7/7/23 : Minor League Roundup

International League ( AAA ) -  Scranton Wilkes Barre 9 (7-2,41-42) Lehigh Valley 8 (4-6, 40-43) - 10 innings

Moosic, PA - PNC Field


Summary :


Jake Cave walked to lead off the first inning, he scored on a double by Drew Ellis.  Kody Clemens singled to score Ellis.


Aramis Garcia was hit by a pitch in the 5th, Scott Kingery walked.  Simon Muzziotti doubled to score Garcia.  Dustin Peterson doubled to score two runs.  Esteban Quiroz singled to score two more.


A single, wild pitch and single scored a run for SWB in the sixth inning.


SWB scored two runs in the 7th on two walks and two singles.


The RailRiders loaded the bases in the 8th inning on two hit batters and a walk, Michael Hermosillo then hit a grand slam.


The game went into extra innings tied at seven.


Scott Kingery doubled to score placed runner Weston Wilson in the top of the 10th.


Wilmer Difo hit a walk off two run home run with two outs and two strikes on him for the win for SWB in the bottom of the tenth.


On the Hill :


Bailey Falter was very good, five scoreless frames, three hits, one walk, three strikeouts.  Taylor Lehman retired the only batter he faced in the seventh inning and stranded two inherited runners.  Andrew Bellatti pitched a scoreless ninth inning.


At the Bat :


Simon Muzziotti and Scott Kingery each had two hits (single & double).  Drew Ellis and Dustin Peterson also doubled.

Bridgewater, NJ - TD Bank Ballpark


Summary :


Trey Sweeney homered for Somerset in the first inning.


Nick Podkul doubled in the third inning, he scored on a double by Carlos De La Cruz.  Johan Rojas doubled to score De La Cruz. Jhailyn Ortiz singled to score Rojas.


Carlos De La Cruz hit his 16th home run of the season in the ninth inning.


A fielding error, ground out and single scored a run for Somerset in the bottom of the ninth.


On the Hill :


David Parkinson went five innings, one run,four hits, five walks and four strikeouts. Keylan Killgore went one and two thirds scoreless,  two hits, one walk, two strikeouts.  Brett Schulze retired all four batters he faced, two strikeouts. Tyler McKay posted his sixth save by pitching the ninth inning, one unearned run, two hits, no walks and one strikeout.


At the Bat :


Carlos De La Cruz (double & HR), Nick Podkul and Casey Martin each had two hits.  Podkul and Johan Rojas doubled.

South Atlantic League ( High A ) - Jersey Shore 8 (6-7, 41-37) Hudson Valley 4 (6-7, 45-34)

Lakewood, NJ - ShoreTown Ballpark


Summary :


A two base error, stolen base and ground out scored a run for Hudson Valley in the first inning.


Nick Ward singled in the fourth inning and scored on a home run by Gabriel Rincones Jr.  Rixon Wingrove reached on an error and Hao Yu Lee was hit by a pitch, they both scored on a three run home run by Marcus Lee Sang.  Leandro Pineda then went back to back to plate another run!


Rixon Wingrove homered in the sixth inning.


Hudson Valley scored three in the seventh inning, two on a home run by Agustin Ramirez.


Leandro Pineda doubled in the 8th inning and scored on an RBI double by Anthony Quirion.


On the Hill :


Rafael Marcano was very good, five innings, one unearned run, five hits, one walk and four strikeouts.  Konnor Ash pitched one and a third scoreless innings.  Matt Russell closed it with a perfect ninth inning.


At the Bat :


Leandro Pineda had two hits, he and Anthony Quirion doubled.  Four home runs - Gabriel Rincones Jr, Rixon Wingrove, Marcus Lee Sang and Leandro Pineda.



Florida State League ( Low A )  Clearwater 3 (9-4,53-25) Palm Beach 2 (3-10, 40-38)

Clearwater, FL - BayCare Ballpark


Summary :


Three singles and a wild pitch scored two first inning runs for Palm Beach.


Cole Moore hit a two run home run in the bottom of the second inning.


Emaarion Boyd singled in the ninth inning, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a walk off single by Otto Kemp!


On the Hill :


Estibenzon Jiménez went four innings, two runs, five hits, no walks, two strikeouts.  Noah Song pitched a scoreless inning, one hit, two walks, one strikeout - fastball averaged 91 mph, topped at 92, also threw a slider and curve.  Daniel Harper pitched two scoreless innings, one hit, two walks and one strikeout.  Jonh Henriquez pitched two perfect innings with two strikeouts and posting his league leading tenth win, he’s now 10-0.


At the Bat :


Felix Reyes doubled, Cole Moore hit a two run home run.

Tigers 14 (14-10) Phillies 8 (13-11)

Summary :


The Tigers scored three in the first inning on two hit batters, a single and two doubles.


Dakota Kotowski homered to lead off the bottom of the fourth, his ninth of the season.  Marco Soto singled and Leonardo Rondon hit his first stateside home run to score him.


A single, wild pitch and throwing error scored a run for the Tigers in the sixth inning.


Diego Gonzales walked to lead off the bottom of the sixth, Gustavo Sosa singled to advance him to second base.  Raylin Heredia singled to score a run.  Yhoswar Garcia singled to score another.


The Tigers scored five in the seventh, on four walks, a single, double and throwing error.


Gustavo Sosa hit a three run home run in the bottom of the seventh.


Reylin Perez homered for the Tigers in the eighth inning.  They scored four unearned runs in the ninth inning on a walk, double, fielding error and three run home run by Jose Reina.


On the Hill :


Seven pitchers were used in the contest, Luis Alcala went one and two thirds scoreless and Drew Garrett pitched a scoreless inning, no hits,one walk, one strikeout.


At the Bat :


Gustavo Sosa had three hits (two singles & HR) and a walk, he scored twice and posted three RBIs.  Raylin Heredia, Yhoswar Garcia, Marco Soto and Leonardo Rondon each had two hits. Kendall Simmons doubled.  Dakota Kotowski and Leonardo Rondon each homered.




Dominican Summer League :


Phillies Red 7 (14-9) Mariners 6 (12-12)- seven innings

@ Mariners Training Complex


Summary :


The Phillies score twice in the first inning as they loaded the bases with three singles (Renair Manrique, Nolan Beltran & Eduardo Tait), a ground out and throwing error allowed Manrique and Beltran to score.


The Mariners scored a run in the second on a single, walk, sac bunt and ground out.


Alirio Ferrebus walked to lead off the seventh, Jose Leanez singled and Renair Manrique walked to load the bases.  Juan Villavicencio was hit by a pitch to score a run.  Eduardo Tait singled to score another, Manolfi Jiménez hit a sac fly to plate the third run of the inning.  Jaeden Calderon was hit by a pitch to reload the bases, Brahian Silva walked to score a run and Arquedion Muller was hit by a pitch to score another.


The Mariners matched the Phillies five spot in the bottom of the seventh on three walks, a single, double and fielders choice.


On the Hill :


Luis Gonzalez started and went five innings, one run, five hits, two walks and four strikeouts.


At the Bat :


Eduardo Tait had two hits, the team had seven, no extra base hits.



Phillies White 6 (17-6) Giants Black 1 (15-8) - seven inning NO HITTER!

Summary :


The Giants scored a run in the third on a walk, two stolen bases and a throwing error.


Darium Gutierrez doubled in the bottom of the second, he scored on a single by Starlyn Caba.


The Phillies scored five runs in the fifth inning.  Darium Gutierrez and Yhoan Escalona walked, Starlyn Caba singled to score Gutierrez. Romel Mendez singled to score Escalona. Yemil Rosario singled to score Caba.  Jarol Martinez doubled to score two runs.


On the Hill :


Maxwell Hernandez went five innings, one unearned run, three walks and three strikeouts.  Cristian Diaz finished the no-hitter going two innings, one walk, five strikeouts.


At the Bat :


Starlyn Caba and Romel Mendez each had two hits.  Darium Gutierrez, Jarol Martinez & Guillermo Rosario each doubled.

Lehigh Valley : RHP Drew Hutchison placed on the Development List, OF Jordan Qsar reinstated from the Development List


Reading : RHP Mick Abel reinstated from the Development List and placed on the Temporarily Inactive List (participating in the All-Star Futures Game)

Player Development Center :


Watched RH Christian McGowan throw an up-down two inning live BP today, had a really good slider along with velocity and movement on that pitch and his fastball.  Looks close to getting into game action, another big arm coming back into the mix 👀.
