7/22/23 : Minor League Roundup


International League ( AAA ) - Lehigh Valley 7 (12-7, 48-44) Toledo 5 (7-13, 40-54) - seven innings

Toledo, OH - Fifth Third Field


Summary :


The start of the game was delayed two hours due to weather.  It began at 9:05 PM and per MLB rule for minor league games starting after 9 PM it converted to a seven inning game rather than the previously schedule nine inning affair.


In the first inning Simon Muzziotti and Darick Hall singled, Kody Clemens hit a three run home run.


Toledo scored a run in the third inning on a walk and two singles.


John Valente tripled for Toledo in the fifth inning, he scored on a single by Colt Keith.


Kody Clemens was hit by a pitch to start the sixth, Rafael Marchan singled and Jordan Qsar walked to load the bases. Esteban Quiroz singled to score two runs.  Cal Stevenson singled to score a run.


Rafael Marchan doubled in the seventh, Jordan Qsar walked. Esteban Quiroz singled to score Marchan.


Toledo loaded the bases with no outs on three singles in the bottom of the 7th.  With one out a walk forced in a run. A single scored two more.  A ground ball double play ended the game.


On the Hill :


Bailey Falter pitched four innings, one run,three hits, three walks, three strikeouts.  Noah Song (fastball 90-94 mph) pitched two innings, one run, two hits, one walk, three strikeouts, he threw a sinker, slider, four seamer, changeup and curve ball.


At the Bat :


Darick Hall, Rafael Marchan, Esteban Quiroz and Simon Muzziotti each had two hits, Hall also walked.  Kody Clemens hit a three run home run. Esteban Quiroz and Rafael Marchan doubled.

Nick Nelson pulled off the weird but true feat of winning back-to- back games as a starting pitcher for the IronPigs. Nelson won the July 8th game for the 'Pigs against SWB and then opened the 2nd half with six shutout innings to earn the win against Charlotte on July 14th. Eastern League ( AA) - Reading 3 (10-9, 38-49) Altoona 1 (7-10, 41-44)

Altoona, PA - Peoples Natural Gas Field


Summary :


Matt Kroon homered to lead off the game.


Jackson Glenn homere for Altoona in the bottom of the first inning.


Baron Radcliff and Max McDowell walked in the second inning, Radcliff scored on a single by Herbert Iser.


Jhailyn Ortiz singled in the 8th inning, moved to second on a groundout and scored on a single by Baron Radcliff.


Altoona loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth with one out but a nifty 6-4-3 double play ended the game including a low throw to first dug out by first baseman Jhailyn Ortiz.


On the Hill :


David Parkinson went five innings, one run, four hits, four walks, three strikeouts.  Keylan Killgore retired all five batters he faced, three by strikeout. Braden Zarbnisky pitched one and one third innings, no runs, two hits, one walk, one strikeout. Brett Schulze earned his sixth save with a scoreless ninth inning, one hit, two walks.


At the Bat :


Matt Kroon homered.  Baron Radcliff singled and walked three times.

Summary :


Leandro Pineda homered in the third inning.


Marcus Lee Sang singled and Kendall Simmons reached on a two base fielding error in the sixth inning.  Lee Sang scored on a single by Gabriel Rincones Jr.  Nick Ward hit a sac fly to score Simmons.


On the Hill :


Matt Osterberg pitched six innings, no runs, four hits, one walk, five strikeouts.  Cam Wynne threw a scoreless inning, one strikeout. Max Kuhns struck out the side in a perfect inning. Tommy McCollum finished the shutout by pitching the ninth, one hit, one strikeout.


At the Bat :


Marcus Lee Sang had two hits, Leandro Pineda homered and Rixon Wingrove doubled.

Nick Ward extended his hitting streak to seven with a single on Friday.  Coming into tonight’s action he had eight hits in the last three days and is 13-27 on his current hitting streak, plus 30-84 (.357) since June 20th with four doubles and two home runs. Summary :


The Yankees scored two runs in the third inning on two walks and two singles.


Dakota Kotowski hit his 11th home run of the season in the fourth inning.


Yhoswar Garcia singled in the eighth, an errant throw on a pickoff attempt allowed him to move to second, a wild pitch moved him to third and a balk scored him.   Dakota Kotowski walked and went to third on a double by Jorge Mendez.  Marco Soto hit a sac fly to score Kotowski.


On the Hill :


Christian McGowen made his first game appearance since April 17th of 2022.  Christian is returning from TJ surgery and threw the baseball very well today - two perfect innings with one strikeout, the only hard hit ball was a drive to right center field that fleet footed center fielder Santiago Torres ran down.  His fastball range was 95 to 97 mph offset by a slider in the 84 to 88 mph range - good stuff!    Daniel Mejia went four innings, two runs, three hits, three walks, two strikeouts.  Javier Fuenmayor pitched two scoreless innings, four hits, one strikeout. Luis Gomez finished it with a scoreless ninth inning, one hit allowed - first baseman Dakota Kotowski made a diving stop on a hard grounder, get up and step on the bag to end the game.


At the Bat :


Marco Soto and Jorge Mendez doubled, Dakota Kotowski hit his 11th home run of the season.



Dominican Summer League :


Giants Black 8 (19-14) Phillies Red 3 (18-15) - seven innings

@ Giants Training Complex.


Summary :


The Giants scored three in the first on a strikeout/wild pitch, fielding error and two doubles.


Alirio Ferrebus walked in the second inning and went to third on a double by Jaeden Calderon.  Ferrebus scored on a ground out by Renair Manrique.


A hit batter and throwing error allowed a Giants run to score in the third inning.


Four walks and a triple by Eduardo Montero scored four runs for the Giants in the 5th inning.


Eduardo Tait hit his 3rd home run of the season in the 6th inning.


Esterling Rodriquez doubled in the seventh and scored on a single by Yonkelvin Polanco - he’s a 17 year old just activated on the roster who singles in his first professional AB.


On the Hill :


Three pitchers were used.  Juan Melendez pitched an inning and a third scoreless, one hit, two strikeouts.


At the Bat :


Eduardo Tait had two hits (single & HR) as did Jaeden Calderon (single & double).



Phillies White 3 (25-8) Giants Orange 2 (18-15) - seven innings

@ Phillies Training Complex


Summary :


The Giants scored twice in the 4th inning on a double, two singles and two sac flys.


Jarol Martinez singled in the fifth, stole second and scored on a single by Starlyn Caba.


The Phillies won in walk off fashion by scoring two runs in the seventh - Guillermo Rosario singled, Andres Taberas pinch ran for him.  Jarol Martinez singled sending Taberas to third base.  Martinez stole second base, an intentional walk to Starlyn Caba then loaded the bases.  Leny Carela singled to score both Taberas and Martinez!


On the Hill :


Angel Liranzo started and went four innings, two runs, four hits, no walks, five strikeouts.  Pedro Reyes pitched a perfect inning, one strikeout.  Carlos Millan pitched two innings, no runs, one hit, no walks, three strikeouts.


At the Bat :


Starlyn Caba and Jarol Martinez each had two hits.



Player Development Center Training - Carpenter Complex


Watched Trent Farquhar, Pierce Bennett (both at 2B) , Aidan Miller, Devin Saltiban (both at SS) and Bryson Ware (3B) take infield grounders on Ashburn Field this morning.  First impression of Miller is how powerfully built his legs are, very strong foundation.


System Transactions :


Lehigh Valley : RHP Francisco Morales released


Reading : Reinstated LHP David Parkinson from the Development List.  Reinstated RHP Max Kuhns from the Development List and transferred him to Jersey Shore


Jersey Shore : LHP Rafael Marcano placed on Development List


Clearwater : Placed RHP Oswald Medina on the seven-day injured list


FCL Phillies :  Added RHP Christian McGowan (High-A Jersey Shore 60-day IL) beginning a minor league rehab assignment


 Dominican Summer League Red - OF Yonkelvin Polanco added to the roster

 

Dominican Summer League White - RHP Josbel Garcia added to the roster (from DSL Red)

 

Officially signed to minor league contracts : OF/INF Pierce Bennett (20th; Wake Forest) and C Lou Albrecht (NDFA; Central Arizona Col)
