7/25/23 : Minor League Roundup


International League ( AAA ) - Syracuse 10 (7-14, 40-55) Lehigh Valley 3 (13-8, 49-45) - six innings

Allentown, PA - Coca-Cola Park


Summary : 11 AM start


Luke Voigt hit a three run home run for Syracuse in the first inning.  Tomas Nido hit a two run home run for them in the second inning.  Carlos Cortez hit a two run home run for them in the third inning.   They added two more in the fifth on three walks and two singles.


Left fielder Kody Clemens homered in the bottom of the fifth. Dustin Peterson went back to back.


Four walks scored a Syracuse run in the sixth.


Weston Wilson homered to lead off the bottom of the sixth.


The game went into rain delay with one out in the bottom of the sixth.  It was eventually called.


On the Hill :


Rough go today for Nick Nelson - eight runs, nine hits in four plus innings of work.


At the Bat :


Scott Kingery doubled, Weston Wilson, Kody Clemens and Dustin Peterson homered.

Summary : Noon start


The two teams played a scoreless first inning before the game went into rain delay before the second frame began.  Play resumed about an hour later.   They played the top of the second and one out in the bottom of the frame before going into rain delay again.


The game was eventually suspended.

Summary :


Emaarion Boyd singled in the first inning, stole second base, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a sac fly by Felix Reyes.


A walk and double scored a run for Jupiter in the bottom of the first inning.


Cade Fergus doubled in the third inning and scored on a double by Justin Crawford.


Cade Fergus homered in the fifth inning.


An error, walk and double scored two Jupiter runs in the sixth inning.


Chad Castillo walked in the seventh inning, Cade Fergus doubled to send him to third, Emaarion Boyd singled to score them both.


Jupiter scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh on a walk, three singles and a triple.  They scored a run in the eighth on two singles and a wild pitch.


On the Hill :


Giussepe Velasquez went four innings in his Threshers debut, one run, three hits, one walk, four strikeouts.  Nate Karaffa went an inning and two thirds, two runs - one earned, two hits, two walks, one strikeout. Daniel Harper pitched an inning and a third and Seth Nightingale an inning.


At the Bat :


Cade Fergus had a night (two doubles and a HR, three runs scored).  Emaarion Boyd had two hits, two RBIs and two stolen bases (43 on the season). Bryan Rincon also had two hits.  Justin Crawford doubled.

Phillies (18-16) Tigers (20-14) - Doubleheader

@ Lakeland, FL - Tigers Training Complex


Game One :  Phillies 15 Tigers 12 - eight innings


Summary :


Raylin Heredia walked to lead off the game, he was forced out at second on a ground ball by Yhoswar Garcia on which he reached.  Marco Soto singled to send Garcia to third base, he then scored on a wild pitch.  Ty Penner walked, Gus Sosa doubled to score Soto and send Penner to third.  Penner then scored on a wild pitch.


Randy Vasquez walked in the second inning and scored on a home run by Raylin Heredia.


Ezra Farmer walked in the fourth inning and scored on three wild pitches, he advanced a base on each.  Yhoswar Garcia singled, Marco Soto walked and Ty Penner was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Jackie Pertuz doubled to score two runs.


The Tigers scored three in the fourth on three singles, two walks and a ground out.  A double, two walks and a single scored a run for them in the sixth.


Gus Sosa singled in the seventh, Randy Vasquez walked.  Raylin Heredia doubled to score Sosa, Vasquez later scored on a balk. Yhoswar Garcia singled to score Heredia.


Four walks, a ground out, two singles and two doubles scored seven runs for the Tigers in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings.


In the 8th inning Marco Soto was the placed runner, Ty Penner walked and Jackie Pertuz singled to load the bases.  A throwing error allowed a run to score.  Lou Helmig walked, Ezra Farmer doubled to score two runs, a sac fly by Randy Vasquez scored another.


The Tigers scored a run in the bottom of the 8th on a fielding error and balk.


On the Hill :


Starlyn Castillo went four innings, three runs, seven hits, three walks, three strikeouts.  Luis Alcala pitched two innings, one run, three hits, two walks.


At the Bat :


Raylin Heredia (double & HR, two BB, three RBIs), Yhoswar Garcia (two singles), Jackie Pertuz (single & double) and Gus Sosa (single & double) each had two hits.  Ezra Farmer doubled.



Game Two : Tigers 4 Phillies 3


Summary :


The Tigers scored a first inning run on a triple (Samuel Gil) and a RBI ground out.


Jehisbert Sevilla singled in the third inning, Albert Rodriguez and Santiago Torres walked to load the bases. Leonardo Rondon grounded out to score a run as did Jorge Mendez.


Diego Gonzalez walked in the 4th inning, Gavin Tonkel doubled.  Gonzalez scored on a balk.


The Tigers won the game with a walk off three run home run by Samuel Gil in the bottom of the seventh.


On the Hill :


Ezequiel Ventura started and pitched three innings, one run, one hit, four walks.  Jose Peña Jr pitched three innings, no runs, one hit, three walks and five strikeouts.


At the Bat :


Gavin Tonkel doubled.  The team had five hits.



Dominican Summer League :


Phillies Red 4 (19-16) Giants Black 3 (19-16) - seven innings

@ Phillies Training Complex


Summary :


The Giants scored a first inning run on a walk, wild pitch and double.


Neify Rosario and Erick Barria singled in the third inning, Victor Cardoza singled to score a run.


Neify Rosario doubled in the 5th inning and scored on Yonkelvin Polanco’s first professional home run.


The Giants scored twice in the 6th inning on a single and three doubles. Left fielder Yonkelvin Polanco threw a runner out at the plate during the inning.


Jaeden Calderon homered in the bottom of the sixth inning.


On the Hill :


Three pitchers were used, Eduardo Robles pitched two and two third innings, no runs, no hits, one walk, one strikeout.


At the Bat :


Neify Rosario had two hits (single & double), Renair Manrique doubled and Yonkelvin Polanco and Jaeden Calderon each homered.



Phillies White 4 (27-8) Giants Orange 2 (19-16)

@ Giants Training Complex


Summary :


Yhoan Escalona doubled in the third inning and scored on a single by Starlyn Caba.  Caba went to second on a ground out, stole third and then scored on a throwing error by the catcher.


Yhoan Escalona homered in the 5th inning.


The Giants scored twice in the bottom of the 5th on two doubles and two wild pitches.


Jose Marchan doubled in the seventh inning, he stole third and scored on an errant throw by the catcher.


On the Hill :


Alexis De La Cruz went five innings, two runs, four hits, three walks, seven strikeouts.  Eduardo Fernandez pitched two scoreless frames.  Josbel Garcia finished with two innings, no runs, no hits, no walks, one strikeout.


At the Bat :


Jose Marchan and Yhoan Escalona each had two hits.  Both of Marchan’s hits were doubles, Angel Mata and Escalona also doubled. Yhoan Escalona homered.
