Orioles 10 Phillies 9 - Ten Innings
Jay Bruce led off the third inning by reaching on a two base error by Orioles first baseman Chris Davis. He went to third on a groundout. Adam Haseley walked on four pitches. Andrew McCutchen shot a single to right center field scoring Bruce and Haseley scored as well all the way from first base !
Jay Bruce smoked a long home run into the right center field second deck to lead off the fifth inning.
Anthony Santander doubled to lead off the sixth for Baltimore. He scored on a single by Renato Nunez. Nunez scored on a double by Rio Ruiz. Dwight Smith Jr singled to score Ruiz. Adam Morgan relieved Zack Wheeler with a runner on first and two outs ... he struck out Davis to end the inning.
Zack Wheeler went 5 2/3 innings ... 3 R, 8 H, 1 BB, 2 K’s ... 84 pitches - 57 strikes.
The Phillies put two runners on in the bottom of the sixth ( Harper single, Realmuto walk ) against Alex Cobb ... Baltimore went to the pen - nasty lefty Tanner Scott ... with two outs he walked Jean Segura to load the bases. Jay Bruce grounded out to end the inning.
Alex Cobb went 5 1/3 for the Orioles ... 3 R - 2 earned, 3 H, 2 BB, 2 K’s - 71 pitches - 49 strikes.
Pat Valaika singled to lead off the seventh inning against Tommy Hunter. Hanser Alberto doubled to score him. Anthony Santander singled to score Alberto.
With two outs in the top of the eighth inning the Orioles Andrew Velazquez attempted to steal home from third base on a throw back to the pitcher from the catcher ... he was in as a pinch runner for Dwight Smith Jr who had doubled. Jose Alvarez flipped high to JT Realmuto who leaped up high but came down in time to apply the tag for the out. A precarious scoreless inning tonight for Alvarez.
Bryce Harper went yard to left field to score Rhys Hoskins ( singled ) ahead of him in the bottom of the eighth inning against hard throwing Miguel Castro and tie the score.
With two outs Jean Segura hit a solo home run to put the Phillies ahead !
Baltimore loaded the bases against Hector Neris in the ninth inning with one out on a double and two walks. Renato Nunez singled to left field to tie the game. Neris struck out the next hitter and then got a pop up in the middle of the infield that the Phillies botched ... Segura called off Hoskins and flat out missed it ... two runs scored. Unbelievable 🤦♂️.
With two outs in the ninth inning Rhys Hoskins singled ... Bryce Harper and JT Realmuto walked to load the bases. Didi Gregorius then singled to plate two to tie the game once again ! Jean Segura then struck out ... game went extra innings.
In the top of the tenth Austin Hays hit a line drive to center field against Deolis Guerra that Roman Quinn tried to make a diving catch on and missed ... it went to the fence and Hays circled for a two run inside the park home run scoring the placed extra innings runner ahead of him.
Jay Bruce singled to lead off the bottom of the tenth which scored the placed runner ( Jean Segura ). With one out Phil Gosselin singled. A cross up wild pitch moved both Bruce and Gosselin up a base. Quinn grounded out with the infield up for the second out. Hoskins grounded out to end the game.
Record is now 5-7

Harper and Hoskins each had two hits for the Phillies ... Bruce had three hits including a triple and his fifth inning home run.
