7/25/2020 : 2020 Phillies - Game Two

“Any cardboard cutout can go to Opening Day. The second game of the season is when the diehard cardboard cutouts show up.” - Anthony Castrovince 🤓

Phillies 7 Marlins 1

Didi Gregorius smoked a looooong home run deep into the right field seats to give the Phillies a 1-0 lead as he led off the bottom of the first inning. The Phillies loaded the bases on walks but all three runners were stranded when Bryce Harper struck out to end the inning ... 1-0 Phillies after two innings played.

Marlins starter Caleb Smith struggled with control ( 6 walks ) in his three innings pitched but yet gave up just one run on one hit ... he threw 70 pitches - only 36 for strikes.

Miami scored in the fifth inning as Brian Anderson walked, went to second on a single by Garrett Cooper and scored on a single by Miguel Rojas.

Phil “Barrells” Gosselin hit a two run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to score Scott Kingery ( walked ) ahead of him.

Zach Wheeler pitched extremely well in his Phillies debut going seven innings allowing just one run on five hits and two walks ... he struck out four batters and consistently popped the mitt in the upper nineties.

JT Realmuto hit a three run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning over the center field wall scoring Rhys Hoskins ( walked ) and Bryce Harper ( bunt single ) in front of him.

Tommy Hunter tossed a scoreless eighth inning

Phil “Barrels” Gosselin went yard to right field in the bottom of the eighth inning ... his second of the day!

Deolis Guerra tossed a perfect ninth inning striking out two batters.

Record is now 1-1

Other Notes :

Marlins RHP Nick Niedert ( 2 1/3 IP, 0 R, 1 H ) and LHP Alex Vesia made their major league debuts in the game in relief. Vesia gave up a two run dinger.

Phil “Barrels” Gosselin had three hits ( two taters ) , a walk and three RBIs ... his last major league home run was on 4/1/2018 against Sean Doolittle of the Nationals ( 9th inn, 1 on, 2 outs to CF)

Rhys Hoskins had three walks - perfect get on base top of the order hitter eh 😎

Bryce Harper beat the shift in the seventh inning by dropping a bunt down the third base line - his first hit of the season - he also walked twice

Web Gems :

Andrew McCutchen made a nice running and sliding catch down the left field line in the seventh inning to rob a double.

Didi Gregorius had a hard hit ball knock him backwards in the top of the 8th inning but he fielded and threw from his backside to second baseman Scott Kingery to get a force out and end the inning !

Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
