Spotlight Hitters of the week :

Catcher Paul McIntosh (Reading) was 7 for 12 (.583) with four doubles, a home run and four RBIs in three games played this week. The twenty-seven year old catcher was acquired from the Miami Marlins in the Jesus Luzardo/Starlyn Caba/Emaarion Boyd trade. He played collegiate baseball for West Virginia and was the 34th round pick of the Angels in the 2018 draft but passed on signing and was ultimately signed by Miami in 2021 as an un-drafted free agent. Whenever I’ve seen Paul play he’s consistently hit the baseball hard, he’s a very strong young man who can drive the ball out of the yard.  Paul has spent the majority of this season with Reading - he was on the injured list in late April and played three games with Jersey Shore in a rehab assignment. At Reading he’s played in 37 games (141 PA’s) with 8 doubles, 6 home runs and 25 RBIs posting a .306/.383/.516 slash line and an .899 OPS. He’s caught 26 games for Reading with his other 12 games serving as the DH. Paul has had a very strong month of July posting a .467/.543/.733 slash line and an 1.276 OPS in 35 plate appearances.

Catcher Anderson Araujo (DSL Phillies Red) went 5 for 13 (.385) during the week. The seventeen year old was signed on 1/15/25 from Barquisimeto, Venezuela and he’s had a very solid first professional season.  Anderson was selected to the DSL National League All-Star team. For the year he’s posted a .268/.368/.557 slash line and a .925 OPS in 114 plate appearances with 5 doubles, 7 home runs and 17 RBIs. He’s drawn 13 walks and has stolen 8 bases. Defensively he’s caught 15 games and played 13 at first base, behind the dish he’s thrown out 11 of 42 (26 %) base stealers. When I’ve watched the video feeds of DSL games and he’s catching what stands out is his passion to encourage his pitchers, a take charge approach and a vocal leadership.

Spotlight Pitchers of the Week :

RH Chuck King (Reading) “turned in another stellar start on Friday night, not allowing a run over five innings of work. Over three July starts, King is 2-0, with a 1.10 ERA (2 ER, 16.1 IP). He had gone 6+ in six of those and has five quality starts over that stretch. Since May 22, King is eighth in the Eastern League in ERA (3.04), 1st in innings pitched (56.1) and tied for fourth in wins (4).” - Jake Starr - Reading Director of PR/Media Relations, Client Fulfillment & Broadcaster
