7/24/2020 : Around the Horn - Game Results


Here’s a look at highlights from the MLB games played not involving our Phillies ... if ya all like the format I’ll try to keep up with it throughout the season.


Mets 1 Braves 0


A pitcher’s duel as Jacob deGrom ( 5 IP ) and Mike Soroka ( 6 IP ) matched goose eggs as starters ... deGrom gave up only one hit and had eight K’s 


Yoenis Cespedes became the first DH in National League history to hit a home run in a non inter league game ... 


Ender Inciarte made two excellent catches in CF for the Braves ... one a leaping catch over the wall to rob a home run 


Seth Lugo and Edwin Diaz finished the shutout for the Mets 


Reds 7 Tigers 1


Reds RHP Sonny Gray went 6 innings allowing just three hits and three relievers combined to pitch no hit baseball behind him enroute to the win.  Joey Votto and Mike Moustakas each homered for the Reds ... Votto hit a rare dinger against a left-hander ... Moustakas had three hits 


Jays 6 Rays 4 


Rays starter Charlie Morton was tagged for six runs in 4 IP ... three Tampa relievers pitched shutout ball thereafter.   Cavan Biggio had a big day for the Jays including a three run home run - he had two hits and scored twice - Biggio kneeled before the game in unity with locker neighbor Anthony Alford who was hesitant to do so alone - Biggio had a big day more than just in the game 


Indians 2 Royals 0 


Indians starter RHP Shane Bieber struck out 14 batters in six shutout frames allowing just 4 hits and a walk ... three relievers pitched no hit baseball behind him.   Ex Phillie Cesar Hernandez had a double and an RBI for Cleveland ... Maikel Franco was 0-4 with three K’s for the Royals 


Cubs 3 Brewers 0 


Cubs RHP Kyle Hendricks threw the first complete game shutout of the season allowing just three hits while striking out nine batters ... he threw 103 pitches - 74 strikes 😳


Ian Happ gave him all the runs he would need with a two run home run in the third inning.

First Baseman Anthony Rizzo hit a solo home run and wins the hygiene award of the day - he passed out hand sanitizer to the few Brewers baserunners who reached first base 😂


Red Sox 13 Orioles 2


The Red Sox pounded out 17 hits led by second baseman Jose Peraza who went 4 for 5 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored.  JD Martinez had three hits and three RBIs 


RHP Nathan Eovaldi picked up the win by tossing six innings of one run ball.


Rangers 1 Rockies 0


Rangers RHP Lance Lynn went six innings allowing two hits and 4 walks while striking out nine batters ... three relievers followed with one hit ball


Second baseman Ranger Odor knocked in the game’s only run with an RBI double.


Rockies center fielder David Dahl had three hits out of the leadoff spot


Twins 10 White Sox 5 


Twins leadoff hitter Max Kepler hit two home runs in his first two at bats to set the stage for the Twins eleven hit attack.  Five Minnesota hitters had two hit games.


White Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada had a three hit game 


A total of 13 pitchers were used in the contest - 8 by Chicago and 5 by Minnesota 


Cardinals 5 Pirates 4


Cardinals RHP Jack Flaherty went 7 strong innings allowing two runs on six hits ... the Cardinals used the long ball with three home runs ( Dexter Fowler, Tyler O’Neill and Paul DeJong ) to power to the victory. 


Pirates third baseman Colin Moran led their offense with two hits including a double.


If ya get a chance to read Cards RHP Adam Wainwright’s posting on Twitter regarding unity and equality it’s well worth it 


Astros 8 Mariners 2


Astros RHP Justin Verlander went six innings allowing two runs on three hits while striking out seven batters.   


Left fielder Michael Brantley hit a three run home run in the 5th inning and had two hits in the game.


Mariners center fielder Kyle Lewis homered ... Ex Phillies shortstop JP Crawford was 0-2 with a walk


Padres 7 Diamondbacks 2 


Padres RHP Chris Paddack tossed six shutout frames allowing just four hits and a walk.  


First Baseman Eric Hosmer had three hits and six RBIs for the Padres - he hit two doubles


Kole Calhoun homered for Arizona 


D-Backs starter LHP Madison Bumgarner yielded three runs on four hits and three walks in 5 2/3 IP 

Dodgers 9 Giants 1


Dodgers starter RHP Ross Stripling went seven innings yielding one run on 4 hits and no walks while striking out seven batters 


LA first baseman Max Muncy hit two home runs, had three hits  and scored three runs ... shortstop Corey Seager also had three hits for the Dodgers 


A’s 7 Angels 3 


Oakland first baseman Matt Olson hit a grand slam home run in the bottom of the 10th inning against ex Phillie LHP Hoby Milner for the win 😳 ... Olson had two hits in the game 


A’s center fielder Ramon Laureano also had two hits including a solo home run.


Angels Catcher Jason Castro hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to tie the score and eventually send the contest into extra innings 


Fifteen hurlers pitched in the game ( 8 for the Angels and 7 for the A’s )
