8/13/23 : Week Nineteen Minor League Review (8/7 to 8/13)

The seven teams went 24-16 for the week. They are a cumulative 325-249 for a winning percentage of .566. The Phillies seven affiliates have the second highest collective 2023 minor league winning percentage for all thirty organizations trailing only the Dodgers (Mariners are third,Yankees fourth, Rockies fifth).  The four affiliates participating in split seasons are 93-67 (.581) in the second half.

It was a big week for multi home run games and grand slams - Kody Clemens hit three taters in a 17-6 route for Lehigh Valley on Thursday, Darick Hall had two home runs in that game. Nick Ward hit two home runs for Reading in their game on Thursday and Dakota Kotowski hit two in Saturday’s game for the FCL Phillies.  Gabriel Rincones Jr hit two in one game (suspended game due to rain - played over two days) and three in one day on Sunday.  Kody Clemens, Jordan Viars (Clearwater) and Gavin Tonkel (FCL Phillies) each hit grand slams.

Kody Clemens - 9 for 26 (.346) with seven runs scored, two doubles, triple, four home runs, ten RBIs, seven walks, .471 OBP and Darick Hall - 11 for 29 (.379) with six runs scored, double, four home runs, nine RBIs, four walks, .455 OBP had huge weeks for Lehigh Valley as the team exploded for 56 runs in six games played.

Reading got another strong pitching performance from David Parkinson - six innings, no runs, four hits, one walk, seven strikeouts and their leadoff tandem of Madison Stokes and Nick Ward went a collective 8 for 22 (.363) with a double, triple, two home runs and ten walks for an OBP of .559 in 34 plate appearances - that’s getting on base eh😎.

Jersey Shore went 5-1 and got outstanding pitching from eleven hurlers -see below for details. Gabriel Rincones Jr  had a big second half of the week and went 6 for 18 (.333) overall with a double, three home runs and six RBIs, five walks, .478 OBP.

Clearwater’s Justin Crawford went 8 for 15 (.533) with a double, home run, six RBIs, two walks, two stolen bases, .556 OBP.

The DSL Phillies White squad continued to roll and we had the rare feat of a pitcher throwing a nine inning complete game … over two different days 😳 - DSL Phillies White hurler Maxwell Hernandez completed what he started on 8/4/23, that day he pitched five innings before rain forced a suspension of the contest.  On Friday of this past week he pitched the final four innings, a 2-1 win!  His final line for the game - nine innings, one run, four hits, four walks and seven strikeouts.
