7/19/23 : Minor League Roundup


International League ( AAA ) -  Lehigh Valley 5 (10-6, 46-43) Toledo 1 (6-11, 39-52)

Toledo, OH - Fifth Third Field


Summary :


Weston Wilson homered to lead off the game, his 22nd of the season.


Nick Podkul singled in the second inning, he scored on a home run by Jim Haley.


Parker Meadows homered for Toledo in the third inning.


Nick Podkul hit a home run in the fourth inning.  Aramis Garcia homered in the fifth inning.


On the Hill :


Nick Nelson was very good, he went seven innings, one run, six hits, three walks, five strikeouts.  In his four July appearances Nick has pitched 18 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on fourteen hits with eight walks and fifteen strikeouts - he’s posted a 1.96 ERA for the month.  Jesus Cruz pitched a scoreless inning, no hits, one walk, one strikeout.  Tyler McKay finished it with a scoreless ninth inning, one hit allowed.


At the Bat :


Weston Wilson had three hits (two singles & HR) and Nick Podkul had two hits, the IronPigs hit four home runs - Weston Wilson, Jim Haley, Nick Podkul and Aramis Garcia.  Jake Cave singled and walked twice.

Summary :


Ethan Wilson homered in the second inning, Casey Martin singled and Max McDowell hit a two run home run.


Matt Kroon tripled in the third inning and then scored on an errant pickoff throw.


A single, ground out and single sequence scored a run for Altoona in the bottom of the third.


Matt Kroon homered to lead off the sixth. Ethan Wilson was hit by a pitch, advanced to second on a single by Casey Martin and scored on a single by Max McDowell.


Ethan Wilson singled in the 8th inning and scored on a home run by Casey Martin.


Claudio Finol hit a home run for Altoona in the ninth.


On the Hill :


Tyler Phillips went five and one third innings, one run, five hits, one walk, six strikeouts.  Braden Zarbnisky pitched one and two thirds scoreless innings, Orion Kerkering threw a scoreless frame and Matt Seelinger finished with an inning of work, one run allowed.


At the Bat :


Casey Martin had a three hit day (two singles and a HR) two RBIs and two runs scored.  Matt Kroon (triple & HR), Ethan Wilson, Baron Radcliff and Max McDowell each had two hits.  Wilson and McDowell homered, Radcliff doubled.  McDowell had three RBIs.

Summary :


Winston Salem scored twice in the first inning, one on a home run by Tim Elko.


The BlueClaws plated seven runs in the third inning, Arturo DeFreitas and Hao Yu Lee singled and Rixon Wingrove was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Nick Ward singled to drive in two runs.  Leandro Pineda singled to score a run.  Erick Brito singled to score a run.  Jared Carr hit a three run home run.


Two singles and a passed ball on a strikeout scored a WS run in the fourth inning.


Winston Salem scored five runs in the 8th inning on four walks, two singles and a double.


On the Hill :


Six pitchers were used in the game.  Carlos Betancourt pitched two innings, one unearned run, three hits, one walk, four strikeouts.  Jason Ruffcorn pitched a scoreless inning and Cam Wynne a perfect inning.


At the Bat :


Nick Ward had three hits and two RBIs. Arturo DeFreitas had two hits.  Rixon Wingrove doubled, Jared Carr hit a three run home run.

“Ward on a Roll - Nick Ward is 22-71 (.310) since June 20th with two doubles and two home runs.  He had the game-tying two-run single on an 0-2 pitch with two outs in the ninth inning on Saturday night. Summary :


Tampa scored two first inning runs on three walks and two sac flys.


Ricardo Rosario was hit by a pitch in the first inning, stole second and scored on a double by Felix Reyes.  Jordan Dissin singled and both he and Reyes scored on a three run home run by Chad Castillo.


Tampa scored three second inning runs, two on a home run by Ronny Rojas.


Troy Schreffler homered in the bottom of the second.


Matt Alifano singled in the fourth inning, moved to second when Troy Schreffler walked and scored on a single by Felix Reyes.


A single and four walks scored two Tampa runs in the fifth inning.


Jordan Viars doubled in the sixth inning and scored on a single by Felix Reyes.


Cade Fergus was hit by a pitch in the seventh, stole second and scored on a single by Matt Alifano.


On the Hill :


Four pitchers were used.  Josh Bortka pitched three and a third scoreless innings, no hits, one walk, six strikeouts.  Braeden Fausnaught earned his first professional save by retiring the only two batters he faced to close the game, one by strikeout, he stranded two inherited runners.


At the Bat :


Felix Reyes had three hits (two singles and a double) and three RBIs, the big fella now has 43 RBIs in 41 games (151 AB’s).  Matt Alifano had two hits and a walk.  Jordan Viars doubled, Chad Castillo and Troy Schreffler homered, Castillo had three RBIs.



Florida Complex League - Camp Day


Dominican Summer League :


Phillies Red 9 (17-13) Mets Blue 2 (14-17) - seven innings

@ Mets Training Complex


Summary :


The Mets scored a first inning run on a single, walk and double.


Eduardo Tait and Manolfi Jiménez walked in the bottom of the first, they both scored on a double by Alirio Ferrebus.


Jaeden Calderon singled in the second inning, Fernando Hernandez walked, they advanced a base on a wild pitch, Calderon scored on a single by  Jose Leanez, Hernandez scored on a second wild pitch.  Leanez stole second base and later scored on a fielding error.


A single and doubled scored a Mets run in the third inning.


Manolfi Jiménez doubled in the bottom of the third, Alirio Ferrebus was hit by a pitch, they both scored on a home run by Renair Manrique.


The Phillies loaded the bases in the 5th on two hit batters and a walk, a run scored on a sac fly by Jose Leanez.


A single, triple and wild pitch scored two runs for the Mets in the seventh.


On the Hill :


Edwar Chirinos pitched five innings, two runs, six hits, two walks, eight strikeouts.  Naoel Mejia pitched the final two frames, two runs, two hits, no walks, five strikeouts.


At the Bat :


Alirio Ferrebus and Manolfi Jiménez each doubled.  Renair Manrique homered.  Ferrebus and Jose Leanez each had two RBIs, Manrique had three RBIs.



Rockies 3 (17-13) Phillies White 1 (23-7) - seven innings

@ Phillies Training Complex


Summary :


Starlyn Caba singled in the third inning, stole second base and scored on a single by Yemil Rosario.


A walk, single, double and sac fly scored three runs for the Rockies in the fifth inning.


On the Hill :


Eliecer Bata started and pitched three innings, no runs, no hits, one walk and four strikeouts.  Cristian Diaz was tagged for three runs in two innings.  Eduardo Fernandez pitched a scoreless inning.


At the Bat :


Starlyn Caba had two hits (single & triple).



Player Development Center Training - Carpenter Complex


  • Multiple new draft selections and free agent signings worked today in the weight training center, on the fields and in the class room.  Ethan Chenault, Hunter Loyd, Casey Steward, Marty Gair, Luke Russo, Cam Brown, Chase Hopewell, Jake Eddington, George Klassen, Brayden Tucker, Keaton Anthony, Zach Arnold, A.J. Shaver, Jared Thomas, Lou Albrecht, Kehden Hettinger, Devin Saltiban, Trent Farquhar, Bryson Ware and Avery Owusu-Asiedu are at the complex, others are arriving later today and will join in tomorrow.
