7/18/23 : DSL No-Hitter!

For the second time this month the Dominican Summer League Phillies White team has pitched a seven inning no hitter!  Today RH Alexis De La Cruz and LH Kleyderve Andrade combined on a 1-0 no-no victory against the Nationals.  De La Cruz went four innings and Andrade the final three.

The only run in the game scored in the first inning, Starlyn Caba singled, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a throwing error on which Angel Mata reached base.

In my 7/10 Dominican spotlight article Phillies Lower Level Pitching Coordinator Vic Diaz stated that eighteen year old 6’6”  Alexis De La Cruz has a “big frame with some good stuff. Fastball up to 95 mph. He’s a starter who’s impressed.”  In regards to the 20 year old LH Andrade in that same article Phillies Minor League Pitching Coordinator Travis Hergert informed us that  Kleyderve Andrade “features a good fastball up to 94 mph. A similar delivery and build to Jersey Shore’s Jordi Martinez.”  Coach Diaz remarked that Andrade is a “go to reliever”.   Today they combined to strike out ten batters (five each) however did issue six walks (De La Cruz - five, Andrade - one).

On 7/8/23 right hand pitchers  Maxwell Hernandez and Cristian Diaz combined for a 6-1 seven inning victory and no hitter against the Giants Black team.  Hernandez went five innings, one unearned run, three walks and three strikeouts. Diaz finished going two innings, one walk, five strikeouts.

The Phillies White team is now 23-6 on the season and in first place in the south division.  They are the defending league champions.

Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
