nineties heat) arsenal.
