8/1/23 : Minor League Roundup


International League ( AAA ) -  Lehigh Valley 10 (17-10, 53-47)  Buffalo 7 (17-10, 51-51)

Allentown, PA - Coca-Cola Park


Summary :


Buffalo plated two in the third inning on two singles and a double.   They scored four runs in the 6th inning on three walks, two singles and a fielding error.


Kody Clemens singled in the 6th inning for LHV’s first hit of the game, Darick Hall singled.  Aramis Garcia hit a three run home run.  Simon Muzziotti and Drew Ellis singled, Jordan Qsar was hit by a pitch, Scott Kingery hit a grand slam!  Esteban Quiroz doubled and scored on a home run by Kody Clemens - nine run inning after being no hit thru the first five frames 😳.


Simon Muzziotti doubled in the seventh inning and later scored on a sac fly by Drew Ellis.


Buffalo plated one run in the ninth on an error, two walks and a single. A 6-3 double play with Darick Hall digging out a low throw ended the game.


On the Hill :


Shaun Anderson pitched four innings, two runs, four hits, two walks, three strikeouts.  Brett Schulze pitched one and two third innings, three unearned runs, one hit, three walks, three strikeouts.  Noah Skirrow pitched a perfect frame, two strikeouts. Taylor Lehman pitched an inning, no runs, no hits, two walks, one strikeout. Tyler McKay finished, one inning, one unearned run, one hit, two walks.


At the Bat :


Scott Kingery hit a grand slam home run.  Kody Clemens and Simon Muzziotti each had two hits, Clemens homered, scored twice and had two RBIs.  Muzziotti doubled. Esteban Quiroz doubled and Aramis Garcia homered and posted three RBIs.

Hartford, CT - Dunkin’ Park


Summary :


Carlos De La Cruz reached on an error in the first inning and scored on a double by Oliver Dunn.


Hartford scored a run in the bottom of the first on an error, stolen base and single.


Baron Radcliff singled in the second, he went to third on a double by Casey Martin.  Max McDowell singled to score them both.


Kyle Datres hit a two run home run for Hartford in the third inning.


Reading loaded the bases in the 4th inning as Max McDowell singled, Pedro Martinez walked and Matt Kroon was hit by a pitch. Carlos De La Cruz singled to score two.  Oliver Dunn hit a three run home run.


A walk, fielding error and a couple of ground outs scored a Reading run in the 5th inning.


Hunter Goodman homered for Hartford in the bottom of the fifth.


On the Hill :


Josh Hendrickson pitched five innings, four runs - three earned, six hits, one walk, eight strikeouts.  Max Kuhns pitched an inning, no runs, one hit, no walks, one strikeout.  Andrew Baker dominated, perfect inning with three strikeouts. Dominic Pipkin tossed a scoreless frame, one hit, one strikeout. Tommy McCollum closed it out with a perfect ninth inning, one strikeout.


At the Bat :


Oliver Dunn had three hits (single, double & HR) and four RBIs.  Max McDowell had two knocks.  Casey Martin had two hits (single and double).    Carlos De La Cruz singled, scored twice and had three RBIs.



South Atlantic League ( High A ) - Jersey Shore 6 (16-15, 51-45) Brooklyn 3 (20-11, 48-48)

Lakewood, NJ - ShoreTown Ballpark


Summary :


Nick Ward and Marcus Lee Sang singled in the first inning, they scored on a double by Gabriel Rincones Jr.


Brooklyn scored three runs in the fifth inning on a walk, single, double and single.


Two fielding errors and a fielders choice put two BlueClaw runners on base in the 6th inning, Leandro Pineda singled to score a run.  Andrick Nava and Wilfredo Flores each singled to score two more.  Another fielding error plated the fourth run of the inning.


On the Hill :


Gabriel Cotto went five innings, three runs, six hits, five walks, three strikeouts.  Konnor Ash threw two scoreless frames, no hits, one walk, five strikeouts.  Jason Ruffcorn pitched a scoreless 8th inning, one walk.  Andrew Walling finished by striking out the side in a perfect ninth inning.


At the Bat :


Nick Ward, Leandro Pineda and Andrick Nava each had two hits.  Gabriel Rincones Jr doubled and had two RBIs.

Summary :


A bases loaded walk scored a Lakeland run in the second inning.


Justin Crawford walked in the third inning, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Felix Reyes.


Four walks plated a run for Lakeland in the sixth inning.  Another run scored on a ground out.   


Lakeland scored a run in the seventh on a walk, stolen base and single.


William Bergolla singled in the seventh and scored on a double by Justin Crawford.


Lakeland scored a run in the ninth on two singles, a stolen base and wild pitch.


Cade Fergus and William Bergolla singled in the ninth and scored on a double by Justin Crawford.


On the Hill :


Guissepe Velasquez pitched five innings, one run, one hit, three walks and seven strikeouts.  Nathan Karaffa stranded two of three inherited base runners, he pitched one and two third innings, one run, one hit, two walks, one strikeout.  Daniel Harper pitched one and two third innings, one run, four hits, two walks and three strikeouts.   Josh Bortka retired the only batter he faced.


At the Bat :


Justin Crawford had three hits including two doubles. William Bergolla hit two singles.



Florida Complex League


Phillies (22-18) Yankees (24-15) - Doubleheader

@ Clearwater, FL


Game One : Yankees 2 Phillies 1 - eight innings


Summary :


The Yankees scored a run in the fourth inning on a home run by Cole Gabrielson.


Trent Farquhar doubled in the 5th inning, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on another wild pitch.


The game went into extra innings tied at one apiece.


In the 8th inning the Yankees placed runner stole third base and scored on a throwing error.


On the Hill :


Jaydenn Estanista started and pitched one inning, no runs or hits, one walk, two strikeouts.  Jose Peña Jr had a strong outing, four innings, one run, four hits, one walk, three strikeouts. Javier Fuenmayor went two and two thirds, one unearned run, one hit, four walks, three strikeouts.  Nicoly Pina pitched one third of an inning.


At the Bat :


Trent Farquhar had two hits (single & double) as did Devin Saltiban and Santiago Torres (two singles each).   Saltiban and Pierce Bennett produced their first pro hits in the game.



Game Two : Phillies 4 Yankees 3


Summary :


The Yankees scored a first inning run on two singles and a double.  They scored a second inning run on a single and double.


Jehisbert Sevilla doubled in the 5th inning, Albert Rodriquez walked.  Leonardo Rondon scored them both with a triple. Dakota Kotowski hit a ground rule double (ball bounced over right center field fence) to score Rondon.  Jorge Mendez walked. Yemal Flores singled to score Kotowski.


The Yankees scored a run in the seventh on two doubles.


On the Hill :


Ezequiel Ventura went four innings, two runs, five hits, no walks, three strikeouts.  Drew Garrett impressed with a perfect inning, struck out the side. Luis Gomez pitched the final two innings, one run, three hits, two walks, one strikeout.


At the Bat :


Leonardo Rondon had three hits (two singles and a triple).  Jehisbert Sevilla and Dakota Kotowski doubled.


Defensive Gem :


Catcher Kehden Hettiger in his first game as a pro gunned down a would be base stealer at second base, showed a big arm on the throw.



Dominican Summer League :


Phillies Red 6 (22-18) Twins 2 (9-29) - seven innings

@ Phillies Training Complex


Summary :


Juan Villavicencio singled in the first inning and scored on a double by Eduardo Tait.  Manolfi Jimenez singled to advance Tait to third base, he then scored on a ground out by Jaeden Calderon.


Dervin Andrade singled in the second inning, Victor Cardoza reached base on an error. Eduardo Tait singled to score two runs. Tait advanced to third on a balk and scored on a wild pitch.


Andres Hernandez singled in the sixth inning, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Juan Villavicencio.


The Twins scored twice in the seventh on a walk, single and double.


On the Hill :


Four pitchers were used, Eduardo Robles went five innings, no runs, two hits, one walk.


At the Bat :


Juan Villavicencio and Eduardo Tait each had two hits, Tait doubled.



Phillies White 10 (32-8) Nationals 8 (9-31)

@ Nationals Training Complex


Summary :


The Nationals scored a first inning run on a double and single.  They scored twice in the second on a walk, single, wild pitch and single.


Starlyn Caba and Jerffson Peña singled in the third inning, two groundouts pushed Caba across the dish.


Aroon Escobar walked, Angel Mata singled and Yemil Rosario walked to load the bases in the 7th inning. Guillermo Rosario and Jose Marchan each walked to score a run. A wild pitch scored another run.  Two more walks scored another run.


Aroon Escobar was hit by a pitch in the 8th inning, went to second on a ground out and scored on a single by Yemil Rosario.


The Nationals scored twice in the bottom of the 8th on a walk and three singles.


Four walks scored a run for the Phillies in the ninth.  Angel Mata doubled to score three more.


The Nationals scored three in the bottom of the ninth including a two run home run by Carlos Taberas.


On the Hill :


Four pitchers were used, Josbel Garcia went four innings, two runs, six hits, one walk, two strikeouts.


At the Bat :


Angel Mata, Jerffson Peña and Yoangel Ramos each had two hits.  Mata doubled and posted four RBIs.



System Transactions :


Reading : Transferred RHP’s Blake Brown and Andrew Painter from the 60-day IL to the Full-Season IL.


Jersey Shore : IF Hao-Yu Lee has been traded to the Detroit Tigers for Michael Lorenzen.  IF Freylin MInyety has been reinstated from the Development List.  IF Uziel Viloria has retired. 


Clearwater : INF Matt Alifano has been released (retroactive to 7/30).  Transferred INF Ty Penner from the FCL Phillies.  C Caleb Ricketts’ minor league rehab assignment (Jersey Shore, 7-day IL) transferred from the FCL Phillies.


FCL Phillies : Added RHP Jaydenn Estanista (Low-A Clearwater 60-day IL) beginning a minor league rehab assignmentActivated RHP Cam Brown, RHP Ethan Chenault, RHP Jake Eddington, RHP Marty Gair, RHP George Klassen, RHP Hunter Loyd, RHP Luke Russo, RHP Casey Steward, C Kehden Hettiger.  LHP Christopher Soriano transferred to the 60-day IL.


Player Development Center Training - Carpenter Complex :


Multiple new pitchers (draftees and un-drafted free agent signees) threw side sessions today along with hurlers working in the rehab group.  Good to see Damon Jones continuing to make progress.
