According to Baseball America three UDFA’s (undrafted free agents) have already committed to signing with the Phillies. They will need to pass physicals before officially inking contracts.
3B/1B Cade Climie (6’2”, 225 lbs) played for the University of Houston. The 22 year old is from Sugar Land, Texas where he graduated from Seven Lakes HS. Prior to attending Houston he played at Blinn College (Juco national Champs the year he played there) and Temple College - both in Texas. In his two seasons at Houston he posted a .300/.420/.594 slash line and a 1.013 OPS in 90 games (348 PA’s) with 22 doubles and 19 home runs. Climie has been playing for Trenton in the MLB Draft League this season appearing in 25 games - he played for State College in the Draft League in 2023 and 2024. In his college profile he lists McDonalds as the one food he could eat for the rest of his life - my kind of guy!
RHP Elias Holbert is 23 years old and is from Sherwood, Oregon where he graduated from Sherwood HS. The 6’3” 240 pound hurler was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He played two season at Everett Community College before transferring to Coastal Carolina where he redshirted - only appeared in two 2024 games there. In 2026 he transferred and played for Virginia Commonwealth University where he posted a 2.86 ERA in 18 games (nine starts) over 66 IP with 75 K’s and 13 walks. He uses a three pitch mix - FB (92-94 mph), slider and changeup from a high three quarter arm slot.
Tyler Minnick is 21 years old and is from Smyrna, Georgia where he graduated from Mount Paran Christian School. He’s 6’3” and weighs in at 227 pounds. He was rated as the #2 catcher in the state of Georgia in 2023 , was a member of the 2021 state championship team. He played in 43 games at Georgia Tech in 2023 and 2024 before transferring to Middle Tennessee State where he played the last two seasons appearing in 111 games, he hit .298/.398/.518 in his senior year this season with a .917 OPS clubbing 18 doubles and 10 home runs. He also can play first base. Also won the Conference USA Spirit of Service Award for significant community endeavors primarily working with the Special Olympics. Minnick was also named the Conference scholar athlete of the year this past season for baseball. He was the Middle Tennessee State team captain, noted for leadership skills.
