7/4/23 : Week Thirteen Minor League Review (6/26 to 7/3)


A shift in the work schedule this past week as games were played Wednesday thru Monday for the full season affiliates.  For the Complex league teams I am posting the week as per the usual Monday thru Sunday schedule.  The seven teams went 23-17 for the play week with the DSL Phillies White Team going a perfect 5-0.


Dakota Kotowski and Yhoswar Garcia had strong weeks offensively for the FCL Phillies. Nolan Beltran stood out with the bat for Phillies Red and Phillies pitchers had a good week in the DSL contributing to  three (Luis Alcala, Javier Fuenmayor & Ezequiel Ventura) being promoted to the FCL Phillies after Saturday’s games.


Scott Kingery had a standout week for Lehigh Valley hitting .421 with a .476 OBP while Weston Wilson hit three home runs and Jake Cave posted four dingers.  TJ Zeuch had a seven inning outing on Thursday and Andrew Bellatti continued to post zeros in two outings.  Darick Hall earned a big league promotion on Sunday.   Reading had a rough week going 1-5 against Richmond.


Jersey Shore went 3-3 and Nick Ward posted a .476 OBP in twenty plate appearances.  The bullpen continued to pitch well with multiple contributors, starters Matt Osterberg and Zach Haake had strong outings.  Clearwater continued to roll going 4-2, Emaarion Boyd stood out hitting .467 for the week, Cade Fergus hit a grand slam and Felix Reyes delivered eight RBIs.  Sam Aldegheri and Jean Cabrera had five inning outings as starters allowing no earned runs and Dominic Pipkin and Noah Song each made two rehab appearances.


AAA Level : Lehigh Valley : 3-3 for the week against Rochester, 3-3 - 2nd half, 39-40 overall - 7/4/23 @ Scranton Wilkes-Barre

Recap :


Wednesday : Darick Hall had three hits (single, double and HR), scored a run and had three RBIs.  Weston Wilson had two hits and a walks, scored once and had two RBIs.


Thursday : Jake Cave, Dustin Peterson, Jim Haley, Scott Kingery and Simon Muzziotti each had two hits.   Muzziotti, Kingery, John Hicks each doubled.  Jake Cave, Drew Ellis, Scott Kingery and Weston Wilson each homered.


Friday : Simon Muzziotti had three hits and an RBI. Scott Kingery had two hits.  Jake Cave homered, Weston Wilson tripled.  Darick Hall singled, walked and had a sac fly RBI.


Saturday : Scott Kingery homered.  Jake Cave singled and doubled.  John Hicks had two hits, a single and a walk-off two run home run.


Monday Game One  : Weston Wilson, Esteban Quiroz, Scott Kingery and Jim Haley each had two hits.  Kingery and Drew Ellis doubled.  Quiroz, Wilson, Jake Cave and Dustin Peterson homered.


Monday Game Two : Drew Ellis had two hits (single & double), Jake Cave and Weston Wilson homered.


Pitchers :


Andrew Bellatti - two appearances, two IP, no runs, one hit, two walks, two strikeouts

TJ Zeuch - seven innings, one run, five hits, two walks, five strikeouts.

Drew Hutchinson - five and two third innings, one run, five hits, two walks and four strikeouts

Bailey Falter - four innings, one run, three hits, two walks and three strikeouts


Recap :


Wednesday : Nick Nelson went six innings, five runs on eight hits.  Luis Ortiz and Andrew Bellatti threw scoreless innings in relief.


Thursday : TJ Zeuch went seven innings, one run, five hits, two walks, five strikeouts. Francisco Morales and Connor Brogdon each pitched an inning.


Friday : Drew Hutchison pitched five and two third innings, one run, five hits, two walks and four strikeouts.  Jacob Barnes went one and a third scoreless.  Trey Cobb got a double play from the one batter he faced.


Saturday : Bailey Falter went four innings, one run, three hits, two walks and three strikeouts.  Jeremy Walker threw a scoreless inning, Luis Ortiz pitched two innings, one run.  Andrew Bellatti threw a scoreless frame.


Monday Game One  : Noah Skirrow went six innings, four runs, eight hits, two walks, three strikeouts.  Jace Vines finished with a scoreless frame.


Monday Game Two : Connor Brogdon started and went two innings, one run on three hits.  Four pitchers followed, Ben Bowden went one and two thirds scoreless.



AA Level : Reading : 1-5 for the week against Richmond, 1-5 - 2nd half, 29-45 overall - 7/4/23 @ Somerset

Recap :


Wednesday : The team was held to three hits, Matt Kroon doubled.


Thursday :  Oliver Dunn had three hits.  Ethan Wilson had two hits (double & triple).  Cody Roberts had two knocks including a home run.


Friday : Matt Kroon (single & double), Nick Podkul (double & HR) and Oliver Dunn (two singles) each had two hits. Casey Martin doubled.


Saturday : Cody Roberts and Nick Podkul doubled, the team was held to four hits.


Sunday : Jhailyn Ortiz had two hits (single & double), Johan Rojas homered.


Monday : Johan Rojas had three hits (two singles and a home run).  Nick Podkul homered.


Pitchers :


Brett Schulze - two appearances, two and one third IP, no runs, one hit, one walk, four strikeouts

Andrew Schultz - two appearances, two IP, no runs, one hit, no walks, two strikeouts

Wednesday  : Andrew Schultz pitched a scoreless inning in relief and Jake Thompson threw two scoreless frames.


Thursday : Mick Abel went five innings, four relievers followed.  Carlos Francisco made his Reading debut.


Friday : Griff McGarry went five innings, two runs, four hits, two walks, seven strikeouts.  Cristian Hernandez went one and two thirds, one run.  Brett Schulze went one and a third scoreless and Tyler McKay posted his 4th save with a scoreless inning.


Saturday : David Parkinson went six innings, four runs.  Braden Zarbnisky threw two scoreless frames and Max Kuhns threw a perfect inning.


Sunday : Tyler Phillips started, five innings, three runs, five hits, one walk, five strikeouts. Three pitchers followed, Andrew Schultz threw a perfect inning, one strikeout.


Monday : Josh Hendrickson started and went four and a third, two runs on five hits and three walks.  Keylan Killgore went an inning and two thirds scoreless including stranding two inherited runners.  Brett Schulze and Carlos Francisco each threw a scoreless inning.


High A Level : Jersey Shore : 3-3 for the week against Brooklyn, 5-4 - 2nd half, 40-34 overall - 7/4/23 vs Hudson Valley

Wednesday  : Anthony Quirion, Leandro Pineda and Gabriel Rincones Jr each had two hits.  Pineda and Nick Ward each doubled.  Marcus Lee Sang homered.


Thursday :  Nick Ward and Wilfredo Flores each had two hits.


Friday : Rixon Wingrove singled and doubled, Anthony Quirion homered.


Saturday : Hao Yu Lee had three hits (two singles & double), Nick Ward had two hits (single & HR).  Erick Brito had two hits, Marcus Lee Sang doubled.  Aramis Garcia doubled and had two RBIs.


Sunday : Erick Brito had three hits (two doubles, single), scored twice and drove in two runs.  Hao Yu Lee had two hits and two RBIs.  Anthony Quirion doubled and had two RBIs.


Monday : The team was held to four hits, Gabriel Rincones Jr and Daniel Nava each doubled.

Zach Haake - five IP, no runs, four hits, one walk, six strikeouts

Tommy McCollum - three appearances, three IP, no runs, one hit, no walks, three strikeouts

Wesley Moore - three appearances, three IP, no runs, two hits, two walks, three strikeouts

Recap :


Wednesday  : Matt Osterberg had another strong outing, he was perfect thru five and one third innings and ended up going six innings, two runs on two hits, one walk and eight strikeouts.  Tommy McCollum, Wesley Moore and Orion Kerkering each threw a scoreless inning behind him, McCollum struck out two batters in a perfect frame.


Thursday : Six pitchers were used.  Carlos Betancourt went three and one third.  Tristan Garnett, Rodolfo Sanchez, Matt Russell and Jordi Martinez each pitched a scoreless inning.


Friday : Starter Gunner Mayer went one and two thirds, five relievers followed.  Jack Dallas went two and one third scoreless including stranding three inherited runners. Jason Ruffcorn, Mitch Neunborn and Tommy McCollum each pitched a scoreless frame.


Saturday : Zach Haake started and went five scoreless innings, four hits, one walk and six strikeouts. Cam Wynne pitched a perfect frame, two strikeouts.  Malik Binns, Wesley Moore and Jordi Martinez each threw an inning to complete the shutout.


Sunday : Rafael Marcano started and went four and one third innings - three runs.  Five pitchers followed, Tristan Garnett and Rodolfo Sanchez threw scoreless innings.


Monday : Six pitchers were used, Wesley Moore, Tommy McCollum and Orion Kerkering each threw a scoreless frame.


Low A Level : Clearwater : 4-2 for the week against Bradenton, 6-3 - 2nd half, 50-23 overall - 7/4/23 vs  Palm Beach


Wednesday : 8-5 Win

Thursday : 5-1 Win

Friday : 14-1 Win

Saturday : 6-3 Loss

Wednesday  : Justin Crawford had two hits (single,triple) and two RBIs. Otto Kemp doubled and Ricardo Rosario homered.


Thursday :  Troy Schreffler had two hits (single & HR).  Ricardo Rosario and Jordan Viars each doubled.


Friday : Felix Reyes hit a single, double and home run, he posted four RBIs.  Cade Fergus singled and tripled, walked twice and had two RBIs.  Emaarion Boyd had two hits and stole his 39th base of the season. Ricardo Rosario and Otto Kemp each had two hits.


Saturday : Emaarion Boyd had three hits (two singles & double) and stole his 40th base of the season.  Felix Reyes doubled.


Sunday : Ryan Leitch had three hits (two singles and a double).  Cade Fergus and Jordan Viars had two hits each.  Fergus hit a grand slam home run during an eight run eighth inning.


Monday : Justin Crawford had two hits, Emaarion Boyd doubled.  Chad Castillo homered.

Samuel Aldegheri - five innings pitched, one unearned run, five hits, three walks, six strikeouts

Jean Cabrera - five innings pitched, no runs, two hits, two walks, five strikeouts

Wednesday  : Danny Wilkinson retired all four batters he faced in relief, three by strikeout.  Noah Song, Dominic Pipkin and Daniel Harper each pitched a scoreless inning.


Thursday :  Sam Aldegheri went five innings, one unearned run, five hits, three walks, six strikeouts.  Braeden Fausnaught and Andrew Walling each pitched two scoreless frames.


Friday : Jean Cabrera went five scoreless, two hits, two walks, five strikeouts.  Konnor Ash pitched two and one third innings, one run allowed.  Jonh Henriquez closed with two perfect innings, four strikeouts.


Saturday : Estibenzon Jiménez went five innings, five runs (one earned), six hits, three walks, six strikeouts.  Noah Song pitched an inning, one run, one hit, two walks and a strikeout, he was 90 to 92 mph with the heater, also threw a curve, slider and change up. Dominic Pipkin threw a perfect frame with two strikeouts, he topped out at 98 mph on his fastball. Seth Nightingale threw a perfect inning.


Sunday : Jonathan Petit started and went five innings, four runs.  McKinley Moore pitched a scoreless inning in relief, Wen Hui Pan pitched two scoreless to notch his fourth save of the season.


Monday : Four pitchers were used, Danny Wilkinson struck out five batters in two innings, one run allowed.


Florida State League :

Thursday :  Dakota Kotowski and Yhoswar Garcia had three hits.  Raylin Heredia, Ty Penner , Jehisbert Sevilla, Pedro Martinez and Lou Helmig each had two hits.  Garcia doubled twice, Kotowski and Raylin Heredia also doubled.  Martinez and Helmig hit home runs.


Friday Game One : Raylin Heredia had three hits, a walk, stolen base and an RBI, Ty Penner and Jehisbert Sevilla each had two hits.  Penner and Sevilla doubled, Lou Helmig tripled. Yhoswar Garcia had three RBIs.


Friday Game Two : Dakota Kotowski, Jackie Pertuz and Santiago Torres each had two hits.  Kotowski homered and Pertuz had three RBIs.


Saturday : Yhoswar Garcia had three hits including a triple, he stole two bases.  Dakota Kotowski also had three hits, he posted two RBIs.  Pedro Martinez had two hits and two RBIs.


Pitchers :


Luis Gomez - three appearances - two saves - 0.00 ERA - three IP, four hits, one walk, one K


Recap :


Monday : Oswald Medina started and pitched three innings, one run, five hits, one walk, five strikeouts. Starlyn Castillo threw two scoreless innings, one hit, one walk, one strikeout. Josh Bortka pitched a scoreless frame, Yoniel Ramirez went two frames, one run, one hit, two walks, four strikeouts.  Luis Gomez posted his fourth save with a perfect ninth inning.


Tuesday :  Five pitchers were used in the contest, Nicoly Pina went one and two thirds scoreless in relief, two walks, three strikeouts.  Eric Garcia stranded two inherited runners and pitched one and one third innings.


Thursday : Five pitchers were used, Saul Teran threw three innings, one unearned run.


Friday Game One : Five pitchers were used, Chase Webster pitched two and one third scoreless innings.


Friday Game Two : Giuseppe Velasquez pitched four innings, one run, two hits, one walk and seven strikeouts.  Nathan Karaffa went three innings, no runs, one hit, one walk, one strikeout.


Saturday : Micah Ottenbreit returned to action, the twenty year old right hander pitched two scoreless innings, no hits, one walk, he got four ground outs (one a double play) and one fly out, faced just six batters.  I’ve watched him progress in his bullpens, the young man has very good stuff, it’s been a long road back from TJ surgery from April of 2022.  Great to see him back competing!   Daniel Mejia pitched four innings, one unearned run, one hit, two walks, three strikeouts.



Dominican Summer League :


Phillies Red : 3-2 for the week, 12-7 overall


Monday : 4-2 Win vs Cardinals

Tuesday : 6-4 Loss to Rays

Wednesday : 4-1 Win vs Angels

Thursday : 11-5 Loss to Angels

Tuesday : Jose Leanez, Eduardo Tait (double & triple) and Juan Villavicencio each had two hits. Jaeden Calderon doubled.


Wednesday : Brahian Silva and Jarol Martinez each had two hits.  Martinez and Jaeden Calderon each doubled, Victor Cardoza tripled.


Thursday :  Eduardo Tait had two hits (double and HR) and four RBIs.  Victor Cardoza had two hits.


Friday : Juan Villavicencio had three hits (single, double, triple).   Nolan Beltran, Eduardo Tait, Esterling Rodriquez, Manolfi Jiménez and Brahian Silva each had two hits.  Rodriquez had two doubles, Jiménez and Jose Leanez also doubled.


Saturday : The team had seven singles, no player had multiple hits nor extra base hits.


Pitchers :


Luis Alcala - two appearances - five and two thirds IP, no runs, four hits, one walk, seven K’s

Luis Gonzalez - five IP, no runs, four hits, one walk, three strikeouts

Monday : Juan Amarante went four and two third innings, two runs against. Luis Alcala pitched two and two third scoreless innings, three hits, no walks, four strikeouts.


Tuesday : Jeffrey German started and went five innings, two runs, one earned, four hits, one walk, three strikeouts.


Wednesday : Edwar Chirinos pitched three innings, one run, one hit, two walks and three strikeouts. Juan Melendez finished with one and one third scoreless frames.


Thursday :  Four pitchers were used, Ramon Reyes threw an inning and a third scoreless.


Friday : Three pitchers combined for the shutout, seventeen year old Luis Gonzalez went five innings, four hits, one walk, three strikeouts.   Eduardo Robles and Ezequiel Ventura each pitched two innings.


Saturday : Luis Alcala pitched three scoreless frames in relief, one hit, one walk, three strikeouts.



Phillies White : 5-0 for the week,15-5 overall

Thursday : The team was held to five singles, Starlyn Caba walked three times.


Friday : Darium Gutierrez doubled, the team had five hits.  Romel Mendez walked twice.


Saturday : The team had six hits, Yoangel Ramos and Darium Gutierrez doubled, Gutierrez and Angel Mata each had two RBIs.

Monday : Four pitchers were used in the game, Carlos Millan got the W going two and two third innings in relief, Javier Fuenmayor notched his fourth save by pitching the final inning and a third.


Tuesday : Danyony Pulido started and went four innings, no runs, one hit, one walk, five strikeouts.  John Sosa pitched two and two third innings, one unearned run.  Luis Avila got the win, one and two thirds scoreless, two hits.


Thursday : Maxwell Hernandez went five innings, one run, three hits, four walks and three strikeouts.  Kleyderve Andrade and Josbel Garcia each pitched two scoreless frames.


Friday : Alexis De La Cruz went three and one third scoreless, one hit, seven strikeouts.  Three relievers followed, Elicier Bata threw a perfect inning, one strikeout.


Saturday : Six pitchers combined for the shutout : Pedro Reyes,Luis Avila & Javier Fuenmayor (1 IP each) & Angel Liranzo, John Sosa & Carlos Millan ( 2 IP each)
